I've been shooting sports with my R6 ii since August. My take away is that AF is vastly superior to any D/SLR I've used (incl. 1DX 1DX ii and 1DX iii) however, it doesn't work miracles. Shooting fast paced ball sports where you snap focus and shoot in fractions of seconds means eye tracking is hopeless. My colleague shoots with a R3 and he's got so frustraed with the extra AF features, like subject tracking, he's shooting it as if its a D/SLR and just using the centre AF point with expansion. I've persisted with subject tracking and whole area tracking and for the most part its been very good, but nowhere near perfect. I've used the ES for most things and just deleted images with obvious rolling shutter distortion. The image quality is superb and I've even used it at up to ISO 40000 for dance in bad lighting.
I was very frustrated with my R6 II on setting AF for marathon runner. I wanna focus on one runner, focus tracking the runner that go toward me and then switch to next runner. Also I wanna select certain runner from other runner in the same focus distance. Also keep the exposure lock during tracking. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you.
Hi David! I've experienced the slow wake up time until I upgraded to an Sony Though V90 SD Card, cutting wake up time at lease by a half. I also noticed that when shooting with a 400mm 2.8 IS USM lens i can't get 40 FPS.
Had my R6 MKII for a couple of months, shooting rugby and cricket. The AF tracking and electronic shutter is fantastic for cricket (only had minor rolling shutter issues with curved bats). For rugby I had to turn off the tracking and people detection as it struggled with so many players in shot, so pretty much had the AF set as per my 5DMK4 - could be just me getting used to it though, or perhaps need to fine tune the AF settings. Only had to change battery once during 5 hour cricket match (2000+ images). Looking to get a battery grip soon.
I mean, how is the camera supposed to know which player you want in focus? The new R1 and R5II are supposedly more geared for that but only certain sports.
Great review! Out of focus pictures drive me crazy! That's the one negative of using my Canon DSLRs. The poor performance at high ISO is my second complaint of my DSLRs. If I were to go mirrorless, I would go with the R6 MKII.
The R6m2 sounds so tempting to get as I have the R6. However, I don’t know what Canon is up to by marking it down so much. It seems like they are preparing to drop a R6m3 real soon. I guess we’ll know more after the July 17 announcement.
Yea it will probably come out next year. Picked up a new r6 mkii through canon’s loyalty program for $1740 plus tax. Had the r6 for 4 years and didn’t want to pay $2.7-3k for the mkiii.

Great Video!
Do you recommend having the 70-200 2.8 USM II in your experience instead of the III? does it have fast autofocus?
He literally says he uses the II with no issues. So you should be fine
Love your videos! What is your go to format?
Thank you Carey. Not sure I understood the question if I'm honest.

I'd be grateful with any comments you could make about this challenge as well: how to stop the camera switching between several faces

They go into a lot of detail on the different focus modes and how to tune them

Very honest summary 👌
Have used the R6 since February and agree 100%, though I'm just a simple amateur....😊
I have only started to take pictures of camogie and some hurling can u do a video on settings and best place to shoot them

Apparently they aren't gonna drop it this year! Might take advantage of the discounts too
