Hey Fred, great video, love your enthusiasm for DX! We had London booming in here between Christmas and new years day, the long haul contacts are always fun. I have talked to England, Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Germany in recent months, what a blast! It seems most of the operators here call CQ, might help make contact instead of just dropping your call. Hope to make contact with you soon. CQ, DX - CQ, DX, 808 Central Delaware standing by!
We had a fantastic contact to Miranda State, Venezuela South America on 27/12/2021. 27.615 USB. Approx 4,600 miles. We were chuffed to bits with the contact, our longest contact yet.
That was bloody brilliant! You literally took me back to the big skip of the late 80s early 90s there! Got that feeling right back! 😀👍 Made up for you bud!!!
Well done Fred, that was a great clear copy to USA. I had a contact to Australia just before Xmas on the .555. It was flat but I was crossing Halkyn Mountain around 615pm, I just called out prospectively for long domestic checks being flat, nobody came back, but this Australian accent saying he was in Australia. No signal but I got him. I couldn’t believe it, I called back and I said are you in Australia, “yes Australia”! He was too weak to get a call sign sadly. I learnt that if you have the elevation, you can punch into the ionosphere. Never in a million years would I have thought about a contact to Australia, but on the triple 5!! I can’t even get European copies there because of the competition when the propagation is running. All the best Andy. Keep up the vids pal. Excellent.
I like the fact that you didn't just show the qso but also the chase leading up to it. It proves at times the chase sometimes is just as good as the catch 👌
Awesome contact Fred, my noise level is stupid high here in Canada. Hopefully one of these days I'll have a yagi so ill stand a chance to talk to you..
Im about 45 minutes from the Windsor Detroit border. Most of the time 38LSB is the channel for skip. When ive made lots of contacts with the U.K. its usually between 5:30 and 8:00 am. Good luck, hope to hear you out there. 73s 514 Ontario Canada
Congratulations Fred. I am still trying to cross antennas with you guys on the 305 net. Hope springs eternal... It will happen eventually, I am confident of that.
Congratzz Fred whit you first QSO to the States ! Yes that's a nice Guy speak to him on the 1e day of this year and made contacts last year whit him. The longest QSO to the states for me was in 2013 to California and Texas and even got Kansas that year on only a old President Lincoln and 5/8 Vertical whit 150Watts Amp. Max what i worked as QSO Brazil to 3AT282 Beto and Said 22RC102 Frence Guyana and 112PW118 Lebanon also 50SD844 European Russia lot of times. Greetings 19RF1231 locator:JO22HB 73's Fred keep up the nice work there !
Nice one Fred. Just a quick question. It’s an old memory that popped into my head. Have you ever tried talking through a mouth organ on the air. I used to do it and had breakers asking where I got it. I said it’s called a metal mickey thunder buster, you can only buy them in music stores. I think I started a trend
HI Mat. The first part 1-5 is an estimated indication of audio quality. A radio 5 being totally clear and sharp. The 9 part is the peak reading from the signal meter on the radio.
Wait till you copy them on FM dx freq 26.805.. And Australia has been on in some mornings.. From high ground, sometimes strong. Funny how many UK stations come out the woodwork...
Hi Fred enjoying your channel you have got me wanting to get back into radio after many years thinking of a 450 like you got does this set over 11m CBS’s bands or does it have to be modified also what best mobile sub best to buy many thanks john
Hi sir, may I ask if you were transmitting barefoot or are you using a linear amp.? As of the present skips are good, I've made some contacts with Japan & Guam using my Cobra 29 Ltd Classic running 4 watts & a halfwave vertical. By the way I'm from the Philippines.
At what time GMT did you make contact? My new 11-meter attic dipole is perpendicular to East-West. Hoping to attempt skip similarly with old FT-101EE. Keep having fun.
A quick question about my anttan, my Siro 827 has been blown about a bit latterly. And the screws holding up the top section has got larger and it fell inside it's self. So the swr went really high. So I drilled it ant bolted it together I now have a swr of 1.5 on ch 1 and 2 on 40 on the UK forty that is still safe for the radio isn't it ? Thank you
@@CB-RADIO-UK thank you I did try tuneing it down a bit but the grub screw on tuneing tip didn't want to play. I'm going to wait for replacement parts to come in stock at knights and replace them.
I notice from your radio readout, it is set to SWR, not RF out. May I ask how much power you are running? When the bad is open you can work the world on very little power, I have worked into the USA and Europe with a 340 DX running 12 watts pep and a DV27 antenna on the car. It all comes down to a good antenna, and the band being open, but 27 mhz along with the 28 mhz band sometime opens up out of the blue. At the moment we are just climbing out of a Sun spot cycle low, so in the coming months/years the band will open. But sometimes, no one is calling, just like the ham bands, you will not get a contact unless you put out a call. Len G8LXI..
Lady Kate oww yes speak to her in Spring may and jun when the conditions are good for 26,29,168divisions from the Netherlands. Nice woman to speak to and make a QSO, he has also made a QSO whit Sylvia and Ron 104CI200 Corsica Special Napoleon activation event last year they also are very active on 11meters DX .
Nice video, thanks for awesome video posts, and posting this! So amazing to hear you from here. J.C. what's your Zello app ch. name? Some base stations are converting over to online internet controlled base stations, for usage and listening any plans there?
I think upper sideband is more common in the USA because of the convention “Everything above 14 MHz is USB, everything below 14 MHz is LSB”. Of course both are used on CB but hams & ex-hams typically use USB on CB ch 38 (27.385 MHz).
Hi there Fred, I just want you to know that I made an 8,540km contact for the first time with Delta 19 & Mama Charlie from Honolulu, Hawaii all the way here in the Philippines. But this time I used an RM Italy KL300P running around 100+ watts and my antenna is a halfwave Station Master vertical 20 feet above the ground. Congrats on your contact. But may I ask, how many watts are you transmitting with?

Can you explain more about the signal reports - 5 by 9 etc ? As im not sure what they refer to signal wise

Hi John. Straight out of the box the radio will not transmit on CB freq and requires a small mod.
Thanks for getting back to me is the mod easy to do
Hi. No probs. I did not do mine. Just google 450D mars mod. Cheers
Well done mate - what aerial did you use?
Hi. Its a Antron 99 with FireUp top section.

No amp just straight out the back of the radio.

Hi. Yes your still safe. You could certainly bring that down by tuning the antenna. Just keep an eye on it and dont let in creep beyond 2.5

Hi Len. The radio was flat out on this video. Actual transmit power can just be made out on the meter above. The end scale is 100w

I think i was operating on around 70 watts on that video
You got an SWR issue or is the TM999 broken, you were showing over 50watts reflected on the meter
The SWR (auto tune) 1.1 is shown on the 450D signal display. The needle swing on the meter is transmit power.
Zzzz here fred on the south coast
