- While Stephen A. Smith has no issue with Shaquille O'Neal being memorialized with a statue outside of the Staples Center, he has a problem with the amount of statues being built around the arena for past L.A. superstars.

De la Hoya is the only one that doesnt belong there
I thought you were joking at first and just saying some ridiculous name, I can't believe he actually has a statue out there
Lol I forgot his dumb ass is there. I love taking my yearly picture next to chick hern statue doh. His voice is the first thing I think of when I think of the lakers
he 100% deserves it. guy won 3 straight titles and elevated the lakers organisation even further up the Rankings of the greatest teams
Dave jahoer him and kobe!!
The argument is whether 7 seasons is enough to enshrine one.
Nicholas Carruth Kobe was Shaqs sidekick for the 3 ofthem
Kobe got 6 for LA
*5
He's right, the more statues there are the less it is special to have a statue
Wayne definitely deserves a statue in LA, he put hockey on the map in Los angles and made hockey popular
They should make a statue of Kobe throwing the alley oop to Shaq
M40 Sidekick yea wouldve been amazing if they did a joint one
Nah that woulda been a slap in the face to Kobe
hows it a slap in the face? I think it would be symbolic cause some dumb people think Kobe didnt pass the ball
Mike Quigley no it wouldn’t be because it’s the most iconic play during there duo
whole27 kobe averaged 5 assist pregame that’s good for a SHOOTING GUARD
Wayne gretzky made hockey popular in California, SAS needs to learn to respect the great one
youknowwhyimhere I agree
youknowwhyimhere b I don't watch or follow hockey and I 100% agree with u
Not just California, but outside of Canada. If you look at the NHL before Gretzky was traded, it was Canadian team dominated. Gretzky's move to LA, made hockey spread to other sun belts. If you look form 1988-present, NHL has been mostly American team dominated. Its all because of Gretzky - it made other superstar players want to play for non-Canadian teams.
MidNiteR32 it's because Canada only has 6 teams. The US always had more American teams than Canadian. Even when it was the original six Canada only had the Canadiens and Leafs. Now we have 7 teams and the US has 24. That alone means the US had better odds to win the cup. Besides when a US team doesn't do well the NHL leaves the team in place. If a Canadian team isn't doing well the League finds US ownership and then sells them. They took Winnipeg and Quebec City and found them US owners. Arizona still loses money and is left in place. Atlanta was losing money for ages before they finally allowed it to be moved to Winnipeg to become the Jets.
Double standard. Allowing teams that can't sell tickets to remain in US markets where no one cares about hockey meanwhile Quebec City wants their team back or another Canadian city could support a team.
NovaScotiaNewfie Do you wonder why no one even bothers to show up for Arizona games? Have you seen their team. They have not had much success. Other Sunbelt cities are very successful. You're just cherry picking to fit your narrative. Hockey can work anywhere if the market is right and they have a decent team behind them. Why should Qeubec get another shot. It didn't work last time.
Also you misunderstood what I was saying. From the 50s-80s the majority of the cup winners were Montreal, Toronto, Oilers. Look what happened right after Gretzky was traded. Oilers last cup was 90, Habs in 93. That was it. It changed the landscape of the game. I'm not talking about there are more American cup winners; I'm talking about there are more players wanting to play for American teams instead of Canadian ones. It's also shown they play better when they are not playing in Canada.
Stephen A took a giant L on this one. Wished u showed Max's rebuttal. LA is one of the greatest sports towns in the nation and the reason those champions + Chick Hearn got statues is cuz of the stories that came from their careers in LA.
he absolutely deserves a statue. he put the Lakers on the map again, won an MVP in a crazy dominant season, took his team to 4 finals on won 3 (won MVP in each win) and he dominated everyone on the court. he was pretty much unstoppable.
Shaq was the MAIN reason for the lakers winning three straight rings, he bull dozed San Antonio time and Tim again and won 3 finals MVP's whilst doing it, he deserves the statue before anyone besides Magic
Not before Kobe has his statue built...
Liberty City El you a lie shaq lead lakers to 3 rings 3 finals MVP while Kobe was on the roster so therefore shaq deserves it before Kobe
Liberty City El Kobe couldn’t win without Shaq or Gasol. Over-rated.
