At the Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is almost an identical mirror image of the Disneyland version, except for having an enclosed loading station on a hillside, the replacement of Big Thunder with Tumbleweed, and altered section of layout before the second lift hill.
In this version, upon entering the queue, guests make their way up the hillside past old mining equipment to the station building. Once inside, the queue snakes through the upper level of the two level station. Guests can view a panorama of the ride. The queue then travels down a gradual ramp, switchbacks, and reaches the loading station. After a wait, guests enter the 30-45 passenger trains. On the signal of a flashing green lantern at the head end of the platform, the train is clear to leave the station.
Leaving the station, the trains immediately enter a dark tunnel and make a tight left hand turn. After a short straightaway during which the sounds of bats can be heard, the trains make a slight right hand turn and climb the first lift hill. A series of caverns can be seen on the right hand side of the lift hill track. At the top, once again, it slows down and riders make a drop away to the left, before making a right hand turn and going over two hops while passing under the second lift hill and second lift hill drop. It is typical to make a flyby with another train during this section.
After going under the second lift hill drop (which is a point where it may be possible to see the riders on another train), the trains make a tight downwind spiral to the right into a short tunnel. Emerging from the tunnel, riders find themselves in the abandoned town of Tumbleweed. The Walt Disney World Railroad's track can be seen to the right of the guests. While passing through Tumbleweed, the track goes through several bunny hops, and the train seems to sway from side to side. The swaying is achieved by banking the track slightly. On the left, riders see the wagon of Professor Cumulus Isobar, whose rainmaking machine works too well, and a party being held on the second floor of the flooded saloon. On the right, one sees a remaining resident spinning around in a floating bathtub. In the early years of the ride, the floodwaters in Tumbleweed were much more torrential than they are today.
After Tumbleweed, the trains pass through a short tunnel called Dave V Jones Mine, make a left hand turn, and climb the second lift hill. At the top, the train slows down and the riders drop away to the left and cross back under the lift hill as the trains rise up into a 540 degree downhill helix to the left, before going over another airtime hill before dropping back down. The trains make a right hand turn into a tunnel, and climb the third lift hill. An earthquake is in progress and the rocks seem ready to crush and bury the train. In the early years of the ride, the tunnel exit seemed to collapse with falling rocks. Cresting the lift hill, the trains slow down and exit out into the daylight, and drop away to the left heading for the Rivers of America, before they make a left hand turn through a short tunnel, crossing back over the drop, and then drop away to the right through the boneyard and geysers before hitting the final brake run and returning to the station.
Aw, man. The first time I rode this, I thought there was a drop or two after every lift. Little did I know it was SO FUN! For those who worry about this ride, it has absolutely no dropping feeling and it's great for people who want to have fun but don't like the whole "Stomach flying into the head" feeling.

TheBritishLife when i went on it, magic kingdom was about to close, and the lines were super short because everybody went to see the fireworks. So my family went on it three times, and one of the times the fireworks were going on while it happened! It was beautiful. We got to see the fireworks, and ride the rollercoaster 3 times 😂
The first and only time I went on this was at night, and I already hate rollercoasters a lot. My dad was screaming, “YES! YES!” And I was screaming, “NO! NO! GET ME OFF!” But the fireworks were going off I think

Thunder mountain is an easy ride lol
I feel so sad!! I went to every park at Disney World and rode everything. I was in band at the time back in 2013, we had groups of like 4 and I loved my group, all my best friends! It was an absolutely amazing experience but hit as hell lol. We stayed in hotel rooms, had great food, had so much fun. Got to march in the parade and see the castle at night with all the disney movies. Such a food experience, ill never forget. I wanna cry evrytime I watch these because I wanna go back!:( I am definitley going to try and go this summer! Hopefully it works out. Disney World is so GREAT!!:)

that sounds fun. I had a similar thing, in 7th grade I was in a band class and we got to choose our own groups and go off and it was so fun. I have been to Disneyland so many times because I have annual passes but that time was special because we had more freedom and it was with our friends. Definitely an unforgettable experience.
I loved this ride because we went on it when it started to get dark out and they started the fireworks show. We ended up at the top of on of the bigger incline as a firework went off and it was so worth it!

Here's my story of the first time I rode this.I absolutely hate heights. Going fast, spinning, anything like that is fine, but being high in the air... No.So I was 7 years old, my mom promised to buy my ice cream if I went on it, so of course I agree. We get to the front of the line, and I'm getting more and more anxious. I'm asking the worker there "Is it fast? Does it spin? Does it go upside down?" Etc. Finally, the last question I ask is, "will you go on it with me?" She had to aka her manager and stuff, but finally me and her were in the very front, my mom behind us, alone. I hugged the worker the entire time, screaming and crying. I haven't been on it since then (this was 7 years ago), but my family just got annual passes to it and maybe I'll go on it again and not cry!Also, when I was 4-6 years old, I would scream and cry on the monorail.

