    Nice! I also admire that you did it yourself and not over-engineer it with a perfect, shiny 3d printed solution. The fun is to do such things from scratch and find solutions as you go and learn from the mistakes.

      +BoomBrush So you're saying that you watch free content made by people who really don't get much in return, and most of the time you couldn't be bothered to click like, even if you like it? A simple click helps push the channel higher in search rankings and suggested videos. Surely that's the least we can do for quality content like this?

    • @BoomBrush
      @BoomBrush 9 років тому

      To an extent, yes. I agree, if I like content I should like it to give back to the content producer however they already have my subscription and a view count added, which in most cases I think is enough.
      In the situation with Greatscott I noticed this particular video project was done well, so I gave it a thumbs up which is substantial for me. I have also recommended Greatscott to people IRL via word of mouth.

      If I can do something that costs me absolutely nothing, to help somebody who has given me something for free get a small amount of ad revenue, or even just some thanks and recognition, then I'll go out of my way to do it. But that's just me.

    I'm a fan! :) And i want to add some info:
    I made a wooden(10mm plywood) box once, and while i'm using cnc router to cut the walls of the box, i too didn't achieve even fit. So after putting box together, i try to sand the excess parts of the walls but it was a labor extesive job. My friend lend me his palm sander machine with its 120, 320 and 800 sand papers. It worked wonders. Within 10 minutes i even all the walls of the box, it even cleans the epoxy residue left from cementation. Also as you know, good sanded surface helps the spray paint surface to shine but hand sanding is a big pain. But not with the palm sander.
    I bought one from local hardware store for 49 ₺, (approximately 17$) and its sand papers 15₺ (5 $~). (₺ is Republic of Turkey currency)
    Looking forward to see your new videos. Have a nice week. :)

    Nice video just loved it. Some of my learnings with the hot glue is to not to use it when the part is going to get heated beyond 60 Deg C. You measured the charger getting beyond 60 Deg C and also the battery is going to get heated. While this will not do any harm initially, over a period of time the hot glue will start getting slack and ultimately the parts will fall off (And can cause shorts etc). So my method was to use hot glue as a temp tack and use Silicone (Which can withstand very high temperatures of close to 300 Deg C or more) in conjunction. So while the hot glue provides for brute strength the silicone prevent glue run off and the part becoming loose inside the cabinet.

    Nice project but I would prefer to build a plastic case. I like using ABS which you can buy in sheets. And since it is already black in color, no need for paint. Of course, more expensive than wood but also, more durable.

  • @Lykon
    @Lykon 7 років тому

    you should use primer on mdf before painting it. The primer wil lfill the gaps in the mdf and cover the glue. Sanding the primer before reapplying another layer is also a good idea.

    • @harshbarj
      @harshbarj 9 років тому +10

      Jordan O'C Really? A 3d printed case would look a lot cleaner and more professional. Handcrafted cases are good for quick and dirty projects, as well as prototyping, but for long term use, you really should print a case, or use a premade project box.

    • @Valtra103
      @Valtra103 9 років тому +33

      harshbarj Actualy if you put enough work, you can hand craft a beautiful case.

    • @Xenro66
      @Xenro66 9 років тому +7

      harshbarj Sorry dude, I have to agree with Valtra103. A handcrafted case is only as good as the effort you put into it. Look at Jimmy DiResta for example, he makes all his stuff. Not all of it is necessarily hand made, but it still looks fantastic. 3D printing is good, however, it just can't be the human touch.
      Edit: corrected typo

    • @harshbarj
      @harshbarj 9 років тому

      Jordan O'C , So your original comment was wrong by your own admission. First you say it is always better, then you say it depends on the work you put into it. If it depends, then it can't always be true. That was my only issue, your generalization of all hand made cases being better, not that you can't make a nice case by hand. It's just not worth the time IMHO.

    If you have a rotary plunge router you could use it to create the inset for the screen and other elements, and even use it to drill and remove openings in the frame in one step without using a saw.

    I hope you wearing a particle respirator when you make dust with MDF. It is composed of glue containing formaldehyde (higly carcenogenic). When you cut MDF, It release in the air tiny particles that can get stuck in lungs, remains on your clothes and in the enviroment for days. I think other composite materials (e.g. OSD, plywood...) can contains formaldehide too. The old good bare wood, a block plane, two saws (1 rip-cut, 1 cross-cut) and some chisels and you can build everything in a more safe manner. I don't want to scare you, I just want to make you safe.

  • @winandd8649

      and this is how i did it: soldered battery to the AAA battery connector. soldered micro usb as well to the same connector for charging. thats it. when battery is low it switches off and then i plug micro usb for charging. i dont use it when charging and i let it charge for about 1 hour. it lasts about 3-4 days. its a 340mAH li ion battery i salvaged from a broken mp4 player

    it's probably not very smart to hot glue your batteries.. battery holders are like 2€/piece

      I think you should do a video of a second revision of this portable screen, then we will take your advice seriously.

    Next time, It will be nice if you use a 3d printer to print a custom plastic box for your monitor.

    Alle Teile bestellt, ich bin scharf drauf! Richtig gut wäre noch eine kabellose Übertragung des HDMI Signals. Kann man sowas auch basteln ;)?

    Nice choice of electronics, I would consider a 3D printer though, you could make a much more ergonomic shape, more like an iPad or other tablet, to hold the contents. Nice video though!

      ***** the purpose is to allow people that doesn't own a 3dprinter to do the case. Well u can always design your own case using cad ;)

    I'm attempting a similar style build, but for some reason am not wrapping my head around the resolution I need(#noob). I'm viewing a 30 dollar product that resembles the first screen and driver you had in the first video, the specs for the display are:
    "LCD size: 7.0 inch(Diagonal)
    Resolution: 800×3(RGB)×480
    Display mode: Normally White, Transmissive
    Dot pitch: 0.0642(W)×0.1790(H) mm
    Active area: 154.08(W)×85.92(H) mm
    Module size: 164.9(W)×100.0(H)×5.7(D) mm
    Surface treatment: Anti-Glare"
    While the specs for the HDMI+VGA+2AV Driver Board are:
    "Dimension: 90.57 X 65.60 X 12mm
    Work Voltage: DC 12V
    Up to Resolution: 7~22inch up to 1920*1080
    Input: Dual/Single LVDS interface
    Work Current: 200~250mA
    Input Signal: HDMI VGA AV
    Audio: Support
    Remote: Optional
    OSD: Support"
    Does this mean that the driver is capable but the screen will have low resolution? I could go with the $70 dollar option, but I'd like to have a better understanding of why this $30 one is insufficient for the sake of expanding my own knowledge.
