While I was dismissive of Twisted Sister almost all my life, these recent years I've come to appreciate them so much more. Shame it took 40 years to realise how good they are.
word
I totally agree with you. I didn't understand how great they were in those days though I was a metal boy in the 1980s.I finally realized how exciting they were.
because the production of the records was flattening: the raw live rock n roll energy did is not expressed in their studio album
The problem with Twisted Sister was they were a lot like Kiss... you couldn't get the rawness of how good they were from their studio albums you had to see them live to get it...
Exactly, I saw them live not so long ago and I realised that "What you don't know..." is one hell of a banger to kick off a gig. They pack a lot more power and speed live, especially that song. I just never saw them live so I didn't have any idea they had that "punch". @@friotaiocht101
No one notices Eddie’s guitar going out midway through sin after sin and the whole band going as if all they have ever had is one guitar player until he fixes it smoothly. Hell of a group of professionals. Rock and roll hall of fame worthy no doubt
Im 50 and grew up on this stuff. Been listening to metal all my life. Never saw this before. Definitely better than expected. Awesome!,
And holy hell! Lemmy and Fast Eddie!!
And Pete Way!!!
hey Paul I'm 60 and grew up on this stuff. Been listening to metal all my life. Never saw this before either. Agree, definitely better than expected. Awesome!,
Rock on man!🤘
Classic
Man...These guys rocked harder than anybody in the day. Totally underrated band.
Lets exaggerate a bit 🤨
Sister were epic and Dee Snider is legend end of 👊🏽
Este grupo tiene otras canciones de buen nivel no c xq Aka no las sacan
Bloody great 👍
They may have "rocked', but they were shit.
Another case of: "I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it.".
Well said.
The 80s was THE BEST DECADE EVER...THE MUSIC WAS GREAT...THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER 1980's!!!
I MISS THOSE DAYS🤟😢🤟
Me too
You are right sir....😣😣😣
The 80s were legendary.
I’m still there when life was good 🤘🤘🤘
True story my old friend 🙌🏽🤘🏽✌🏽
These guys played heavy metal , hard rock and punk rock. So diverse. One of the greatest bands ever.
When I purchased their first album no one knew who they were where I lived. Two albums later nearly everyone knew who they were. I still consider Under the blade was their best album. So much energy and great songs.
Yep....but stay hungry is call the mtv album.....every band had an mtv album....
I was 14 in Kansas & my brother from Phoenix came to visit & shared this new awesome song. I hadn't even heard. ! ❤
i cant argue it
I am, I’m me, launched em 👊🏽
I'm in the UK, and we only got to see them from the " You Can't Stop Rock'n'Roll" album, but that was it for me - one of my favourite bands for the last 40 years
I was at this gig and he really did wait round the side of the stage after they played
'Cuz that sumbitch is crazy, God bless him.
And everyone shook his hand and begged for autographs and Dee obliged all of them 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Lol and did anyone say they sucked to him
Most underated bassist ever
um, all he does is play the root note, so likely deserving...
@@briankendallRyanandBrian What? Are you deaf, blind AND stupid?

Dee Snider has some uniquely awesome and powerful vocals.

I met one Time JJ French at a Mac Donalds back in 1984 in my hometown. Before a twisted sister show at the old memorial auditorium. He was cool 😎 👌 🇬🇧 1984 I feel old. 🇬🇧
This concert made me appreciate they’re music so much more. They’re live stuff is so much better than the albums; you can’t capture the heavy energy of twisted sister in an album!
*their music so much more
They blew our young minds back in the day believe me, I’m 53 now 🤘🏽
Similar to KISS, their live stuff is even heavier - just far far better than KISS
I was there at Reading, TS had more balls and power than most of the bands that weekend.
This is such a perfect mix! It sounds great. And its undoubtedly all analog. Because its 1982! Pre digital age!
I've seen TS many times back in the late 70,s early 80,s. Being from Long Island, i knew about this band before the world did. I've Never seen Jay Jay so pumped! Dee always is, that's normal! Aj has passed on. Very sad indeed. His drumming is flawless here! Mark the animal is a vital part of TS rhythm section. I love his slappin style! And Eddie seems to never age. He looks almost identical today!
Love this band for their guts and determination. They made it big-time as far as I'm concerned. East coast legends! No doubt.
I'm an SMF and still tear it loose at 55!

