It's important to us that he posted something where he didn't do so well. It's dishonest to pretend it always works out in dialogue. This is where it gets strange for believers. They interpret any resistance as an attack. It's OK! to be wrecked in an argument. Part of rational engagement. Everything is gonna be aight. Chill.
I was abused all through childhood starting at age 3. I turned to drugs and alcohol and men. I became so depressed and suicidal. I self mutilated. I would watch myself cut and not want to be doing it. I was out of control and demonized. I saw dark figures my whole life and was tormented by them. I prayed and believed in God and was still experiencing a dark world. I was on max doses of antidepressants and antipsychotics. Therapists told me they couldnt help me and gave up on me. One day i cried out to God "why arent you protecting me!?" And an image of Jesus came to my mind. I had previously preached He was just a "good man" but called myself a "Christian". I knew in that moment Jesus was who He said He was. I accepted Him and asked Him to come into my heart and forgive me for all my sins which weighed my heart down. And i felt all the darkness leave. It was tangible. I felt love and light for the first time in my life. Its like you don't realize how dirty you were until you get clean. I wasnt depressed anymore. I stopped medication cold turkey without side effects (NOT RECOMMENDING). But my depression was spiritual and demonic. Jesus set me free from all of it.
You cannot prove God and you cant disprove God. But you cant dismiss anyone's testimony or experiences. People need to experience the Living God and they have to want to. Its sad that people grow up in the church with religion and not relationship and it's not demonstrated to them. I hear God speak to my heart and in many other ways. But i had to learn how to recognize his voice. We need to teach others how to do it and demonstrate His power because He lives in us. I've experienced healing and deliverance and seen other experience it through prayers. I have a good marriage, 3 beautiful children, and I am well. Life is not easy by any means but I have The Comforter and His Word and it carries me through. And like a wall that needs maintenance, in continuously growing and getting healthy. Without Jesus, I was dying spiritually and physically. With Him, I am living, healing, and loving and experiencing love on deeper levels. There's nothing that can fulfill us like Him. You'll be lonely and empty even surrounded by people if youre without Him. We get to choose Him. If you find yourself angry with me and my testimony its because there are spirits in you that are being stirred up that are hostile to the Truth and it contradicts what you believe to be true and that's uncomfortable. You cant be too smart/intelligent to believe in God. That's a spirit of pride. Let eyes be opened here, ears be opened and hearts softened. Matt and Ray be blessed in name of Jesus.

Man. Ray really knows the word well. Every time Matt tried to quote scripture and got it wrong it made me think. “My people are destroyed for their lack of knowledge”. I pray he comes to know the Lord for real.

@David Gefrovich Yeah, I didn't take that comment as you telling me that it was okay to sin after salvation, but more so that it is the byproduct of our salvation that we would turn from sin and pursue righteousness in Christ. @@deemarie9945 Nah, Ray talks a lot about how no one can save themselves with their own goodness (aka "flapping your arms while falling from a plane"). It's literally what he says to every person he ever witnesses to: "Don't trust your own goodness, trust Jesus". He says that he himself is a wretched sinner in need of a Saviour, and that he does good in gratitude towards God for what God did for him, not what he did for God. I don't see how that is a work-based theology.

Before coming to Christ by faith I was an intellectual atheist and no born again Christian will get across me because I will ask them questions that will question their own faith.
Dee Marie : Ray doesn’t believe that his works save him.
My genetics professor once stated to our class of pre-med students "There is no such thing as PROOF in science." Having based my entire education on science, I was stunned by this statement.
He went on to explain. "Because there are an infinite number of facts relative to any situation, no matter how much information we have some of the facts will be missing. This means that the scientific method will produce erroneous results. Good and usable laws, but never complete proof."
After contemplating this statement, I realized that both science and Christian beliefs are based on FAITH.
Later, as I began to observe the ineffable level of complexity and organization of both the universe AND even the sub-atomic structure of physics (which BTW fully contradict the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics) ... I concluded that there must be an intelligent Creator Beyond Time & Space. It physiological to believe that sophisticated organization can come out of Chaos.
I admit, I can't PROVE God to you. But I'm confident you will concur that you can't DISPROVE God to me either.
PROOF is impossible with man. For we are not infinite, and cannot know all the facts.
Yet we can conceive of infinity, and perceive the impossibility of ORDER from CHAOS.
Choose wisely where to put your FAITH. I believe it DICTATES your eternity.
Trust in Jesus.

