    Hi Jean,
I am a Security Manager at a Casino in Las Vegas and a former Law Enforcement Officer. I appreciate your suggestions and helpful information. It has been beneficial to share with my Report Writers, as we have many of the same calls as I did in the Law Enforcement world. Training civilians to write like LEO's is always challenging, however with your information it has been going much smoother!

+Michelle Boldt Thank you so much for the feedback, Michelle! I especially like your comment about training civilians to write like CEO's. I'm so glad my materials have been helpful.

Jean Reynolds this was very helpful. I am a new police officer. I'm having several issues with my report writing. Sometimes they are ok, but the majority of the reports I write lands me in the Sgt's office. I will try your approach. Thank you.

Once you document the persons whole name, is it acceptable to use first names only through the rest of the report or should you use the persons full name at each mention of the subject in the report?

Yes, it is. But this is really a question for your supervisor. Ask how your agency handles those repeated names. Policies vary from agency to agency.

Sadly, no. I'm busy with other writing projects. It's a shame. I enjoyed making those videos. If you have a topic you'd like to suggest, I'd be very interested. Part of the reason I stopped is that I felt I'd covered most of the issues my audience wanted to hear about.

The cops who wrote the report in the video I posted did not write what I said at all. They also lied and said my daughter admitted to not wearing her seatbelt. My 12 year old said she never said that and I told the cop I put the seatbelt on her myself. It was not until the ambulance driver treated my daughter for seatbelt marks (which the hospital later gave her more treatment for) that they let it go. I was hit in the back by a driver with road rage, my 12 year old was injured, the cops hugged the young woman who hit me when they arrived and they talked to her like they knew her. Then they wrote that I cut her off and caused her to hit me. My insurance had to pay for the damage to the front of her car.
