Agreed. Lennon McCartney and Burt Bacharach, I seem to recall (I was a child!), were the best known songwriters of the time, and possibly to this day. Cilla recorded songs by both. And, as others have said, Paul McCartney wrote "Step Inside Love" especially for her, and it became her signature tune for her shows.
Paul McCartney wrote for Cilla so did John Lennon. The Beatles shared the same manager, Brian Epstein, before his death and the brilliant Sir George Martin produced The Beatles and Cilla's music.
As she was from Liverpool, she was best friends with all The Beatles as they all played at The Cavern Club. After hanging up the mic, she became a huge tv star from the 80s onwards - a true household name and national treasure. She was known as 'Mrs Saturday Night' - hosting #1 shows such as Blind Date and Surprise Surprise. She went too soon, even at 72, RIP Cilla.
Do you remember when she resigned live on air before being forced out with changes she didn't want? It was a special live edition of Blind Date. I think you might find it on UA-cam. 🙏
Cilla was not just an acquaintance of the Beatles, she was a life long friend. She and Ringo lived round the corner from each other and their families were close friends. Cilla was the cloak room assistant at the Cavern and sang bits and bobs there. To the Beatles she was 'our Cyril' and the first time she was on stage with them in the big time she was really worried they would introduce her as Cyril instead of Cilla. her real name was Prescilla White, but Brian Epstein suggested Cilla Black as a stage name. There is a really good biopic 'Cilla' made in 2014 which is available on Amazon Prime, certainly in the UK. This is really worth a watch. Oh, and Cilla was a red head.
I recently saw something about a new biopic about Epstein that was advertised with a post on Cilla's fan page on Facebook. I think that one is only available in the UK on Amazon Prime. I've tried searching for it and can't find it anywhere.
The only thing I would question about that is that Richard Starkey lived in the south end of the city off Park Road whereas Priscilla White lived just outside the centre of the city on Scotland Road travelling north The TV Biopic starred Sheridan Smith as Cilla...which was a brilliant portrayal
Good suggestion Cilla's version of Alfie (Song by Bacharach & David) From Wiki: "The session for Black's recording of "Alfie" took place in the autumn of 1965, in Studio One at Abbey Road Studios, and was overseen by Black's regular producer George Martin. In addition to the agreed arranging and piano playing, Bacharach conducted a 48-piece orchestra, and the session also featured the Breakaways as background vocalists. "
Apparently, Cilla was sort of discovered by Paul McCartney while Cilla worked in the cloakroom at the cavern. Unfortunately, Cilla passed away after a fall at her Spanish home.
Dusty Springfield (You Don't Have To Say You Love Me), Leslie Gore (It's My Party), Petula Clark (Downtown), Brenda Lee (I'm Sorry), Etta James (At Last), Vicki Carr, (It Must Be Him), Shirley Bassey (I Who Have Nothing) to name a few. There are so many more.
Another much neglected but highly talented English singer is Elkie Brooks. She had several hits which included "Pearl's a Singer", "Lilac Wine", "Fool (if you think it's over)" and "Sunshine after the rain".
About a year before she recorded this she was working as the cost check at the cavern club where the beatles played. That's where she was discovered, and how quickly she became a star.
My dad loved The Beatles and Cilla. I was very aware of their music from when I was 5 yrs old. We watched Top Of The Pops every week. Special hello to Jay!
Cilla's version of Alfie was the original and released before Alfie to promote the film but the song wasn't in the British release of the film. The song recorded by Cher was included in the film for the American release, then covered by Dionne Warwick.
Just the music alone gets me it's so emotional..my dad was dying of dementia and I quietly whispered the words as I sang the chorus in his ear and he passed about half hour later .love you my dear ❤️ Dad.
I love the history of this Cila was discovered when a singing group said to their new manager “you should check out the girl in the coat room our mate Cila she’s got a set of pipes on her that one” the manager was Brian Epstein and the group were the Beatles.
she had two amazing careers in the UK. first as a major singing star in the 60s then in the 80s reborn again as the biggest female host on UK TV. Actually maybe the biggest TV host period. RIP Cilla.
This was Cilla's second big hit in the UK with her strong voice. Later on Paul McCartney wrote 'Step inside ' for Cilla. My Beatles suggestion for Amber who likes the psychedelic ones is 'Tomorrow never knows' perhaps their most p song.
Good review as always, but a big shout out to the person who uploaded this video. Showing Cilla through all the years she entertained so many of us RIP......
This is the song that lifted Cilla Black to another level, just Brilliant ... Cilla was the cloakroom girl in Liverpool's Cavan Club where the Beatles started..
