Loved the video Col - makes me want to get back into hang gliding ! I was a regular at Tallows and Lennox Head back in the day when Ian Herd, Vern Middleton and Neil Mersham were still with us. Henk Van Raalte was my instructor. All the best !
Come back, wonderful modern equipment waits for you. Even a single surface like the Piuma will handle super easy, be super safe, and outperform any old wing.
Ian taught me to fly. Byron Bay 1988. He built my first hang glider, which was an Altair 160. The things that I remember from those days; Coorabell (never flew it). It's best when the kids don't get the kids cookies confused for the adult cookies. Shout out Amy/Amie! I still laugh about that one. G'day to Mango if you're still around. Who was that Peter guy from NZ who worked in mining? Ian Hird lives on in my memories.
I think you're referring to one of our Kiwis ( hi Mike), Bruce, who enjoyed his Coopers and eventually rented a cabin near a mountain launch. " Hirdy" was well known in most hg circles..
Thanks for sharing Col - you old hippie! Took me back to my training with Ian in the eighties. If I recall correctly the course was $120 including snacks (cookies)! That was an experience!!!

I flew a hang glider into a hill in east Sussex breaking my right arm aged 16 in 1977 just in time not to sit my O levels. Happy days.
Some moments in life you wonder what my life would be like if that didn't happen?..
What a classic..was that you at Tallows showing your rating?
