jennbickerstaff thank you so much!!
So gorgeous!...... and, you make it look easy! I have been trying to overcome my fear ofwatercolor.....I don't know why it intimidates me so!
It is intimidating as it has a mind of its own!! However, try to approach it from a play standpoint and just have fun with it and I'll bet you'll be surprised at how quickly you loosen up!
Hi Karen. Could you tell me what drawing tools you used for this . Especially the pencil and the black marker. Love all you do. Can't get enough. Thanks for being you.
Hi Janet, thanks so much for watching this. I am going to link you up with my favorite supplies:

Hi Karen, I can't get enough of your tutorials. I just tried this morning with very cheap watercolors and I really love it. If I do this lesson over again on a 3ftx4ft.canvas , how large should I draw the girl? I can't wait to get started. Looking forward to your reply. How you inspire me! Thank you.
Hi there!! So awesome to have you here!! If that's the size of your canvas, the face should almost fill up the whole thing! Dont know the dimensions but definitely BIG, make sure to fill up the whole space with her or it will look funny. Be bold! You got this!
@@KarenCampbellArtist That makes sense! Oh boy! Can I draw that big, lol...but I will give it a go. Thanks again, Karen. Keep you posted!
Just found this today. I'm trying to teach myself to watercolor and it has been quite challenging. But I like the whimsical images because i feel like it is more 'forgiving'. Are you OK if I try to draw and color this image myself...may not be as good as your's but I like this painting very much.
What size paper did you use for this drawing?
Thank you for sharing. Some day, maybe I can just play and have something come out as well as you have done here!
Barb!!! Yes, you are so so sweet to ask, please feel free to borrow or copy this image :) I used 9 x 12 coldpress watercolor paper. Practice and just have fun!!! It will come!
Thank you soooooo much!
Love it you are very good please share more thank you
Thanks Cindy, I sure will! Tons and tons more... Especially when my kids return to school this fall :)
so..pretty....
If you were using a little more traditional colors on the face what would you drop in first? Then second and so on ?
Bridgette Dunagan that is such a simple question, I wish I had a simple answer for you!! Probably the easiest way would be to go to your local.art store and look at watercolor colors. If.you feel more.comfortable with skin tones they are available I just rarely use them!! I love purples and blues for shadows and Operah pink for cheeks and whatever colors I'm in the mood for ❤. If you are serious about dabbling in watercolors I do offer a introductory course (called Wondrous Watercolors) at AwesomeArtSchool.com. It is 12 or so hours of real time instruction (from scratch!) And includes 4 different face projects (in addition to flowers, sea themed, whales and more!). Check it out if you want a through and FUN on line class!
Heel gaaf ook op deze manier
Love your work, what du u use to out line her eyes in black? Is it ink or acrylic paint?
Thanks and great question, I'm sorry I didn't caption that! I used black India ink, straight from the bottle.
what number brush did u use for the eyes?
Rachel Z all the detail work was done with a fine Pentel waterbrush filled with ink.

I've watched this video 3 times and I have another question...how were you able to watercolor over your pencil drawing without the pencil lines smearing? I tried it on one of my drawings and the lines smeared badly. So when I noticed it, I tried going over the lines with watercolor pencils and that helped, but I still was not happy with the results. :(
Barb, great question. It may have something to do with the fact that I used a pretty hard and thin graphite, just 0.03 which I sure try skinny. I do think had a used a Softer lead it may have smudged as yes, graphite is water soluble. Try going for a hard lead, say a 2H - 6H and seeing of that helps!! I think it should! Stay away from the soft leads (2B and up to 8B). Let me know how it goes!
Thank you again Karen! I will definitely try the harder leads. And by the way, I love your book. I have learned so much about the basics of drawing. I've drawn several faces now and love them...so much so, that I'm afraid to watercolor them in...afraid I'll mess them up.
Soooooo, now I think you should do a book all about the principles of pencil drawings and shadows. : /
+Barb Guinan duly noted, I just might!!! I'm so glad you thought my book was helpful! I think you should keep drawing your faces and be brave and apply some watercolors! If you "mess them up" draw some more :)
how can I get your book
Hi Connie! Are you asking about my art books or my sketchbook? All of my art books and recommended supplies are available on amazon! Here is my affiliate link! Please let me know if you have any more questions! Happy to help! www.amazon.com/shop/karencampbellartist
what type of eraser are you using, and the pencil, too????
Beverley Clark White I just use a mechanical pencil with. 5 ml lead typically and the eraser I CANNOT live without is called the Vanishing Eraser and I buy it at Jerry's Artarama.
thanks!