I miss Cilla so much 'Surprise, Surprise' Those were the days. I still get nostalgic when I hear the 'Blind Date theme!' She certainly was and actually is posthumously a national treasure. Her voice was very 60's and sadly didn't fit in to the modern era that is the 80's and 90's. People were quite cruel to her and her voice. I think she had a pure voice and a natural talent. She never had singing lessons, but was spotted by the Beatles's manager, Mr Brian Epstein in the Cavern one night. She didn't have a mic and was able to belt them out. Ironically she always said that she hated ballads and was a rocker as she put it. Just for the record, her name was Prescilla White which she changed to black because it sounded better and I think there was another Prescilla White at that time.. She wasn't a natural redhead, however, and she used to make a lot of fun out of that. She was totally unassuming and typically self-deprecating as we all are. I think it's in our British DNA lol! She was just a lovely person and always appeared to be happy when the public were there and did well on her shows etc. I love 'Anyone Who had A Heart but You're My World, brings me to tears every time I hear it. If you have loved someone, you know and feel every word she is singing. It's like she is singing every word, every heart in love and has been broken feels. RIP Cilla.
Cilla had some great hits! If you aren't aware, she was from Liverpool, was great friends with The Beatles and was also managed by Brian Epstein. Alfie is another great one of hers, as it Step Inside Love, which was written for her by Paul McCartney ✌❤✌
She loved when she got to host the BeeGees. You should check out their appearance on her Christmas show - with all of their kids (at the time) singing with her.
She was such a gem from Liverpool and had a friendship with the Beatles, please play more of her music it's beautiful. Songs like "Step Inside Love" written for her by Paul McCartney and "Conversations" and many more!
One of my favorite 60s female singers. Have this song in my MyMix list. Listen to it frequently. But then again, I listen to a lot of 60s performers. Dusty Springfield and Judith Durham of The Seekers are other fabulous 60s female singers. Glad you reviewed Cilla again.
On "Cilla" - the mini TV series that was done about her over here - Sheridan Smith played the part of her in it - From what I recall, she talked with Cilla about it, maybe even sang with her a bit just to get the voice as right as she possibly could in it - and then Boom, she sang the covers of not only Anyone Who Had A Heart - but also, You're My World on the series - and she was amazing in her portrayal of her! So Amber, try and check out Sheridan's covers from the series if you can - although sadly, one of them is longer than the other, luckily for us . . . I'm not sure if Sheridan actually released either of them as a cover - but she should have! Enjoy . . .
I saw that on PBS here in the US. Sheridan Smith was fantastic! Later, I saw a video on UA-cam showing the original clip of Cilla singing "Don't Answer Me" that they reproduced in the mini-series and Sheridan's performance was identical!
This biographical mini series was one of the best I have ever seen about a pop singer. Very well written, filmed and performed. Sheridan Smith truly amazing in the title role, for sure! Well worth watching if you are interested, even a little bit, about Cilla Black,The Beatles and the Liverpool music scene in the 1960s.
First, Amber and Jay, I’d like to welcome you both back from a most deserved break. Now to Ms. Cilla Black; what a beautiful, emotionally laden voice that brings tears to my eyes. Thank you both for this great reaction. And to a wonderful couple, keep up the great work. May God continue to watch over you both and your wonderful family.
Oh my goodness! I love this song! It’s my husband’s and my song… we met in high school in the’70s and he’s my world- he’s my everything!! Thank you for picking this song! ❤️
Great reaction! You're My World by Cilla Black is in a league of its own. It's even better than Everyone Who Has a Heart. BTW, I like your new hairstyle, Amber!
I was introduced to Cilla mainly by name first as she was friends with the Beatles and I was *really * into them in high school. It wasn’t until later when I bought a CD set of the British Invasion that I heard her for the first time with this song. If you’re interested, there’s a mini-series about her on Prime called “Cilla”. I thought it was very good
Cilla (1943-2015) was an all round talent, as a singer, actress and TV host. As an actress she was known for Last Night in Soho (2021), Hellboy (2019) and Cilla (1968). She also hosted TV shows in the 1980s and 1990s-Blind Date (1985-2003) and Surprise Surprise (1984-2001). She also presented the game show The Moment of Truth (1998-2001). She was a very funny and relatable woman on the screen. Worth a look in the archives of TV and film. Sadly she died on 1st August 2015 whilst on holiday in Estepona. Cilla was one of many English/British female power house voices of that time along with Shirley Bassey who is Welsh 🏴 Lulu who is Scottish 🏴 and Dusty Springfield 🏴 Helen Shapiro 🏴 Dusty Springfield 🏴 and Marianne Faithful 🏴 ALL brilliant artists and ALL worth checking out and who I’m proud to say are from Britain 🇬🇧
Gosh Amber has learned so much and has such an instinctive understanding of things! It's so fun to follow along. And she predicted everything in the beginning and it all came true in this song!