@@jaecrowther7869 : Nothing wrong with that......I'm with you on that one!

@@richmcdonald1656 : Yes Sir! I know the place.
I am 49. Grew up on TS and other metal bands. I got a record player and the first record was the can't stop rock and roll single on 45.
I picked up Stay Hungry later on and got stuck redoing a bathroom at 14 years old when we moved in. I only had that one cassette at the time unpacked. For 3 months that is all I listened too. When I got my first guitar 7 years later, I never learned to play by sheet music, but I could play this just by ear. I just played the album tonight to be in fact. King Diamond, Danzig, Motorhead, AC/DC, Slayer, I love it all.
Blessed be those who get to see them in 2023.
Tararenkyou man.
love this show. RIP A.J. Pero,Pete Way,Lemmy and Fast Eddie!
Twisted Sister was the real thing, true heavy metal rock n roll!
Dee Snider is a very underrated singer. Sounds really good here.
Dee Snider is also an underrated actor,,check out Strangeland
Ah the "underrated" 2nd comment is here
Incredible tone and even technically perfect.
Dee Snider "underrated" ?? wtf ? He has NEVER been underrated among the metal heads, everybody knows he is a top singer.
@@besteverepicmillennial5927 could be fun to count all the "underrated" in the comments below almost any song on youtube :)
In the summer of 1982, I turned 11 years old. The TS logo is something I vividly recall drawing incessantly throughout my grade school years, on all my folders and notebook covers while in class. I wanna Rock!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Seven out of eight songs performed are from UNDER THE BLADE studio album. I love this band. RIP AJ.
That's pretty much all they had released at this point in 82.
I love Twisted Sister forever..This was a killer performance-Reading 1982! Besides how energetic and great Dee's vocal performance is and drummer A.J. Pero's(R.I.P.) powerful performance and the crystal clear sound on the drum recording, Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda are riffing and guitar soloing wickedly, and there is a very cool effect on the lead solos that they rarely ever used again, like a very magical sounding delay and stereo chorus. It sounds incredibly good. Mark "The Animal" Mendoza is slamming the bass too and truly playing great..
Under the Blade wasn't even released here.
@@Opuskrokus : Yup. Thats correct. It was about to come out; but only in England. Which is where they are in this video.
However, UTB did get released in the States after they got signed shortly after this festival.

I was at this concert, and entire festival, aged 17 with my mates from Wales. It lives with me today as such a great, great memory - I'm 55 now, still rocking out to this music #teenage #years #metal #shootemdown
Me too at 16, first festival. What a weekend, still living the weekend even now at 54. Guess you’ve watched the movie?
i saw saxon at reading couple of years later
Was my first Reading too
@@Cell1969 where can I view the movie? Thanks!
@@jedw9983 I think I rented it on Apple Movies. But, I think I've seen it on other streaming platforms now, may have been Netflix
Dee Snider shooting a Mac10 on stage during Shoot em' Down is the very epitome of "Rock n' Roll". This is a God-damn masterpiece.
I can see myself and my mates on the barrier at about 39:05.
We waited for hours to be right at the front.
40 years ago... feels like it too..
Back when reading was rock festival🤘 I also think one of the most underrated metal bands of all time
Damned right 👍🏽
I met Jay Jay at a restaurant in Montreal. The band was playing their 40 and f*** It tour, and they had just arrived. He joined a friend and myself and we had a wonderful visit. Super sweet guy! I've ALWAYS loved their music and excellent musicianship. That chance meeting was great fun for me, and I learned a lot about the band
I’m 49. I saw Twisted Sister here in Nashville. 1984. I love the way Dee Snider tells the crowd basically to F off . Then they start liking them. Him. I love Dee he believes in his Fn rock n roll. These songs do rock. I remember all of them . Thanks for the footage. Dam Motörhead !!! F yeah🤘

I can't believe we didn't get a good shot of Lemmy! Those camera men didn't know who they were shooting up there.
Wtf. I was at this and have absolutely no memory of fast Eddie and Lemmy being there 😂

The best band from my childhood!!! Greetings from Bulgaria!!!
Dee Snider, the most phenomenal front man in metal!!! (PERIOD)
Was their that day, saw them a few times. Absolutely brilliant live band. Really knew how to get a crowd going

You cannot be their unless you belong to them.

