I have a degree in black studies and my senior thesis was on PR. It’s a very interesting history. Extreme racism but displayed differently than in the US. Spaniards were an interesting group of people.

Buena and thank you…it’s kind of complicated because not all people are upset about people coming to PR it’s a very small select group of people. Most of those people don’t even reside in PR. It doesn’t make any sense considering black/Africans were in PR prior to colonization by the Spaniards but there’s a lot of white supremacy rhetoric in the gringo go home movement. It reminds me a lot of nationalism back home in the states they don’t really make any sense. It’s honestly just a hate group and we helped to expose it based on an interaction we had with them. Basically the movement has gotten highjacked by bigots and they use it as a means to validate racist and xenophobic beliefs. We ignore them and try to focus on those who are kind and welcoming. I felt the quote is also very relevant because the person from gringo go home was attempting to use Malcolm X in her argument that we were colonizers because we were engaging in capitalism. @GetIntoTheBLACK Yes that's what I meant. The main barrier is your skin color but if you assimilated it won't matter as much. I mean what do you expect? To an extent Puerto Ricans here in America discriminate against people who aren't Puerto Rican as well especially if you're Black. Sorry what does “as much” discrimination means…idk there were levels to discrimination it’s simply just discrimination. There’s no reducing it. There’s no like level 3 discrimination. You’re living a fantasy if you think that will ever help. Someone who discriminates against me because I am black and from the Cali will always do that because I can’t erase that I am black and from Cali. What you’re trying to do is tell me to assimilate so I can “pass” and maybe people will be nicer. We already know passing doesn’t work…history already taught us this.

When you are looking to get a review removed you have to be aware of the review policy to know if the review goes against it. For example the negative review we received was considered retaliatory due to guest mentioning the rating was due to us enforcing our house rules for quiet hours. Host and guest are not able to use the review system to retaliate against the other. If you want you can copy and paste the review you received in the comments and I can let you know if it goes against the review policy in any way. It’s much easier to get a review removed when you are able to tell support exactly why it should be removed.

@@GetIntoTheBLACK i appreciate you responding! In my case the employee of the host lied and fabricated some damage that I didn't do. I fought the request for additional funds for cleaning. While it was in arbitration the host sent me horrific cruel messages on What'sApp. I reported it to Airbnb and the refunded me for the entire stay and denied her claim. In her review she claimed i trashed her apartment. AirBnB only allowed me to add a rebuttal to her review, but they won't remove her review. That's mind blowing to me because i proved she and her staff were liars🤷🏽‍♀️

Yeah that sounds crazy but not surprised. Have heard them doing similar things like that to host as well. Our first review that we got removed took us talking to several people and someone getting reported to a supervisor before it actually got removed.

Thank you so much…we know this is not all and that’s why we love it here. These people specifically where trying to use the group to intimidate us beside they didn’t like us. They are not nice people. I don’t even blame the movement I can empathize with the frustrations of gentrification. What u don’t like is people who try to use others emotions against them to do their pain dirty work. The people mentioned in this video are dangerous. I don’t even think they are a reflection of GGH. They were simply two individuals caring about their own selfish interest but trying to utilize GGH to validate their hatred and bad behavior.

@@kumosunfilteredconvospodca9615 so everywhere in PR there are electricity issues and hotels are not exempt. The hotels just have their own back up power source. While we were at the hotel the power went out but then their generators kicked in. It happened a few times. One of the major issues with PR electricity is Luma. We should do a video about it because it’s important for people to understand exactly what’s going on when it comes to the electricity. It’s a major issue here for everyone. Although having money does help to eliminate some of the hardships when it comes to power outages…everyone still experiences them. The only thing you really can do is figure out how to have your own power source and that’s why hotels will have power while some locals will not. Hotels just have more money to have generators that produce power when there’s an outage. Also by the time that we went to a hotel mostly everyone in our area had consistent power and was just dealing with the normal power outages we deal with on a daily basis. The area of Carolina just took the longest to get their power back. Something about a power plant in Carolina caught on fire a little before the storm came. That’s why our power went out before the storm had arrived.

Yes, Luma is the electric company but like mentioned the hotel I was at even had its electricity going out. The idea that the hotels had power and the locals didn’t isn’t true but yes Luma is responsible for suppling electricity to everyone. I also don’t think k you can really blame Luma for all of the electricity issues. Luma inherited Puerto Rico and it already had electrician issues. Luma was suppose to fix it but hasn’t. That’s where Luma is the issue.

🤣 believe you me we know but thank you for the tip! We are I think that’s part of our issue on why we can’t keep a cleaner. Most cleaners start out great then they start trying to cut corners which we won’t allow to happen.

Ageism…interesting lol Never is my discussion to mean that Puerto Ricsns haven’t faced adversity but I’m also not talking about black in the sense of African American. That makes sense but you could just charge more for one nighters. What we do is charge a 30% premium using pricelabs. A one nighter basically pays the same price as a two nighter so it’s worth it for us. You just have to find your price but that’s if you’re having occupancy issues. We want to max out our occupancy as much as possible and run typically at 85-90% occupancy. Also even if we only get like $155 which is the lowest we will work for we usually just do the cleaning ourselves and $155 is forsure worth it for us. This is our main income and $150/day is over 6 figures for the year.

Yeah the racism in PR is very covert. Makes it difficult for people to identify and easy for those to overlook it. As you stated education is key.

We are speaking specifically about gringo go home. I’ve been called a Boricua plenty of times upon people first meeting me but we are talking about nationalist who know we are from the US. Of course if they think you’re a local they will treat you differently. Also you should watch the whole video because we highlight how most of the gringo go home issues are online and not in person and they are also people who do not live here locally.