Sandie Shaw, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Lulu, (60s) . Other great Cilla songs are 'Surround Yourself With Sorrow', 'Alfie', 'Step Inside Love' and 'Liverpool Lullaby'.
This is one of the classic songs of the 1960s. I absolutely love it and also your reaction. If you want to try a classic song from the 1970s have a listen to Helen Reddy's song - I Am Woman.
Cilla definitely has an unmistakable voice for sure, always loved this song and was one of my dad's fave too. Another singer you could check out that you haven't reacted to before, the Welsh singer Iris Williams singing a song called "He Was So Beautiful" from 1979, I think you'll love her unique voice too. 💖
I was 9 when this song first played on the radio in 1964 and instantaneously loved it. The power and emotion in her voice impressed me. Even hearing it now 60 years later it still packs a powerful punch. She was born to sing this song. "You're My World" is a cover of the Italian ballad originally recorded in 1963 as "Il mio mondo" ("My World") by Umberto Bindi, who co-wrote the original version with Gino Paoli. Subsequently, an English version was commissioned, and the lyrics were written by Carl Sigman as "You're My World".
Times were better with "Our Cilla"..girl next door with a lovely personality who laughed with the audience and knew when not to be to showy and "look at me camera". . Everyone loved Cilla in the UK . She was full of fun. Nearly forgot ..she had a wonderful voice. Wonderful song produced by George Martin of the Beatles. Cilla was only slight in stature, but a big presence on stage. I was upset when she tragically died. You felt you knew Cilla personally. Great reaction. Glad to see you back Jay!.
Cilla was born Pricilla White in Liverpool. she was a friend of the Beatles and worked as the coat check girl in the famous Cavern Club where the Beatles (and occasionally Cilla) performed. She was also managed by Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin. Her first record Love of the Loved was written for her by the Beatles but was only a minor hit. The follow up was a cover of the big US Top 10 hit by Dionne Warwick- Anyone Who Had A Heart- written by Bacharach & David. It was her 1st No1. Bacharach wrote and produced Alfie especially for Cilla. This is the 2nd of her 2 UK No1s- both hits in 1964. She failed to break big the US despite a big push and an appearance singing this song on The Ed Sullivan Show. Cilla was the first woman to be given her own big budget Saturday Night Variety Show in the UK launching in 1967- Paul McCartney wrote the theme song- Step Inside Love. She had a wacky northern Liverpudlian humour and a thick accent- she was a natural for TV and she became a major TV fronting a number of successful big shows up until the 2000s. Cilla was one of the UK s biggest stars. She died a few years back when she fell at her Spanish Villa. After her death Cilla achieved her one and only No1 album on the UK chart when sales of her Greatest Hits spiked. It was a fitting tribute to well loved entertainer.
Cilla was the cloakroom girl at The Cavern club. often, when the bands had finished the spot, they would invite people on stage to sing. Cilla was one of the girls that would get up and belt out a tune. Her name was Priscilla White back then.
"You're My World" is a cover of Italian ballad originally recorded in 1963 as "Il mio mondo" ("My World") by Umberto Bindi, who co-wrote the original version with Gino Paoli. I remember this song in Italian
Cilla Black has an awesome voice, and an amazing range. A Liverpudlian too. Amber you look awesome you are getting more beautiful and I love how the music affects your soul. Bless you and your familt
Five star celeb, So many songs, so many, this was the biggest selling song of the Sixties in the UK, used to work in the Caven Club home of the Beatles, there was a great mini series about her, she was named Pricilla White,
The orchestral arrangement is by Johnny Pearson, who eventually had his own orchestra. The Breakaways and Bobby Willis provided backing vocals, Judd Proctor was lead guitarist, and Kenny Clare was the drummer. Like many George Martin records of the period, this was done at Abbey Road Studios, on April 3, 1964.
AWWWW - CILLA BLACK!!! WOW!! I always thought Cilla was just SO STINKIN' CUTE, yet CLASSY!! She was friends with The Beatles!! Oh, Jay: I'm WITH YA!! LOVE me some DORIS DAY!!! Ya'll should check out some of her movies!!
I loved her sense of humour doing the royal variety performance in her 60's with Barbara winsor and Paul O'Grady dressed as his drag persona lily savage doing the song you got to have a gimmick from the musical gypsy.