Was their biggest fan that day.
Was their hair stylist that day.
Was their caterer that day.
Incredible musicianship throughout this. And the uzi just blew my mind.
The finale with Motörhead brought me tears of joy.

it is neat to listen Dee give credit to Lemmy as the English crowd didn't take to TS at all with their looks.
@@waynebrown2546 When they came to Australia they were advised not to wear the glam gear so they hit the stage in black t shirts and blue jeans I was kind of disappointed but the live show was one of the best I've seen

Amazing footage from 1982!
Amazing what control Dee has over the audience and what a confident frontman he is considering they didn't even have a record out at this point. Those non stop shows since 1976 really paid off.
The 'Ruff Kuts' EP was out at the time and they were recording 'Under the Blade' in England in the weeks before 'Reading. So they did have a record deal - but not yet in the U.S.
.. and he and the rest of Twisted Sister stayed out there, and played... especially the first three songs, when people were ignorant enough to literally throw things at them ..and then, suddenly, one of their Roadies made a very sickening, gross, and horrifying, discovery-Somebody had literally taken a dump in their own hand, and literally threw it at the Band, narrowly missing them by inches!!!
The Roadie told Dee about it, and Dee didn't understand what the Roadie was saying at first, until somebody told Dee, that somebody had liter pooped in their own hand, and had thrown it at the band! Dee, understandably, was HIGHLY upset, upon hearing that! He was definitely grossed out, to say the least!!!
Nevertheless, they kept on going, and they won the day!!!
Also love the fact that there is another 5 piece band on stage at same time to deflect/remove thrown objects
Never really realized how hard this tune actually was. Moving into the top 10 of all time.
Big John from The Exploited at 4:22, moonlighting as the guitar tech!
He used to be one of their roadies!
TS was definitely a live band. Just like no pic has ever justified the Grand Canyon, no recording/Album has justified TS music.
they reminded me of 70's KISS in that their studio albums were pretty good but live they kicked severe a$$ !!
Bootlegs. They are recordings and they justify Twisted Sister.
Awesome handle dude !!! I see it to it's bullshit!! 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘
WOW - That Was A Awesome Hard Rock Show 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great band and one of the All time greatest frontmen
They were on fire here! Their determination to impress the record labels at this time is evident. They had literally little to no financial backing here. Under The Blade was a live independent release. And only in England at first.
Twisted Sister earned it the old fashion way. By playing live for years, and perseverance. It's a shame how it all ended for them just 5 0r 6 years later.
Somewhere in the middle of that crowd I was there - I have the Walkman recording i made somewhere upstairs.........no cassette player these days - handy reminder of when Reading rocked
What was the lineup this day? Is it Reading PA ?
I saw these guys at a bar in NJ in 1979. The Final Exam in Randolph. Never heard of them. WOW, different, band played tight, singer had power. I liked them a lot. Was super excited seeing them again at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO a few years later opening for Dio. Always a SMF.
One of my ABSOLUTE favourite live videos out there. The energy, the songs and the ultimate charisma that is Dee f'kn Snider! World's greatest frontman.
This show is just wonderful, legend. ❤
Dee is one of the best front man in Rock also to move like that and sing with this kind of power.
Saw this in UT Iron Maiden, Fastway and Saxxon 1982 I was twelve snuck out the house with my 14 year old bro and we rocked🤟
Fucking A. Eric
So underated fantastic band