Warning: Do not go on this ride with someone bigger then you. The bar lap belt goes over both of you, so if one rider is bigger then the other, the smaller rider will flop all over the place. I went on this with my dad, and I had to hold on for dear life.
Even tho the Jurassic park ride at universal studios Hollywood has the bar thing only wen my husband nd I go it's kinda scary since he's a big guy nd I'm small nd well the bar thin doesn't close all the way so wen we go down I literally feel like imma fall out lol not cool pretty scary actually.

Thanks for uploading this. I rode this ride over 20 times when I was a kid and would never open my eyes in the tunnel because I was scared and thought that we were riding through hell. I’m glad to see what’s actually in there 24 years later

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is by far the most intense coaster at Disney World--the others are all much gentler, even Expedition Everest.
I love this coaster, always been one of my favorites at Disneyland. I have been there at least 25 times in my life and only been on thunder mountain railroad maybe 4-6 of those visits because either the line is extremely long, or the attraction is closed.
Omg! You should've seen the spacemountain line (7-17-19l it was so long, and I'm not going to lie when I say I was infront of atleast 300 people, I was close to the ride, but atleast 300 people were infront of me
Fun ride. That double drop gets me every time on the sec. lift.
For all those saying this ride is boring, if you sit on the back one of the drops makes you stand in your seat!

Thunder mountain....One of the MUST RIDE rides always....Whether you're someone who prefers the wilder the better type coasters or if you don't like roller coasters .....especially because you can sit closer to the front for a milder feeling ride, or near the back for a more intense feel of the climbs, drops and corners. Its a must ride several times every time.

This ride is fun, I am not a thrill seeker at all and I rode this when I was 7 and it is still my favorite ride to this day, I highly recommend this for low-thrill riders.
Okay, here's a tip for all you Magic Kingdom rookies, try your utter best not to go at the front of this ride, the middle is the best. Because the trains are that long it takes time for gravity to start pulling the train down some of the drops etc, so you go slowly down them if you are at the front, then you are quickly pushed along the starts of inclines etc. It sucks.

this reminds me of last month i was at disney and i went on that btm so much this lady even remembered seeing me at least a million times
I rember goining on this ride when i was a kid. it was me and my mom. The roller coaster came to a stop at the section at 2:24 in the video. It felt like we were stopped for an hour! we were at about 30 degrees slanted forward, so we couldn't even sit anywhere. I yelled out "is anyone having fun yet?"
This was like my favorite ride there! I went on it all the time when we were there.

BEST RIDE EVER FAVE AT DISNEYWORLD!! I like how there are no like, gaint drops, only a bunch of small ones. =D I went there this Thanksgiving and I'm going back next Thanksgiving too! I'm already planning and can't wait. Disney has that effect on people.

My sister and I recently went to WDW and since we were a seemingly rare party of 2, we got row 13 almost every single time (and we rode this maaany times). This ride is really so much more fun in the back and at night! I think I prefer the Disneyland one, but I love how this one has the big turn and then the little dip right after that makes you fly up from your seat! Love Big Thunder!!

This ride made me feel a lite motion sickness but I survived every ride even the one that goes backwards just avoid space mt and you should be fine and whatever you do don't close your eyes or look down it makes it so much worse! Have fun

Happy childhood memories! Visited Disney World form the UK with my parents when I was 8 years old (April 1984) Rode that ride to death! Never did like the big drop roller coasters then, this is perfect if you don’t like the big drops.
i hate this ride because my mom forced me on it or else she would call me a chicken so i did and i got that drop feeling, so i literally grabbed on the the black bar, and put my head down to the floor while everybody was watching me, and i threw up. and then, i cried at the end. not the best decision to make when you ride this right after you eat 2 mickey beignets.

THIS RIDE WAS LITERAL ( EAR RAPE !) the entire ride for me, there were two TEENAGE GIRLS MY AGE SCREAMING THE WHOLE TIME! 0:25 is the" bat cave no pun intended" the speakers for the bats scretch was loud and the girls screaming made it even worse... I HATE THAT!

I was thinking the same thing!! Disneyland seems a bit faster, more quick turns, and the new special effects they added recently, make it far superior; However, Disneyworld has more drops on their Thunder Mountain I think.

First ever roller coast i went on when i was small, i was 7 and it was the funnest ride ever. Don’t worry about drops because it truly just feels like your flying thru air super fast, and it didn’t even feel like there were any drops

I love this coaster. Yeah it doesn't have the same thrills as the extreme ones but it has a nice charm to it, and great theming. Not to mention while it doesn't go terribly fast, it is very shifty. Very memorable ride

This is an excellent example of what makes Disney better than other amusement parks, the atmosphere. This isn't a really scary roller coaster, but it is a fun ride and you are not just on a piece of steel out in a field. The atmosphere and theming are excellent.
