I’ve hated Kayn since release, his wall ignoring gives such stupid macro advantages that you can ignore half the game’s pathing optimizations and just walk a straight line with long enough walls.
Red does percent max hp and heals off it meaning you get one pen item and you will always deal solid damage to any target but don’t need to bother stacking health yourself, just throw bare minimum resists off AD bruiser items. I bet steraks is insane on him rn, it started giving tenacity since I last played so he can greed the recall boots and still have cc reduction plus ridic shield value.
I feel like red Kayn can absolutely get one single tank item and maintain his threat with just Cleaver or Grudge if you aren’t able to teamfight or need to rely on your own damage to kill the backline (ie your allies do not have zac level followup)
Not saying you need it immediately tho
obviously bruiser items of choice outside of core (Pen+best Real Tank item for situation) -> (AD bruiser items of choice to round out lesser damage treat types
Ex: Spirit Visage
Frozen Heart (healing is effective hp, raw armor better than more hp by increasing effectiveness of each point)
also makes it harder for aa threats to fight back and kite, in many ways better than a regular Slow for that, Ability Haste for your op kit
Thornmail in case you want to counter other autoattacking drain tanks
Itemization deserves more thought than I think most people give it
Blue is of course an even dumber macro threat that chokes the enemy safe vision placeability to frankly unfun levels of risk, never felt like I was really playing the same game whenever I tried Blue and enemy got even slightly behind.

last season i think i went malz top and had a kayn top + something even more impossible.. since they went solo bot and kayn had a freaking yumi on top of him..
Nomatter how low i got him yumi just kept save him and messed up my jungler til point the jungler couldnt go close to top side and it went in their jungle all time so the jungler gave up being close since their mid and jungler prob got vision our jungle so he got there each time our where there,,
Also all buffs as i went down.. mid gave up.. bot went weird in exp since was solo laner..
If longer game i guess they just trade lane to have yumi-kayn going bot
if u got your supps to be yumis i think be impossible to get taken down.. similar as a lilia at lvl 3-4 get a yumi and gets impossible to take down if kept alive and go in-out.. but kayn in-out is more escaping also outside out map is weird topside