Dr. Chuck Missler is a genius, literally, and if anyone can provide you with an overwhelming willmeng abundance of scientific EVIDENCE that God exists, and that Jesus Christ is who the Bible says he is, it is him. I am confident that the scientific and logistical evidence he provides you will pierce, if not shatter your Atheism.

I always really liked when Ray spoke of intelligent design. Like how mankind can’t create a grain of sand yet it is also infinitely more complex than anything mankind has ever created, yet if we see what mankind has created we do not doubt that there was an intelligence behind the design. It had a creator.

Are you sure it’s 100% because what can be claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence! Also It’s really not about winning as theists are genuinely concerned and worried about the attempt to ground morality/values in the materialistic paradigm. It just can’t be done and has the potential to do harm as it is a contradiction in terms. You can’t ground the qualitative subjective experience of reality such as morals and ethics in the quantitative language of science or to be more specific the materialistic paradigm it just becomes utilitarianism rebranded and we don’t want Peter Singer taking us down that road again. It would be without meaning and you would reach an absurdity like the logical positivists did when they attempted to refute metaphysical concepts as it ironically undermined important aspects of science itself. Religious rituals, customs and traditions can come across as strange and weird but the rituals and language are not that dissimilar to Buddhism in their mystical nature but Buddhism is considered quite fashionable and cool for the secular traveller. One hundred thousand Christians are still dying every year because of religious persecution due to hateful propaganda. You only have to look at all the atheist regimes such as the Congo for evidence. Equally, Literally tens of millions of lives were lost in places like Russia due to Stalin’s anti religious policies. The secular world seems to be completely oblivious.

Because there is no evidence for the Christian god outside biblical text, it is reasonable to conclude that the Christian god only exists as a concept in the Bible.
Therefore, Christianity isn’t belief in god it is belief in the Bible.

Someone explained to me, "before your kids are born, you know they're going to sin/misbehave, but we still want them & love them unconditionally.
What exactly is your question? Just because my kids will sin doesn't mean that I don't want them to live. If they live with Jesus they will have a great life while walking with Him.

Nick Boismenu People go to hell because of their sin, God is a God of justice, He can’t let sin go unpunished, it’s not fair if God let’s murderers and rapists go to heaven just because, and it’s not fair if He let’s us go to heaven even though we’ve sinned against Him, we’ve all lied, stolen, blasphemed Him name, disobeyed our parents, etc. and Heaven is a completely pure place where no sin is allowed, but God didn’t want us to go to hell, so He sent His Son down to earth to die for all our sins, so we don’t have to go to hell where we deserve to go, but we can accept that free gift by repenting, turning away from our sin and trusting in Jesus Christ who died for us. It’s our choice to choose Jesus or to go our own way that leads to destruction

Matt is wearing different color shirts, the video is pieced together from multiple debates. That is not the only video where Ray misrepresents debates to make others look like they are behaving irrationally, only for not believing in this religion out of the thousands that exist here.
One is from the actual debate and one is from the debate review Matt did. I don’t see the big deal.

The only person who is a master of misrepresentation here is Matt Dilahunty. He’s famous for using rhetoric, ambiguity, cheap shots and his great memory to misrepresent and demonise moderate religious believers and his opponents during debates. “Only for not believing in” atheism and for believing instead in the value and validity of freedom of religious expression. Selling certainty to materialists and atheists by promoting religious stereotypes is a precious commodity and Matt makes a six figure sum running this divisive cynical business. He even presents an atheist TV show that indirectly promotes intolerance, bigotry and ignorance. Even atheists can’t bear to watch or stomach his programs. Atheism is supposed to be just an harmless “non belief” in God or gods but it has clearly evolved into a highly sophisticated, propagandised, dogmatic, ideological quasi religion. And it’s absolute claims to “truth” whilst ironic are an obvious threat to freedom of religious expression without being demonised including a threat to our basic human rights.

