Living In Puerto Rico| La Bomba: A Dance Of The African Diaspora (2023)
Welcome Back everyone! Today's video is a living in puerto rico vlog of our time learning La Bomba in Loiza, Puerto Rico. Want to know what it is like living in Puerto Rico in 2023 be sure to watch this video! Puerto Rico is such an amazing place to live and it offers so much to those who reside here on the island. Living in Puerto Rico is not like any other place.
La Bomba is both a traditional dance and musical style of Puerto Rico. Its origins are rooted in the island's history of African slavery but today has evolved into a community expression of Puerto Rican culture.

🇵🇷 ¡Buen Dia! Hope all’s well. Are you going to attend and post footage of the Loiza Bombs Festival that’s currently taking place? 💃🏿💃🏾💃🏽
@@amyt2400 idk this had even happen!!! We are still learning a lot about the festival and activities available. I want to record more Bomba performances. If you ever have any suggestions please dm us on IG with the details.
@@GetIntoTheBLACK There seem yo be a lot of Facebook pages designed to current goings on. If I recall correctly, they’re in Spanish. 🪬
Nice! If you run across them please share
Thank You for streaming our culture we’re our ancestors spirits will keep us together though the drums and dance🌻🌞hope the rhythms fulfilled your body with joy and blessings🥂
Gracias! It did🥰 I loved it…made me feel like a young girl dancing to the drums in Leimert park. It’s nice being able to be anywhere and feel connected…1 love ❤️
Thanks for coming to the island to learn of our real roots ❤❤❤❤
Yes one of the things I wanted to learn was about the African Roots here.
I wish more Americans and foreigners visit town Loiza more often, and African Americans should know about Loiza as well. That's the real connection and the feel of Africa. I wish all Bomba groups, the municipality of Loiza and PRTC (Puerto Rico Tourism Company), do more about this type of activity, such as monthly calendars. So close to San Juan. Love bomba and alcapurrias!!!!!
Yessss!!!! Omg anytime I know someone is here I tell them to go to Pinones and Loiza. I swear you feel so connected to the space. I felt the same way I visited NOLA which is where my family is from. Something about the spirit of the ancestors in those places. They are alive and well and you can feel it. We will forsure be posting more content like this and thank you so much for being so supportive!
We try, the problem is that the government doesnt give us the real support we need, most of this activities are because we do it on our own.
@gina_PR So you tried to reach out to the mayor of Loiza and PRTC? Most municipalities manage their own tourism programs but are incompetent. Manati does well without much intervention from PRTC.
Here tuned in from Barbados🇧🇧
Ayyyeeee!!! I love it
New subscriber here! You did very good dancing with the rythm of our bomba! I'm from Ponce, PR and living in CT! Many blessings to you and your beautiful family! ❤
Hey!!! Thank you for subscribing. Really enjoyed dancing bomba want to take some real classes so I can learn the full history behind the movements.
🌸 I used to attend Bomba y Plena performances at the COPI Center. Loved to go there as an observer and take photographs of the dancers and spectators. I speak Spanish and have always been mistaken for Puerto Rican. But I’m not. I used to live on the island for long time. Wrote about food and travel.
It is uplifting to see your personal journey and how PR captured your soul. Have you ever attended the Annual Festival de Bomba y Plena de San Antón in Loiza?
I have not but that sounds like a lot of fun. The first year we were here it was Covid so they weren’t having all the festivals then this year we had a baby. We are still trying to figure out childcare but once we do we will be trying to do alot more events.
Are you in PR?
🌸 I trust that you received my way-too-lengthy response. 🙂
I had so much info I wanted to impart to you. Hope it proves helpful. 🌴
@@amyt2400 thank you!
The festival of San Antón is in Ponce, not Loíza, the Loíza festival is fiestas de Santiago

Imagine keeping a tradition alive since 1422 .... I know the only way our slaves ancestors felt free was dacing bailando al ritmo 🪘🪘🪘 de tambor... Los Hermanos Ayalas tocaban en la casa de mi vecina todo el barrio subía a bailar
