My old walleye fishing buddy and I have caught 20 plus pounders of these creatures while trolling for bugeyes they'll tear you up. Great fighters

They fight like hell and they are good size. In Salt Water Red and black drum are loved. Never understood why everyone hates them so much. Most under rated fish in the great lakes.

They are fun to catch, good fighters and size. I catch them all the time, problem is when you are hoping for other species and this fish keeps coming up, I catch them every time I go to the pier, spoon, live bait, etc. seems they are the only fish that lives there

Most people consider them a trash fish, but they are actually good eating. White flaky meat. The ancient native Americans prized the fishes drum bones for jewelry.

That is awesome to know!!! Thank for telling me that!!! I did hear it was great eating if cooked properly!!!

I have tried to eat them a few times, but haven't got it right. For the jewelry they have little "stones" in their head I think related to hearing. I have a small collection

We used to kill drum back in the 80’s but since then Zebra muscles have invaded our lakes. Come to find out Sheepshead are one of the only fish that feed on Zebra muscles so please catch and release if your not keeping them.

Never understood why people kill these things. They’re a ton of fun to catch and fight. Plus They’re native to the Great Lakes, and don’t cause any harm to the environment.

@fallengods92 I grew up in the 80's and was told to dispose of them by some of the old guys I was around. They said they were trash fish. Now I know people that eat them. They are really fun to catch, especially the big ones, and they help keep the invasive species in check. I always catch and release them now.