Adam Hupp Jordan couldnt win without pippen, overrated. LeBron couldn't win without 2 all stars. The point I'm trying make is hating Kobe and not be objective gets u no where in life
Adam Hupp One man can win games, but one man can't win championships, all of the NBA championship winners, their has been at least two superstars on that team
Adam Hupp they wouldn’t win shit without Kobe. & also gasol didn’t do shit
This is a rhetorical question he deserves it he won 3 championships and helped make the lakers one of the greatest teams of all time
Andy Lazo ummm no, 1996 bulls are the goat hands down.
rapinbatches 11 months late, but "one of"
I loved Shaq during his Laker years but c'mon man, Kobe deserves a statue before Shaq..
wrong shaq and Kobe have equally done the same amount of work for the Lakers if anything they both need a statue and kobe just retired he'll get one eventually.
the work is not the point its the time kobe stayed that is
alex palmer that makes no sense Udonis Haslem played with the heat his whole career does that mean he's going to get a statue before Wade? No.
Big Bucks your comparing an average player to an elite. both Kobe and shaq were elite.
Shaq got his statue first for the same reason he got into the hall of fame first... he retired first. That's all it is. Kobe's statue is coming.
Whats wrong with bumping into statue's?? Those are legends! Its like wlaking with legends frozen in time!
Love, Love, Love SHAQ ! I just recently listened to them on the Art of Charm podcast.
There are several players that deserve statues around the NBA. Arguably Steve Nash in Phoenix and Reggie Miller in Indiana. But certainly Dwyane Wade in Miami, Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas, Allen Iverson in Philadelphia, Tim Duncan in San Antonio, LeBron James in Cleveland, and of course Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in Los Angeles.
That's why the Lakers are the best franchise in the NBA. You don't get that type of love in some other teams.
Make The Lakers great again that's cause not other teams have that success num nuts lol
Make The Lakers great again They're the saddest franchise...big market...still losers.
04mzwach Saddest Franchise with 16 NBA Championships and some of the greatest NBA players in history? Lmao okay
Lavar Ball needs a statue ASAP.
Why not give Shaq and Kobe a statue together? Make it Shaq pointing to Kobe after that dunk. Most legendary duo ever.
MJ got it for his 3peat/3finals MVP’s. Shaq did the same. He deserves it. The rest of them are already there. It’s stupid to make a controversy out of it at this point.
this shouldnt be a question
Naw, let it go his legacy is already written in stone.
So SAS mentions Wayne but can't even be bothered to learn he came to LA from Edmonton. Could have at least learned that much as part of his statement.
The tragedy of the common. The easiest way to reduce the value of anything is to make it ubiquitously available. A statue was called for in the case of Michael Jordan because he took basketball to a level not previously seen. Perhaps also appropriate for Kareem and Magic. Hakeem Olajuwon played the center position like no other before him. He gave basketball "the dream shake". Kobe was an astounding player but I am not sure what he contributed to the game that bears his name. Neither did Shaq. If everyone who is anyone gets a statue to his name, then statues would not mean anything anymore.
Can you imagine a equipment manager statue!
They should have put a few statues up of several players
Hopefully max Kellerman and the group grow old on the show together. They're all amazing . I wouldn't mind a max k, Molly, Steven a, and Marcellus show either. That'll be like the 00' 01' lakers right there lol
I'm a Lakers fan n i agree shaq is already a legend with no statue
Them gonna have 2 statues of Kobe , #8 in his afro & #24 in his regular baldhead lol .
shaq definitely deserves a staute. he was the best player on the greatest nba team of all time.
Ulysses De Leon greatest team of all time? Lol
yea I'm not going to say best team all time. Love Shaq though.
I’m not saying they’re the greatest team of all time but the 2001 Lakers swept through the West and AI took one in the Finals. They went 15-1 in the postseason! The only other team to do better was the Warriors this past year.
I’d match that 01 squad with almost anybody and like my chances.
Ulysses De Leon those Lakers can beat any team..
shaq deserves a statue in every single nba city for services rendered
WoW, I can't believe I actually agree with Mr. Smith.
Yes point blank
I thought you already had one outside of Staples Center😕
If Rocky Balboa had his statue removed then Oscar Dela Hoya definitely needs his removed.
nop
Can we see a statue of both of them reaching for an nba trophy with angy faces?
They should make a statue of Kobe on Shaq’s back
SAS don't be DISRESPECTFUL to wayne gretzkey.
bruh im dead why the hell is this even being talked about this is why i watch undisputed
How many will this be?
Wayne Gretzky is the best to ever play in his sport and farthest from 2nd place in his respective sport than any other professional athlete in their sport. SAS needs to stop being disrespectful
yea shaq played for too many teams to have a statue...and its too soon. Retired Jersey is about all..but its gotta be Kareem or Kobe.
If Shaq could make two shots from the free-throw line then yes he deserves a statue
its called sarcasm NIMROD!!
No
Shaq lead lakers to 3 rings and 3 finals MVP he the best player since magic Johnson..Kobe had a overrated career as for as playoff and finals his stats are normal nothing we will remember
Instead of statues do like we did at YANKEE STADIUM give the players Steven A. Named busts like they do for HALL OF FAMERS.
