I'll try to explain what I left out in the tutorial. As you are counting down you say 10 and flip 1 card, then you say 9 and flip a 2nd card, then you say 8 and flip a 3rd card.... and so on. As you can see, the number you are saying added to the number of cards you've put down always equals 11. So let's say you count down and match the number 8. You have used 3 cards to match the 8. Since you need to have each pile equal 11 cards and you have only placed 3 cards down, you will need to count the value of 8 cards to help get to the 44th card. Imagine these are the face up cards: 4 6 capped pile 2 So the first pile with the 4 has 7 cards. The second pile with the 6 has 5 cards The third pile that's capped has 11 cards The fourth pile with the 2 has 9 cards We add 4+6+2= 12 and the 12th card will be the 44th card in the deck. We have 7 cards in the first pile, 5 in the second pile and 9 cards in the fourth pile. We need to add the total of 4 to the 7 = 11 6 to the 5 = 11 0 to the 11 capped pile 2 to the 9 = 11 ------------- 12 cards will get us to the 44th card.

I came up with a variation of this trick so you use no sleight of hand. Leave the jokers in. Have the participant deal the cards into 2 even piles. There are now 2 piles of 27 cards. Have them choose a pile and secretly choose a card and shuffle the pile (leave the other pile alone for now). Now you can use the 27 card trick to place the card into the 17th position from the top of the pile (you can look this trick up as it's pretty easy to do). Now you place the other pile on top and preform this trick. Jokers have no value when you're counting down. I like this because it gives you a way to not let on that 27 is a special number.

May not be a Top 3 because you teach so many great ones that are even easier to do, but this is very aesthetically pleasing with the lids (caps) and no lids. I prefer to see it as 8 cards to the side and theirs on top is 9th from the bottom.

the rider black or discontinued brown backed cards would be awesome, I am Australian but I live in Bali, Indonesia and there is no magic stores or any quality magic decks to buy. I would love to have a sweet deck to practise some of your effects, as Magic is my life (actually more of a hobby as I have school).
When I do this trick and am counting the cards down from ten, I just announce that I'm dealing several plies face up. I don't count out loud, just to myself so as to not give the observer any clue about how it's done. In any of the first four piles, If I get no match I simply deal another card face up on that pile and just move to the next pile. After four piles are dealt I just add the tops of the piles that didn't count down to one. Then I continue with another face up pile and deal until one card less than the total of the first four. I then announce that the next card will be the selected card.

I do this trick a little bit different. I don't do the cuts, and I put the 4 cards on he table and count the cards up to ten. But this version is much cooler, cause it confuses the spectators. Thanks!

I call this 1 AKA Lids. 3 things to remember. 1. Only count dowb from 10 not King 13 as All face cards =10 here 2. For countdown to their card only count fasce up cards. Lids are not counted & makes sense becauae if you counted them l, you would exhaust/run out of cards. 3. If you give them 8 cards instead of 9, better because turn over the card AFTER the count NOT on the last #. Long term memory, They are putting their secret card on top of Licky 7 cards.

I was having difficulty where when I would come back to this trick after months of mon-use, it was difficult to remember 8, 9 or 10th spot. My remember is use 50 cards. 2 cards are hidden fave down as prediction of card in position 7 of 10 of a set up pile. The other 38 unused cards are used to make THREE Piles of Countdown from 10. In addition to the values of 1-3 possible piles, 10 Is automatically added for the 4th that is not put down at all.
