Thanks for the great video! I showed your video to my dad and he thinks you're amazing too. My great-grandfather was a lot like you and built swings (and homes 😊) all over our town. He built the biggest swing overlooking a lake; it lasted until decades later when a tornado went through the area. We made a plaque memorial to him out of the wooden seat. I have it in my home today.
This video is awesome! It reminds me of when I built a tree swing for my kids last summer. We followed a similar technique, making sure everything was super secure, and it’s been their favorite spot ever since. There’s something magical about simple outdoor fun! Speaking of outdoor activities, I recommend checking out my favorite pickleball gear at Volley Llama for even more fun in the sun!
You missed the ultimate best kind of all! As a child, in my backyard there was a tree that, from the base to about 10 feet off the ground, grew at a 45 degree angle. About 5 feet above the bend where it went from 45 degrees to vertical, I attached a rope. Swinging away from the tree, there was the usual long pendulum motion, but when the rope hit the tree, I could pump with my legs (I stood on the loop at the bottom)and the sudden truncating of the length of the pendulum increased my velocity rapidly, the thrill was exhilarating. Somebody please build one of these and let me know how much fun you have.
This is awesome! I just built a pretty cool swing on on oak tree off a hill, but have been looking for a most intense swing and I think I found a spot. It's gonna be huge.
What is the maximum height with a two rope swing that a person can pump themselves? My limb is 23’ from the ground. It is close to horizontal. I did not off set the ropes like you do so one of my ropes is about an inch longer. I used a bowline knot with a Scott’s stopper knot and then duct taped the tails of the rope. Then put the other end of the ropes through the loop and pulled them around the branch. I just can’t seem to get it going very high. I also built a swing out of lumber and chain that is 9’ off the ground and I seem to be able to get this one higher off the ground, but of course the arc is shorter. I was wondering the physical limits of a person being able to swing, but I think that movement of the branch, stretching of the rope, and any unevenness of rope length further reduce the maximum swing potential. My 9’ swing is very sturdy and solid and of course the chains don’t stretch. So I’m wondering if this is the reason it swings better or is the arc on the 23’ swing just beyond the physical limits of body weight being able to power it. I’d love to learn more about those physics and if there are any tricks to gain additional height. Thanks!
I have one tall Douglas fir. I have been searching for a way to make some sort of artificial limb (something like 3 boards in the shape of a triangle on each side with a beam across the middle point to hang my hammock swing off of.) I dont want to hurt an guests and have no experiences building such a thing. Id love some guidance.
So I read polyester ropes do not degrade in sunlight while polypropylene does. Do you recommend polyester? Is 5/8” plenty strong for a two rope swing? What about 1 rope swing....do you go to 3/4? If you go too thick does that prevent good swing action?
Thank you for the great video! Do you ever come out to California or have a recommendation for someone who could do what you do? I have 2 tall pine trees that I want to create a "Y" swing on. I don't have tree climbing experience or the tools to drill holes through each trunk. IF you are ever out in Santa Cruz County I would gladly hire you to install one :)
That would be neat. I build tree houses and rope swings. Crazy because my wife tells me everyday that I should make it into a business but I felt a little embarrassed or it seemed petty/immature. Just stumbled upon this video and really admire it. Have built hundreds of swings, tree houses, and swings that go into lakes or ponds (rider lets go and falls into water). Ranging from swings for children to adults only. Ones into water take a lot of planning and math/physics. Can be very dangerous. But they’re my favorite. Would love to help you with a tree house! God bless
Any method of anchoring a tree swing does harm to the tree. For me it is a matter of finding the least harmful method that the tree can recover from quickly. A well-installed tree swing does not affect the longevity of the tree, and it can provide memories and joy for generations. And a fun and safe tree swing can guide humans to appreciate, notice, and treasure trees to a greater extent. That is my vision at least and it resonates with those that reach out to me.
This is really cool and my Son will love it. You can also choose to buy the components of the wood tree swings separately, make your own swing, or purchase a set that includes the seating, the rope/chain, and the other accessories and attachments needed for mounting. We tried to check at treeswingstore.com and they have all we've needed.
I love that you don’t let your sharing of knowledge get in the way of your business venture. Bonus points for being an arborist!

I’m dizzy watching this lol what a great video.
Terrific video - informative and entertaining
Thanks Kenneth
Thanks for your video it really helped me decide which kind of swing I want to try.
You are a legend. Keep up the good work!
Love the video! For a V swing, how long do you recommend the eye bolts that are screwed into the tree need to be? 4-6 inches?? Thanks!
You need to move to New Jersey. I would love to get a tree swing installed.
What size ropes and materials are you using? That would help A LOT!
Best video ever
Have you ever done anything with hammocks?
Patrick's videos are super helpful. He has even personally given me advice about my amateur attempts to make a safe and fun swing! Visit his website.
This is really cool. Wish you were on the west coast!
Would you come out if there were several installs for you and the flight was paid for?

I like so much to sit on a swing 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
These are so cool! Do you know of anyone in Maine who does this kind of work??
Any idea if I have just one tree 50 feet no ladder lol searched everywhere and I can’t be drilling that high
Do you know anyone who does this in the Pacific Northwest? Especially Portland area?

you also install them, how can I get in touch with you
Wish you were in tx!
What do I have to do to get you to come to Nashville?
we live in the NW of Washington State, any recommendations of someone like yourself for installing swings like theses?
I recommend hiring the guy in this video
Can you ship them to proxima centauri b?

Hi I live in >Colombia ,I have a big Higueron tree I want to place a swing, can I send you a video, many thanks :)
Does ‘Piedmont tree climbing’ do jobs in California?
Hello I love your work! Do you travel and install swings?
Do you sell the materials to do this yourself?
can you make one without a tree?
We only have gray pine. I don’t think it will be strong enough.
If you have any experience with tree houses I'd be interested in a video like that.

Where do you live?
I'll pay you to install one of these on my property.
🚴
Nice swings, but I personaly don't like seeying you making holes in tree-branches. You should put on the swings on a tree-friendly way.
What way do you imagine that to be? Hole through the branch is the least invasive and safest method for both man and tree.
Less than 50$ per year? How many years does these things last lmao
