For everyone wondering why this guy and Ukanlos are "flying" wyverns: They were originally elder dragon class, but then many similarities between their body shape and flying wyverns like Tigrex were found. These guys adapted to remove their wings, as they didn't need them, but they still technically count as flying wyverns as they are found in isolated areas which makes them easier to track and dispose of compared to elder dragons. (also Akantor becomes a lot less scary when you kill him by throwing carving knives at him)
I'm pretty sure they don't, you can still see parts of Akantor's former wings at the elbow (vestigial structures) which made it possible to classify it as a flying wyvern. I don't think Ukanlos has any of those left but it's so similar to Akantor that it has to be a close relative (also flying wyvern)

I loved the caravaneers quest about this thing. I mean, you get a new palicoe and a sns afterwards. And the whole plot about it is also quite interesting.
I remember going through the cowardly felyne's quests with my high rank gear like "yeah, yeah, you're all afraid and junk" Then his quest for akantor comes up and i'm just like "Ooooooh noooooo Well, there's the catch for this quest line..."
Yeah, same with the egg-straction one. "The egg hatched, you say? Oooh, is it a Garuga? A Yian Kut Ku? Something easy? What's a Fatalis.... Oh, nope. It's a dragon."
I know old comment but as far as I know, every Monster that is strong enough to use or manipulate the environement or elements around it it classified as elder Dragon. Kirin is expectional when it comes to call lightning and storm, also it´s super rare, which is also a criteria to be counted as Elder.
Me in first encounter 1.) Plant a fucking shock trap 2.) If plan 1 fails: use pitfall trap 3.) Starts charging like a slow homing missile 4.) Health is at half and I forgot to refill my potions 5.) Start->Abandon Quest->fml

Adamants and High Defense are probably a must, because even one mistake is fatal for me at the moment. Even worse is that I can't use my R button fully on my 3ds for my Long Sword. So I'm practically out of the hunting scene until I replace it.

People only like Uka’s theme because of the first 5 seconds. It’s sooo repetitive and short, though at least it’s frenetic enough. This one on the other hand has this endless brass going that gets your blood pumping and makes you feel like a hero fighting a colossus!
This monster is just...meh...This theme is just...meh...but what makes Akantor such an interesting monster is one of the greatest mysteries I have ever seen...How the Heck is this guy a Flying Wyvern?!?!?!
zero two He and his brother Ukanlos had their wings ripped from their backs. In fact, if you listen to their themes, they kinda display how they feel about their lives. Akantor has an aggressive theme, almost displaying his rage against generally everything, very offensive. Ukanlos, on the other hand, has a calm and collected driving theme that displays that he's just a very defensive creature. I could be VERY wrong about this, but I LOVE putting a story to these two brothers, and how open the game is to telling a tale of your very own.

+Xeno Davi they didn't need flight, the reason why their wings are gone, and look at that webbing in front of their bicep and lower arm, surely that must be something evolution left behind. They don't need any forms of flight, they're apex level predators who are more than capable of taking down monsters smaller than they are, lore-wise Akantors are one of the few creatures that can get rid off Alatreons from their turf. Why would you need flying? You can just smash them

Karina N/A adamants are certainly a must, as one of its attacks causes a defense debuff. When enraged, the thing is a nightmare.
