I grow only vegetables. I have 3 8x5 raised beds, one 4x4 low raised bed, and a 11x6 in-ground bed, plus two half barrels for herbs.
I have another 11 by 3 foot in ground bed that is real poor soil so I'm converting that back to grass this year.

That sounds awesome! How long does it take you in mid-summer to take care of it?

I grow enough to be able to harvest meal size portions. Also for storing/freezo/canning.

Thank you very much for your good advice! Here in north central Iowa we have a somewhat short growing season. But with some planning you can grow a lot of veggies.I have raised beds, 1. 4 X 17 feet. 2. 2 x 4 beds. 3. 1. 3 x 3. I have made a new bed last week 4 x46. Plus i have 2 apple trees and a 3 x 20 foot floor bed. I try to spend as much time as possible in the garden. :) I am 67 years young and been gardening all my life. I think you would call that a life-time gardener. I am thankful for my father who taught me and made gardening fun. Thank you and God bless you and your husband!!!!

Thanks for your input Paul! That sounds amazing :) How long would you say you spend on average each week in the garden?

@@EmbracingHarvest I would say 6 to 7 hours per week. i love it and could spend twice that much.

10:15 also if you're growing food crops, some do better in ground beds. Some corn varieties can have a route up to 15in deep. Another would be for growing deep root crops, and your raised bed is only 6 inches you might want to put those in an inground it is well.

Sorry, that should be 4 x 6 new bed!

Oh I love sweet corn. Takes about 10 minutes to plant it 😎. Takes about a half hour to harvest it 😎. Then it can take about an two two hours to pull out all the dead stocks 🤔😕😔... yeah I grow a lot of corn 🤓.

@@EmbracingHarvest i do. There is something about having 6 to 8 foot corn stalks in the yard and crowing corn the growing my other crops does not bring. A real feeling of 'i grew this'.
