it's indistinguishable from the original.. if someone hadn't told me if was take on me, i'd be hard pressed to guess it but i'll listen a bit more... i'm ver familiar with this tune so I might guess it a little faster than someone who wasn't as Familiar with it... but it wouldnt be a quick conclusion from me.
I've done this some time ago using vlc-player for down-pitching the sounds of ritual slaughtering vids from yt as source material. I use to listen a lot of dark ambient / drone stuff in general, but the results of these slaughtering vids really scared the fucking hell out of me. soundcloud.com/dampspanning/tracks
@@virusvirus1073 paulstretch is the (free) software used in these edits and is a very powerful, configurable tool. I guarantee you will get better results when using it because it's the least artefacty timestretch at least as far as I know. You can fine tune the duration of stretches and it even has cool features like an octaver. You can extract exact pitches and overtones to create instrument samples. It's just awesome.
Paulstretching can make anything sound like this it's kinda funny. I did it to Gucci Gang and it turned into some nightmare hell speak sound. At times 20 it made it 36 minutes long.
I've never heard of Paulstretch and I think I've seen videos like this when I was in middle school but never fully understood what these are. I always thought they were like a UA-cam Poop thing. But now I know why it's called PaulStretch for a reason.
@@CastrateThePig just read on wiki they actually used the bieber one temporarily during editing but the one used in the final soundtrack was composed and then slowed down... The bieber one was the inspiration though 👍
Im listening to it on the playlist called "Pualstretch faves" and I didnt see the title of this paulstretch and my brain after the first 3 mins was like "wait... is that take on me??", I checked it and was right hahaha
@Schaezen thanks :) the track has been stretched using an application called 'paulstretch', i didn't apply effects or anything. from the website for the app: "It is suitable only for extreme sound stretching of the audio (like 50x) and for applying special effects by "spectral smoothing" the sounds."
@halfofmeis333 Got it, i just checked out that this program is very popular actually :) it's very spectacular. this one is really my favorite, i had never realized how harmonics sounded nice in this track ! :) thx, nice job
wow thx for the idea now its my turn to experiment lol sounds crazy tho i can see many applications for doing this and so funny its almost an hour from 3:45 about haha
@DukeTravers hey, when you click 'open' you need to navigate to an audio file you want to stretch - on my Mac i follow this path: Open>Users>myUserName>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music/A-Ha/take on me.mp3 then i press OK. once the file has been loaded into Paulstretch you can play about with all the settings. to save your stretched version click the 'write to file' tab, then 'Render Selection' and, in the same way as you opened the file, choose where you want the file to be saved to. hope that helps...
Great stuff, halfofmeis33! Take On Me seems perfect for this melodically. Any chance you'd upload the full version? Also, funny that quite a few people got the David Lynch vibe on here - it's also the first thing that came to my mind. Slow close-ups of innocent girl with mysterious, brooding soundtrack foreseeing dark times ahead kinda spell it out. ;-)
Hi & thanks! I don't think I actually exported the whole thing as I didn't have a HDD with enough space on at the time... I seem to remember just watching it in FCP - sorry, though maybe it's time to leave it on a mega-render... Re the Lynch thing - I've not watched any of the new Twin Peaks yet, am saving it ;-) is that what ppl are making the connection with?
To me, the visuals aren't remarkable unless they'd be properly edited, but just rendering out the sound might be really worth it! Imho this has been a stellar choice of yours - I could well imagine listening to this for an hour, with these waves of melody rushing and gushing in and out and the longing melancholy that the original 'Take On Me' has anyway, and that is heightened into this ethereal shoegazing heaven here by yourself. Really great choice and idea!
Great stuff, looking forward! :) As for Lynch: yeah, I guess that particular sound n aesthetics is in Twin Peaks, but you get it in all his movies too. In case you haven't seen Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway yet you should treat yourself to them. The 'Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me' feature film is also great, tho really brutal.
here's the vid: ua-cam.com/video/UL4iZ_L1XZQ/v-deo.html (obviously NOT 'just under an hour long' as I said in the orig description above, but it does the trick).. Yep, i have seen pretty much all Lynch's movies, Lost Highway is high up my list for a re-watch with 800% in mind - cheers!!!
Due to how this program slows down sound a lot of parts end up sounding kinda like ocean waves hitting the shore, maybe this is partly why this is so relaxing to listen to
+halfofmeis333 I will try virtualdub with avisynth sycript for video. Should be working, I hope. I am going to slow down angela merkel new year speech by 800% or something. Guess will sound like zombie. :-O ;-)
Your description says "just under an hour" for the full version, but this is 800% slower. The full song is under 4 minutes. 8*4=32, so what's up? Does it increase the percentage recursively for some reason?
hi, yeah, it's a long time ago I made this... I do think the version I did was really an hour, but I named and tagged it 800% because of the meme... I have since uploaded a full lrngth version: ua-cam.com/video/UL4iZ_L1XZQ/v-deo.html BUT this is only about 25min long... I think the original I did with video took up too much space on my old computer so I edited out a good bit and binned the rest.
ok but 800% slower is 9 times slower than the original, meaning. it would have to be a 1500% slower version to reach an hour. Not super important, but the bad math bothers me
"full version I made is just under an hour long and sounds amazing. Here's 10 mins of it with video". This is what I was referring to. if it was only 800% slower it would not be an hour long as stated. Take on me is not that long of a song that 800% would lead to a hour long.
I was doing this in the 90's using Cubase SX. That had a great time stretch tool. Ahead of my time I guess. Check out the 12" remix "it's called a heart - long version' by depeche mode from 1985.... nuff said - old news
PaulStretch never ceases to amaze me with its black magic f**kery.
some seriously epic unique ambient music can be created like this, it is totally legit in my eyes.

If Brian Eno had released this, no one would have blinked an eye

The quick, easy way to make an art movie. Slow down a music video by 800% and presto, David Lynch!
Douglas Gordon made a whole career out of it. Hope he's donated loads of money to charity and perhaps some Hitchcock memorial fund or sth.
Scot artsy shitstains don't give a "doime" 'til they become multibillionaires, maybe. Didn't know there were worse bullshit artists than in my place.
thats a direct quote from the 9 years it took to make eraserhead, yup
Brilliant, the percussion sounds like ocean waves crashing

I love this..... I found the Aphex Twin Avril 14th track with Paulstretch applied.... it's out of this world.