The original version of this song is titled Il mio mondo by Italian singer Umberto Bindi . Cilla Black: Her version reached number one in the UK, Australia, and South Africa. The most successful version of this song in the USA is by singer Helen Reddy who recorded the song in 1977 becoming Helen's last major hit single in the US.
You want more great 60's girls? Try Lulu singing "Shout" (there are many more hits from her but it's a great intro. Lulu hailed from Scotland and she was a bonny wee lass with a HUGE voice!
Beautiful Cilla, besties with the Beatles and managed by their manager Brian Epstein, loved by the UK until her death. There is a gorgeous statue of her in Liverpool. ❤
Our fabulous Cilla started out as a ‘Cloakroom assistant’ ( checking the customers’ coats in and out for concerts at Liverpool’s ‘The Cavern’ nightclub)! That’s how she met the guys who became ‘The Beatles’….! They became incredibly close friends and, as their careers rocketed upwards, they introduced Cilla to many of the other new musicians and singers ( UK and US) with whom they were hanging out! Cilla remained a British icon, still making TV appearances, until her tragic death, aged 72 - everyone, of all ages, loved her!!! A true Liverpudlian Treasure…🙅♀️🩷🤗🫶
Villa Black had a tv show back in the late 60,s early 70,s and later hosted a good few shows including Blind Date . A long career and a loved British icon
Those girls in England from the sixties were awesome and whoever wrote the songs, wow!! Pet Clark, Dusty Springfield, Lulu, so many more! 🥰
@sherry. Tony Hatch wrote most, if not all, of Petula Clark's hits. 😊
Don't forget Don Black and John Barry.
Paul McCartney wrote for Cilla so did John Lennon. The Beatles shared the same manager, Brian Epstein, before his death and the brilliant Sir George Martin produced The Beatles and Cilla's music.
Agree 1000%.
✌️❤️👍🎶🎶🎶

She went too soon, even at 72, RIP Cilla.
Thanks for that! I'm glad she was so successful. She isn't remembered as much as a singer as others from the era and she deserved to be.
She was “Our Cilla”
Do you remember when she resigned live on air before being forced out with changes she didn't want? It was a special live edition of Blind Date. I think you might find it on UA-cam. 🙏
@@BuddyBoy68 Yes I do, even the producers didn't know she was going to resign live on air.
She wasn't just a friend of the Beatles. She had the same manager they did. She was the only female artist managed by Brian Epstein.
I'm old enough to remember hearing this on the radio before it was an oldie.
Thank you for the nostalgia and memories!
No autotune, just pure power and passion. ❤
The next Cilla Black song you should react to is "Step inside Love" which was written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles. Brilliant song!
I really enjoyed that biopic. So much rang true of the time, particularly the ending with the phone box (which isn't a spoiler lol).
I recently saw something about a new biopic about Epstein that was advertised with a post on Cilla's fan page on Facebook. I think that one is only available in the UK on Amazon Prime. I've tried searching for it and can't find it anywhere.

Cilla singing Alfie is amazing 😊
Cilla and Burt Bacharach recording Alfie ❤❤️🎙👏👏👏

Dionne Warwick’s version is the best
Good suggestion Cilla's version of Alfie (Song by Bacharach & David)

Apparently, Cilla was sort of discovered by Paul McCartney while Cilla worked in the cloakroom at the cavern. Unfortunately, Cilla passed away after a fall at her Spanish home.
She was a mate of Ringo's first.
John Lennon introduced her to Brian Epstein
Love this era of female singers
Dusty Springfield (You Don't Have To Say You Love Me), Leslie Gore (It's My Party), Petula Clark (Downtown), Brenda Lee (I'm Sorry), Etta James (At Last), Vicki Carr, (It Must Be Him), Shirley Bassey (I Who Have Nothing) to name a few. There are so many more.
Her vocals were criminally underrated.
Amen. Americans just did not understand her singing at all. She was a powerhouse and we did Not get it at the time.
Another much neglected but highly talented English singer is Elkie Brooks. She had several hits which included "Pearl's a Singer", "Lilac Wine", "Fool (if you think it's over)" and "Sunshine after the rain".
Yes I have requested them a couple of times to listen - here's hoping!
Her brother was in Billy J Kramer and the Dakota's, Tony Mansfield.
She was a real 'rock-chick' in the band Vinegar Joe, alongside Robert Palmer!!
Love Lilac Wine , just going to listen now.
I saw her in Manchester earlier this year. She is still amazing despite her mature years!