We were huge fans of these guys from way back when they played in the clubs in NY, NJ, CT etc in the US. 1980, '81, '82. .It was right before they went over to the UK to play this show and to make their first full album. (I think) We could not wait for them to get back to the states. It was torture waiting. This was way before the internet or even metal being played on the radio. Their club shows were the most intense shows you can imagine. Just picture these guys with the make-up and costumes in a small ,dark, boiling hot club...jam packed with people ....and imagine yourself right up at the stage. The power blasting from that stage was fucking insane. These guys would attack the audience with their sound and attitude. It was incredible. We were in our late teens, early 20s...high school and college days. At that time...almost nobody was wearing glam make-up and costumes. One thing about TS was that they were these big, tough, hardcore guys. Nothing like a few years later when all the other glam/hair metal androgynous vibe became the thing. These guys were intense. You had to be there. Some of the most fun I've had in my life.
Here in the midwest, we did not even know about them.
Around 1987 is when we were *allowed* to hear : (
I was there. Accurate description.
Umas das maiores bandas de Heavy Metal e vocalista da história ...Eddie Ojeda era um monstro assim como A.J. na batera🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of the best live concerts I've heard in a long time, whoever recorded this, props!!
Just a great live band. I got to see this guy around the same time period in a club in Detroit called Harpo's. It was incredible. None of that "We're not Gonna Take It" fluff just pure Raw Loud Heavy Metal. I was in the front at a table and Dee wouldn't let me sit down or put me hands to the side all show. It was get your heads in the air and heads a banging for an hour and a half maybe longer. A top 5 concert for me and I've been to many. No fancy lights or pyro. Just pure raw rock and roll. I was an SMF after that show!!
Brilliant. I was there. My mate was playing there that day with Bernie Marsden. Sister were brilliant.
I love this. Under the blade is still heavy today. Awesome performance.
This tis true rock in roll show!
So good! I like their live guitar tone so much more than on the records.
Legendary band and concert 🤘🤘🤘
I was 15 yrs old when I met them at Phoenix Az Tower Records in store meet and greet - 85’ -they all signed my vinyl “I am I’m Me” 12 inch single B side thre tracks live Marquee!!
I asked to touch Dee Snider hair, it was soft and curly , still have that record!!!
This is fantastic. I had no idea Twisted Sister were such a good live act. My only knowledge of them was the 'We're not gonna take it' video from the 1980's. I'm so glad I stumbled across this.
Man they were epic trust me 👊🏽
They were so much more than those videos
You can't stop rock n roll and under the blade have to be the best they put out
I remember sneaking into a club(i was underaged) to see these guys and meet Dee(super nice guy) Dee hung out and talked to everyone after the show.
Bloody brilliant 👍
I saw these guys back in the day when La'Mour was the rock capital of Brooklyn. Still have the bumper sticker that says that on my turntable dust cover, got the official "smff of ts" card, & of course a free t- shirt that says, "Lamour Rock Capital of Brooklyn"....Didn't know the drummer died. R.I.P., A.J.
Remember Adventureland! I was a different person after that. I couldn't here for two days. That was a great time.
Wait.....you still have a “Lamour Rock Capitol of Brooklyn” shirt!!! Damn...I lost all mine along the way....👎. That place kicked ass! Saw Megadeth, Anthrax, TS, Manowar, Metallica....etc..etc..🤘
Great seeing my boys in their prime! Thanks for posting this great footage.
Saw them live at L'amores in Brooklyn in like 87.. Omg i was a teen.. They were good!!
Stay Hungry was what got me addicted to twisted sister.. like 30 years ago or something like that.

The voice was made for heavy Metal and damn was it even better live!
I was at this festival , the vid doesn't do justice to how great you guys were ..
The 1980's is truly the most underrated decade ever. So many things turned into shit after about 1992 that it is just a damn tragedy. It is cool to look back at old concert footage from that decade though. We can still kick back, relax and have a few beers while reliving the good times with videos like this one. Man if I ever get my hands on a time machine I think I will go to this one. OH yeah. PCR test first. I know. I know.
Thanks for posting lads. I hope that all of you are in good health and enjoying life. Cheers!