Ray didn’t hesitate for a second here and Matts expression was priceless. Ray responded brilliantly to Matts cynical, opportunistic and dishonest use of the horrific experiences of a child in the Nazi death camps. It was an appalling rhetorical question and appeal to emotion “would you agree that’s a good thing”. ? Nevertheless, this was like water off a ducks back to Ray as he’s come across this kind of pretence, rhetoric and feigned compassion and empathy to score points before. Matts followers who are addicted to engaging in this kind of sophistry, arrogance and intellectual blood sports normally flood the comments section at this point with hateful comments and claims that Matt won. Even if Matt did win using cheap shots, sophistry and the tragic suffering and death of a child what exactly did he win. ?
What’s sad is that Matt is actually trying to undermine the only thing that helped Anne Frank cope with the evil Nazi death camps. Her belief in the qualitative subjective experience of reality such as love, altruism, bravery, beauty, morals, ethics, meaning and purpose, that is the belief in the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness/the human spirit/theism/the prime mover/. This was the only hope and consolation that Anne Frank had left. The belief in “that of which nothing greater can be conceived.” (Love) (Anselmo d'Aosta).
These heart rending quotes from Anne Frank speak volumes regarding her faith and respect for other people’s metaphysical beliefs and her belief that there is goodness love and a divine spark in all of us what ever our religion......

Ray is doing what he is called to do. He knows that he will have all types of obstacles in his way. I have watched some of his other videos, and he has confortations with all types of people, even one guy tried to spit on him, two times. His spirit is so genuinely sweet and kind, and it just boggles my mind, how if someone is coming at you with no hate or anger, how can some people, be so hateful towards them. Less we forget Jesus had trials too.

As an agnostic that hasn't counted out Christianity completely I feel that Ray Comfort is in general a relatively nice person. That being said I find it disgraceful the way he and so many other Christians edit their videos to make non-believers look bad. If you don't have honesty you have nothing. Guys like Ray are the reason young people are leaving the church. If Christians have to edit videos and disable comments they've already lost the battle. There's no logical reason why Ray Comfort can't leave the debate in its original format unless he is willingly trying to deceive people.

I'm a Christian and I'm disappointed in ray for not being able to answer the questions, I'm able to answer all of them and you know how many people probably turned away from God cuz of this interview
Can you answer them then? I'm an agnostic atheist and always have been since I was a child and recently I've been questioning atheism which I think most people should challenge the beliefs they grew up with and if your answers make logical sense and stand up to scrutiny then I'll be convinced.

You're missing the point. A soul is not won by winning a debate. Read the gospel again. Show me 1 passage of scripture where Jesus or the apostles converted a soul with a debate. The gospel is the power of GOD unto salvation. Preach the gospel and let GOD do the rest. Ravy Zacharias is a perfect example of this. Endless debating does nothing.

It is not a good work to try and earn the salvation. We do good works because we are saved. Not to become saved. If we have not good works, we need to ask if we were really saved to start with. Repentance (changing mind to turn away from sin) is not a work anymore than believing is a work. Repentance is what allows a person to get close to the blood of Jesus because before, sin was pushing it away. Baptism is how we actually access that blood and through repentance, Jesus can blot out our sin because we are not constantly doing the devil's work, but his. Repentance is what allows us to stop the devil's deeds. Jesus said sinners are of their father, the devil. His offspring cannot go on sinning because they have God's seed.

As a Christian, I do believe that Matt was making good points and the video and the editing by Living Waters made me uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I still will be a Christian because as I was sitting alone in my car today, I asked myself if there was another good thing to live for. I tried to find pleasure in things, I tried to pursue something of value in this life. But I came to the conclusion that there is nothing of true value in this world that can satisfy like Jesus satisfies my soul. In the apostle Paul's letter to the church in Philippians he writes, "I press on to take hold of that which Christ Jesus took hold of me." Christ Jesus took hold of me. I don't know how any Atheist can find something of value in the world that has any lasting significance.

