Retired dispatcher here. Nice overview but it gave very little detail regarding what we actually do. Once I got hired as a dispatcher I loved it so much that I felt like at that point I quit working for a living. The airline was paying me to do my hobby. Being a dispatcher was a wonderful, wonderful experience.
Which airlines do you work for?
Compass Airlines. Regional that flew for Delta and American. Unfortunately it went out of business in April 2020 due to COVID, one week after I retired.
did you feel comfortable working this job ,they say there is lot of pressure !!?
@@lyeshaouam3228 Some days were hard, especially when weather was bad over a large part of the country bu mainly the stress wasn’t that bad. I enjoyed it.
@@garyodle5663 thank you for the feedback I appreciate I think I will be a flight dispatcher
Best job ever. I taught flying for 4 years.. I was not a military pilot and back then no way an airline would hire me. Then I became an Aircraft Dispatcher. Best job in the world. I jump seated (sat in the cockpit required by the FAA) I saw the world and was paid very well. Pilots see the world however they shlep thru airports, miss kids birthdays.
I was dating a lady who was a dispatcher for Continental, until the United takeover. She loved it but was a very intense job.
Dispatched for Continental back in the 80s and knew many who moved to Houston then to Chicago for the merger.
Thanks for showing the world what we do!

Hi man! Dispatcher here, where do you live?
Where can l study this in USA or Canada? Helppp!!
Study the CARs, TC AIM and FTGU and then wrote the FD Ops and FD Met exams. You can also take a course if you want, but don’t need to. There’s a study guide on the Transport Canada website which will point you to which topics you need to know. It’s a lot of information to digest.
do flight dispatchers do a lot of walking and standing?
Exact opposite. They do encourage you to stand up and move around a bit but the job requires you to be vigilant and both follow flights as they progress and set up flights before they are scheduled to take off
