  • Massive EF-4 Tornado tracked across Louisville Mississippi killing 10 people, throwing cars and tossing trucks on April 28th 2014
    To license footage contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
One of many twisters that touched down in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee during the multi-day tornado outbreak of April 27th & 28th, 2014. The day before killer tornadoes touched down near Little Rock Arkansas as well as Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Louisiana.
LOUISVILLE TORNADO: April 28, 2014 Current statistics.
10 fatalities, numerous injuries and many still missing. I would estimate this tornado will get an EF-4 rating by the NWS.
This is what I witnessed... At Approximately 4:30 PM a large tornado descended from a massive mesocyclone on the South side of Louisville and tracked Northeast across the eastern side of town. Suddenly the sky filled with strange debris namely leaves, branches, house insulation, tin and plywood. At one point I noticed something very large flapping in the sky. When it landed close by I realized it was the floor mat of a car. The chase ended with large pine and oak trees laying across the road blocking passage. I turned around to find another route Eastern route and came across a field full of tossed cars. Firemen and locals were already at the scene looking inside the cars for people. To my knowledge they were all empty. In the distance you could see the path of the tornado had destroyed houses. To get to that scene several locals trying to assist and myself had to meander around felled power lines. We parked in a line, exited the vehicles and started to approach destroyed houses when a lady ran up explaining we had to move. They found a victim with "serious head trauma" and we were blocking passage so I evacuated that scene. I then ended up on the South side of town. Again in the distance we could make out more destruction and exited our vehicles and started tracking through the mud on foot. The clouds were getting darker and a second tornado warned storm was going to train directly over the path of the last tornado. It was nightmareish Hell. A small tornado touched down and I ran back to my car in fear of wave two. Feeling defeated and helpless I blasted south while lines of Emergency vehicles from other towns raced into the scene. Mike Hollinger's storm chase team was also on the scene and were able to aid several victims successfully.

Awesome video, love your tornado work. You're the only video reporter of tornados who does not have "that" screaming girl in the back seat of the car. You know, the one who screams so loud that the emphasis is on her, not the tornado.

I believe 10 people across the state were killed that day...at least 5 in this county...2 people I personally knew. One was Ruth Bennett, who was a daycare owner who was found deceased...but with her arms wrapped around a living child. They had been waiting for that child's mother to pick up the little girl. So Ruth saved the little girl's life.

He's not alone, either. I can't help myself! I just love listening to these videos and reading all the comments. Also, I think I may have found a way to help google and us get rid of trolls. If we start "liking" all the good comments, even the good observations, that helps you and others' videos get better ratings. Likewise, we need to use that "dislike" button on all the trolls. It's easy. Just "like" all the non-trollish comments and not just the funny or the "amen!" types. When we "like" all the agreeable comments, it helps everyone who also enjoys them. Likewise, when we "dislike" the trolled or smartass comments, that will hopefully isolate the trolls. I think it goes along with UA-cam guidelines. I've tried to report some of the real abusers, and it's much harder to do, especially if someone's channel has no videos. When I say no videos, I mean not even playlists or others' channels like mine, because I can't create any videos myself. I wish I had someone who could help me create some, but I'm not able to find anyone for now.

WHOA!! Hank sounds scared, this one.
I go back in time to the BIG El Reno event where he pulls over to or gets pulled over by a woman who is very anxious about this and how he was trying to reassure her and get her to go back in the house. Her dog looked pretty wiggin ' too..
I do not remember how close he got to that one.
This video seems more up close and personal. Just unusual for Hank to frazzle.
From this side of the screen it's near impossible to know what he or any of the storm chasers may go thru. I kind of get it ,and only kinda.
    GR8 work Hank!!👍

Although, there may likely be a tornado in that footage, what you are actually seeing in the very beginning is called a supercell thunderstorm. These storms are usually fairly small. But what they make up for in size is their awesome power. These storms often contain very strong and fast winds, large hail, microbursts and yes, even tornadoes. Just a quick fyi science lesson. Great video!!

    • @danielwalmsley6592

Never seen such a cringeworthy comment. If you're going to try and appear educated- actually know what you are talking about. No in the beginning he is seeing a tornado. However it's obscured. That tornado happens to be spawned from a supercell (what a surprise.) Not only does hank forecast these storms and record the tornadoes they spawn. He's also spoke to a scientist on the topic of tornadogenesis.
TL;DR Hank knows what he's seeing.

Do you know what time your house got hit? When i was looking for victims in the aftermath there was a strong radar signature that another tornado was tracking very close to the path of this one. I'm assuming that's the one that struck your homes. Any information would be very helpful Necra. Thanks and good luck.

When you chase/see a tornado your adrenaline kicks in so you swear. Put yourself in his shoes for once.

Tornadoes in Mississippi? I don't remember this, and I live 62 miles northwest of Louisville.

Pecos Hank hey Hank, great videos! Did you ever get around to uploading the rest of
this footage, I live around Tupelo so it’s interesting to see. By any chance did you chase on 4/27 in this area? Thanks for the content again man!

In my area there was a tornado that tossed a car over 3 miles from its damage path... which then landed on my grandmother's roof. She was ok, and the damage was eventually repaired, but holy shit.

It was nuts Chris! Fast moving tornadic HP's with low LCL's in 70+ dews IN THE JUNGLE! Might rethink my game-plan about chasing Mississippi again.

    • @ChrisKridler
      @ChrisKridler 10 років тому

Pecos Hank I chased Arkansas once and said 'never again.' It would depend on circumstances, but exactly what you describe is not what I'd want to be chasing in Dixie Alley.

You should try living here. Where i live (Biloxi) average temp in July/August is 95 with 90%humidity. Ironically 2 hours from now Tropical Storm Cindy is making landfall about 120 miles west of here. We've had over 18inches of rain and the storm hasnt even made landfall yet. Love your videos HANK!

You are looking at a rotating mesocyclone, the parent thunderstorm, not the tornado. Heaven help anyone under a tornado that big. There would be nothing left.