The people who lived in biblical times who saw what Jesus did or said wrote down their experiences yet most will say “ I’m not convinced, I need to see it”. People will have faith in something some so menial yet when it comes to their life and salvation people need to “see it”.

Well when compared to other people in history, the evidence for Jesus Christ, his life, crucifixion and resurrection is unbelievable! It’s a historical jackpot how early everything’s been written on top of how much was written on top of non believers who also wrote about Jesus, on top of James and Paul who had no reason to start believing in Jesus without a resurrection! There is no way the bible isn’t true and all anyone has to do is take a little time and look at the evidence. How would Matt reconcile the fact that Isaiah was written some 500 BC and writes about a messiah born of a virgin and then it happens. Or King Cyrus! There are non biblical contemporaries who wrote about Jesus claiming to be the Son of God and being crucified for same as well as having followers who claimed he did miracles and that he rose again! I feel so sorry for Matt!

Matt's objections are unfortunately born of a particular Christian heritage which is theologically rudimentary and simplistic. Essentially he's shooting down straw men without realising it. For example he has a problem with substitutionary atonement, and his objection is correct because substitutionary atonement is incorrect. However he hasn't heard the proper understanding of the atonement so he simply continues to shoot down the substitutionary version. The Lord bless you Matt. In some places of the world, prostitution became legalized. It's an actual career that you pursue. Either he paid for sex at some point or is aware of this in the world and is ok with prostitution.

In the case of the "rich young ruler," Jesus isn't saying that all everyone has to do is sell all their possessions to get into heaven, He's pointing out that we shouldn't let worldly things prevent us from following God, that we shouldn't put worldly things ahead of God. He was using a specific example to illustrate a general concept.

You would think that an all knowing being would be capable of "inspiring" humans to write stuff that doesn't take a PhD in theology to understand. If he really wanted people to "know" him, he may make himself a little more obvious. Spare me all the apologetics about having to seek him and all that, most of us atheists spent many years doing just that. The truth shouldn't need apologetics. The other glaring flaw with using the bible as some kind of spiritual guide book that was inspired by a deity is, there is no information in that book that could have only come from a deity. This would be like a Mormon telling you that your book is ok, but there's is the real deal. They both have the exact same amount of evidence and that is a problem for some people.

I have been to several churches which include various denominations including Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, and non-denominational (those are merely churches that aren't part of a larger organization, like being an independent rather than a Democrat or Republican), and I've heard this particular passage in most of those as it's a popular one, and until now I hadn't heard it so misinterpreted. I can understand someone completely outside the Christian faith misinterpreting it, particularly if they are reading the King James version, given the general lack of critical thinking that people tend to demonstrate when reading anything these days, but both Ray and Matt should know this portion of scripture better. Ray because he is a Christian and supposedly studies scripture, and Matt because he was a former Christian who apparently had designs on becoming a pastor. And, like I said, this is a popular bit of scripture for pastors and priests to preach on, so I find it hard to believe neither of them have heard it explained as I explained it.

this atheist needs a thorough schooling in Prophecy past, present and future, he needs to be shown how God authenticates His Word by telling and fulfilling Prophecy. This is the way to prove that God exists....

Is necessary really use a philosophical method that demonstrate the fallibility of human though sistem, that is, applies the pressupositionalism of Cornelius Van Til (have you heard about him?) And after that present a christian view like substitute and unique because his belief will be full of holes.

Porn addiction isn’t recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. It is debated upon as to whether or not it's an addiction in the medical world. However, in my unprofessional opinion, I think it counts as an addiction once it starts regularly interfering with your life and makes you nonfunctional in many aspects.

I would also add that while there is no specific diagnosis called "pornography addiction", there are compulsive sexual disorders where porn can and does play a huge role in making the problem worse. Excessive use of pornography (to a point where quality of life is diminished) can also play a big part in hypersexual disorder (or should it be "disorders"? not sure if it's plural).
What Matt should have said, if he wished to be accurate, is that there is no specific DIAGNOSIS for pornography addiction. Psychiatrists across the board recognize that there are people for whom excessive viewing of pornography can a problem.
I think we pretty much agree. Then there's my personal opinion, which is that porn can also be a distraction from dealing with problems, just like sleeping around, partying excessively, Netflix and watching random christian debates on youtube. Just a sidenote.