Thank you for reacting to Cilla Black. Very much overlooked artist. The voice is like listening to a broadway play. The control is impeccable.
About a year before she recorded this she was working as the cost check at the cavern club where the beatles played. That's where she was discovered, and how quickly she became a star.
Another great British female singer to check out is Sandie Shaw. Check out her songs "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "Girl Don't Come."
Yes, please consider Sandie Shaw. I like 'How can You Tell Him' and 'Long Live Love', too.
Oh...you finally got to this one. Isn't she great!

Oh, so love this song by Cilla. 🕊☮

Dusty Springfield had so many hits!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!
In the UK in the 60s the four top solo female singers were Cilla, Dusty, Sandie Shaw and Lulu. all great
Cilla had two number ones and ten other records in the top ten not bad when the Beatles where at the top of their game amongst others.
“Step Inside” is a wonderful Cilla Black song,as is her cover of “Alfie”..awesome.
Hers was the original, not a cover.
Cilla's version of Alfie was the original and released before Alfie to promote the film but the song wasn't in the British release of the film. The song recorded by Cher was included in the film for the American release, then covered by Dionne Warwick.

It wasn’t until later when I bought a CD set of the British Invasion that I heard her for the first time with this song. If you’re interested, there’s a mini-series about her on Prime called “Cilla”. I thought it was very good
simply stunning- enough said.
Nice to see you both back looking happy x
Amber’s reaction to this song reinforces how much of a gift she is to Jay! She has all the feels!
“Our Cilla” is a national treasure, she was a force to be reckoned with for most of her life. She was/is very much loved and sadly missed. RIP Cilla.
Amber you have the most beautiful expressions!!!😘😘😘👍👍👍
Gosh Amber has learned so much and has such an instinctive understanding of things! It's so fun to follow along. And she predicted everything in the beginning and it all came true in this song!
What a great performance_____________one of the great songs. You two are really good, the best.
Great song by Cilla, in those days many artists did songs sung by others, this song was also sung by Elvis and Tom Jones, all three great versions.
Cilla was a fantastic artist.
Wow! Sich a beautiful voice!
Cilla is an icon ♥
Sandie Shaw, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Lulu, (60s) . Other great Cilla songs are 'Surround Yourself With Sorrow', 'Alfie', 'Step Inside Love' and 'Liverpool Lullaby'.
Haven't heard this song in decades. Such a powerful voice needs to be more prominent on today's streams or radio.
☕️☕️🎶🎵🎶
This is one of the classic songs of the 1960s. I absolutely love it and also your reaction. If you want to try a classic song from the 1970s have a listen to Helen Reddy's song - I Am Woman.
I've never heard of her and I was a teenager in the 1960's. What a voice!!! Take a look at Joni Mitchell's music. She was fabulous.
Are you American???? Perhaps that’s why!
Glad to see you back Jay!.
hi guys great reaction love this song classic!!!😍
When I was 4 years old I was in love with Cilla. My parents even bought me the best of album that was in the montage.
Hello from England 👋
Absolutely fantastic song.
There is a statue of Cilla Black outside what was the Cavern Club in Liverpool
Cilla was the cloakroom girl at The Cavern club. often, when the bands had finished the spot, they would invite people on stage to sing. Cilla was one of the girls that would get up and belt out a tune. Her name was Priscilla White back then.
Similar, Marc Almond, Soft Sell, cloakroom attendant at the Warehouse in Leeds
"You're My World" is a cover of Italian ballad originally recorded in 1963 as "Il mio mondo" ("My World") by Umberto Bindi, who co-wrote the original version with Gino Paoli. I remember this song in Italian
Ah ha! I thought this sounded very Italian. Thanks for that info.
Cilla Black has an awesome voice, and an amazing range. A Liverpudlian too. Amber you look awesome you are getting more beautiful and I love how the music affects your soul. Bless you and your familt
Five star celeb, So many songs, so many, this was the biggest selling song of the Sixties in the UK, used to work in the Caven Club home of the Beatles, there was a great mini series about her, she was named Pricilla White,
I love this pair. They are so good. Love the way they appreciated what they listen to. So good!!
Check out Alison Moyet singing one her songs' Anyone who had a heart'
Really interesting arrangement with so many different sounds coming in and out over the course of the song.
If I thought you' d ever change your mind. Probably the most beutifull ballad of the 60's.
I remember the English female vocalist they were exceptional, and Cilla was right there with them… I remember this song like it was yesterday😊😊😊😊
Villa Black had a tv show back in the late 60,s early 70,s and later hosted a good few shows including Blind Date .
A long career and a loved British icon