I think James Worthy should have a statue long b4 Shaq did
Yes!!
absolutely not he only play 8 years with the team man
This question is offense to Shaq. Of course he does!!
3peat was worth $120million
SHAQ WON Kobe his first 3 chips.......
cowboys fans are so dumb
Knicks and their fans are trash !
Shouldve known a Romo fan making no sense!! you must have overheard your brother talking sports... Kobe and Shaq was a duo plus Kobe did more for the Lakers. They both desserve one but Shaq did not carry Kobe. Two rings to one tells me thats a myth that Kobe busted
@@josecastanon3083 oh cool!! Another person that didn't watch Shaq's 3 peat. Please go look at the numbers again including the 1st chip where he averaged 38 vs Kobe's 15ppg. Oh and btw, Shaq's the only player in NBA history to win finals MVPs 3 years in a row. Have a seat & please stay in school!
From a player standpoint yes. From an ego perspective, no. Shaq has an unquenchable ego that reaches to the end of the universe and back.
Tupac deserves a statue at house of blues in LA
Gretzky The Only Hockey Player I Know
LéSane the goat mans stats are untouchable then and now. Check it out. 220points per season players now luck to get 100
SA FENNA RIGHT ON THIS
Stephen A argues that Peyton Manning didn’t deserve one.. Fuck me
Think wayne gretsky deserves statue before shaq wg put hockey on map...but jirdan the og statue holder all others following his trend...jordan done so much for basketball nba need to switch jerry west as symbol of nba
Magic deserved one before Shaq and Kobe..
Make room for Kobe
Stephen A being a hater. In fact alot more people need statues there.
Kobe deserves one before shaq
I agree with Gretzky and De La Hoya. They shouldn't be there.
HipHopR&BLover Jon Gretzky made people in LA go watch hockey games. Before he came they couldn't sell out. He deserves to be there for that alone. Hockey wasn't considered a legitimate sport there before he came.
Gretzky didn't do shit with the kings lol
Wow you all are fucking stupid
You're a dumbass. He took them to their first Stanley Cup Final in 1993. He won the Art Ross 3 times in LA, and the Hart trophy once with them. He took them to the playoffs 8 straight years at a time when they weren't making the playoffs. He did alot for the Kings. He expanded hockey outside of Canada.
Learn some history and facts before you spew out bullshit.
Gretzky needs one in Canada
we had a big discussion about this yesterday. ..every laker that has a statue outside of staples center played for the lakers there in tire careers acept kareem he spent 1 year in millwakee before being traded to lakers...shaq was a great laker but he dont deserves no statue
ted woods he was in Milwaukee longer than 1 year...
He was in Milwaukee wayyy longer than a year bruh and shaq one the Lakers 3 championships being finals MVP for all three he is a MVP with the lakers a scoring champion etc... He definitely deserves a statue.
The only Laker who deserve a statue is Lonzo Ball, after all he is and always will be the Goat, every other Laker that was mentioned us a huge joke.
shaq is a laker..4ever not a heat
kobe next
No no and no. He wasn't a career laker and and didn't spend enough time there
Answer: No, nobody deserves a statue.
Sas talking shit about nhl..... The nhl is the most competitive pro league. Nashville last year 8 seed upset top teir teams. Basketball baseball boring we know what teams will be doing good. Hockey has to player bullshit making super teams. Just even playing feild.
God damn it Stephen A Smith, just
stop, please. for the interigty of the sporting world, just stop.
SHAQ is one of the most overrated players in the NBA. He basically was allowed to offensively foul people without getting the call. He leads the league in no statistical categories. Yet he wants to be called the most dominant center of all time GTFOH. If they allowed Wilt to get away with bully ball he would be the most dominant center of all time.
222222e same with kobe
It should be Kobe then that's it next.
Jerry West, Magic, ChicK Herns, Kobe!
Those are the ONLY Four that deserve a statue in front of Staples! Shaq played for FOUR TEAMS in his career! Kareem won a Championship before LA! (He was made here!) The four I named were LIFERS!!!!! that matters to me, sorry! They were made here, they were Champions here, they retired or passed here! (Jerry Bus arguably deserves a statue as well)
Stephen A is a jealous guy.
I'm not a Big Lakers fan, and I don't know if Jabar, magic ,and wilt have status, but if they don't why should shaq have one ?Is he more special. ?Or is this just based on the opinion of the newer generation once again.
No Bryant doest deserve a statue at all. Over rated. Kawhi MVP. Yeeeh!
Make that Sky Leanord . Yeeeh