Might have had to keep the position pithy with Ray Comfort though since Ray has a problem with staying on one topic and not going into preachy salad. Also it's a problem in the Christian community to label any porn watching as sex addiction.
But I have noticed Matt has a problem sometimes where he gives the pithy offensive version of his opinion and it doesn't do him any good or accurately represents his full thoughts on it. I'm a sociolinguist and there's quite a few things I wish he would change about the way he phrases things honestly.

Actually, for me, theism makes more sense than atheism, I mean let's say that the big bang is true, then what created the big bang? It's just explodes and created things? Things that actually even if just a little is messed up(for example: the distance of earth to sun) we wouldn't exist. Also the points you brought up can fit into "the God of the gaps" argument. Same as when we didn't know what created lightning we invented a God that did it, now that we know and have filled that gap with science, people instead say "we don't know what created the big bang". If you are saying, we don't know what created the big bang therefore God, you are making an "argument from ignorance" fallacy. Also "it just explodes and created things" is a gross misrepresentation of big bang cosmology. I'd be interested to know what you know about the science behind the big bang theory. The second point you bring up is called the "fine tuning argument", also a hot topic but as of yet, there is no real solution except for maybe the anthropic principle. But same goes for this agrument, you can't claim that God did it because nobody knows the real answer yet (or ever will).

ok, you guys are asking to defend our faith without the faith. To explain the Bible without using the Bible. It's like asking a doctor to operate without using what he learned in med school. A pilot to fly a plane without using what he learned in pilot school. Do u see how impossibly impossible that is? Everything we know about the faith is from the Bible. Everything a doctor knows about treatment is from med school. The Bible says if you seek him with a humble heart he will reveal himself to you. Millions of people took what the gospel said, did this, and found the LORD. "How do I know you're telling the truth?" Obey the gospel ('seek GOD with a humble heart and he will reveal himself to you') and you will know becasue he will reveal himself to you. @@joshuacline12 All Im asking is for you to tell me if you can observe God with any of our physical senses. I humbled myself and sought after God, maybe I found Him without knowing it in a spiritual way but definitely no observable way. If God wants to send me to hell for not guessing He lives then so be it. He's omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. If He wanted to save me He would know what to show/tell me, and He would not harden my heart against unproven stories.
Interesting thing is doctors learn how to perform surgeries and use medication. They don't learn how to keep the body healthy (maybe they do but they definitely fail at it).
So to bring it back to context, I want spiritual health not just something to believe in because of fearmongering. And it definitely is fearmongering, even if I decide to believe (while knowing that I cant possibly be certain) I would still hate to see family and friends in hell. I won't be able to enjoy heaven and I doubt Ill enjoy His presence if He sent my family and friends to hell, because Im no different from them (Im equally sinful according to God's standard, or would gullibility somehow make me morally superior?). Id be looking at an eternity of depression, or since nothing like that will be in heaven would I just be tossed out or would my mind essentially be altered?

In GOD’s defense- in the beginning GOD mad everything perfect- laughter, joy, happiness, peace, etc. that is how it was in the Garden of Eden. GOD, not wanting to control us like robots, gave us an option, essentially: “you can be around all the things I made-happiness, joy, peace, etc- or you can choose not to” thus the tree that WE CHOSE to eat from. He even warned us “you will surely die if u eat from it” and we live in a fallen creation becasue of it. Every bad thing in the world is becasue we choose to follow an evil devil and not a perfect GOD. So, however long u live, whether it be 70,60,20, etc, GOD has given u that long to turn from the evil and come to him. He even died for you so that way he would remain Just. He couldn’t just let a criminal off the hook when there was a fine to pay, HE PAID YOUR FINE. So, let’s recap- GOD used to walk with us, talk to us, be with us- we chose this. We chose to leave him, that is why we are living in this turmoil. To answer your question, yes, He requires faith. He requires faith in him, a belief he exists, and repentance. Without repentance there is no forgiveness of sins. The Bible says “he chose the foolish things to confound the wise.” In other words- remember Noah’s ark? Jonah and the wale? The parting of the sea by Moses? Sounds crazy right? But he chose them for those who aren’t humble and want to believe he is limited by any of this. Some people have observed GOD through observable ways. 500+ people seen Jesus after he risen. Another thing, would me and you- being logical people- die for something we knew was a lie? Well tons of Christians who observed Jesus’ miracles did according to the logic that Jesus never did miracles. Another thing, you know those people who control things at the top of our society? The politicians and what not? Yea, those people were in the Bible during Jesus’ time, they were called Pharisees and Scribes and they BADLY didn’t want his words to get out. They HATED him, they CRUCIFIED him. And the people who wrote the Bible, the ones who observed his miracles, they died to get his words out. Would me and you die for a lie? No. Also let me give u something else, there are over 10k manuscripts of the Bible that are written within 99.5% accuracy of one another. In other words- there is more evidence that Jesus existed than Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato combined. Than Alexander the Great, than Genghis Khan. This is a few of many things. This isn’t blind faith my friend, it’s evidence based faith- but you need to search to find the evidence. You cannot just put it off. Yeah, thats the thing about Ray. He's quite dishonest. There's nothing wrong with being a Christian, or disagreeing with Matt. But Ray doesn't even listen to people. He purposely lies about what people claim. And then when he's corrected by those very people who say, "No, that's not what i said," he will go on repeating those lies. Lying is wrong, and Ray does a lot of it.

Thank you Living Waters for posting this showdown. I was a dedicated Christian all my life until I saw this video. By virtue of this video and listening to Matt's responses I have learned how to question and assess what I believed in a rational unbiased manor become more in touch with my own common sense. I now am a fully committed atheist. Listening to the contradictions and obvious weak foundations of argument Ray presents made my choice easy. Thank you Ray for illuminating how one dimensional and ridiculous I have been all my life up till now. Ray really made my choice much easier.
so you went from believing a God who loves you and created you with value and reason to believing that you are nothing more than a blob of chemicals with no ultimate meaning or value. Denying God is denying an ultimate standard of Morality, Value, Truth and Reason. so ultimately you should have no Reason to become an athiests. Reason presupposes design, logic, order and truth and there could be none of those principles without a standard of such.

I'm curious how you can become and atheist and claim to have studied the Bible. Perhaps you were a christian who never read most of the Word? Explain how the Bible knew centuries ahead of time exactly when Jesus would be born, what nation He would be born in, what town he would be born in, what tribe He would be born, what family He would be born, or his entire ministry, His life, His betrayal, crucifixion and Resurrection all centuries before they happened. How did it know Rome would crucify Jesus centuries before Rome was a world kingdom or ruled in Judea, or 10 centuries before crucifixion even existed as capital punished.
And how in the world did the Bible know Rome would destroy the temple and Israel completely and scatter the Jews across the earth in the great diaspora for nearly 2000 years? And how in the world did it know Israel would be reborn as a nation 2000 years later, following the holocaust and WW2?
No other nation in the history of the world has ever been completely destroyed and then reborn as a nation. Only one.....Israel. And the Bible predicted the destruction by Rome and the rebirth nearly 2000 years later. And its took 2 world wars and the holocaust to make it happen.

Look at the story of Osiris for just one which was way before the Jesus stories. All stolen content mate. None of them predictions are mentioned by name tho are they. Ray, as a viewer of almost all of your videos (most of which I really enjoy), you really fumbled the ball on this one and made yourself look like a fool in my opinion. I get where your heart is and you were most likely trying to open his eyes to truth, but you really did make yourself out to be a fool by assuming you knew what Matt was thinking and dodging any question that asked you to give evidence. Very sad

I will say with one hundred percent certainty that I love Ray and I pray for him. His style and bravery when sharing the Gospel is inspiring. He has no doubt planted the seed of God in thousands of people and has been doing so for a long time. For this style of "debate" I think a strong apologist would be necessary. But being that Ray is an evangelist and may not be playing to his strength I still love his unwavering faith in the face of this conversation. One of the reasons Ray may not have been answering Matt's questions I'd like to imagine is because he is following Proverbs 26:4 which says "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him."
