Maori use the term "tangata whenua" which means "people of the land". I have an affinity for where I grew up, but it's not the same as having lived on the same land for generations. @@andrewstevenson118 I've been to Canada and USA and seen how native is used which seems to be fitting because it has a historic purpose (even they are more specific with tribes though just like you suggest). In the UK, I've mostly seen it used by right wing reactionaries to portray a "native" vs. invader (immigrants/non white people/refugees etc.) dichotomy.

The right wing parties have been moving systematically further and further to the right for quite some time now. Tories from 15 years ago would call the Tories of today far right, nevermind Reform. So, unfortunatelly, yes. There is no moderate right wing option in todays political scene. If you vote right wing, you're voting far right, whether you realize it or not.
Still havent heard what these English values are that they say are under threat except by themselves. When Farage joined in the criticism about Sunak early leave of DDay I wondered how long it would be that his followers taint him being there as much as the other not. Immigration control is not the same as racism but Farage brings them together .

The British elite may epitomise posh assumptions of birthright ease and access, but here in Oz, despite our general g'day owyagoin' drawling, we too follow the British moneyed school system. Alexander Downer is/ was such a politician. He's landed in the UK for life now scoring a monstrous salary for being posh on behalf of Australia.
The accent of the wealthy speaks volumes. He literally said our family is born to be leaders when his daughter as a Melbourne lawyer ran for state election here in a South Oz in my electorate (and lost twice, huffing back to Melbourne).
We all need Charlie. Take up his offer of a 5min spot. He could well be the antidote of universal despair

Why has Sunak concentrated so much on Labour when his really enemy is farage and reform/bnp/nf. He could have made an attempt to sure up his vote but it is too late now.

On the question of Public School "Confidence", it is possibly built from the foundation stone of, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." For example, if the kid was so much trouble and actually gets thrown out of a Public School, it wouldn't really be a problem as Father would put you into the Military as an Officer, or into the "City" with his Bank or Financial Advisor or, if all else fails, into Politics!

Got nothing against asylum seekers but if your going to treat them better than nationals then your going to get rejection take people taken into protection usually put into bedsits or one star accommodation, yet if I get on a boat from France I can look forward to a 4 star hotel for free

Obama didn't sol the bed like Biden did. That wasn't just a disaster, it was likely disqualifying for many voters who haven't decided to vote for Biden no matter what. I'll vote for Biden or whoever the Democrats run because Trump has to be defeated in November. That performance was not the way an opposing presidential candidate makes that happen.

Interesting. I was born in Glasgow to Glaswegian parents. I moved about the country and picked up different accents. But learned how to assimilate into various groups, job posts, etc with adopting different accents. I can carry off just about any accent. It definitely does make people automatically believe different things about me depending on where I am and which accent I adopt. My values and beliefs are assumed simply because of an accent change.
The nhs is not wonderful. It is wonderful in parts, mediocre in parts and awful in parts.

You can compare Israel to the Nazis. You can compare the colour black to white and anything you choose to absolutely anything else. Comparing two things is to explore the differences, similarities or even total contrast or exact opposite between those two things. “The similarity or dissimilarity between the two things” is the dictionary definition of the word.

@@user-cu5nw7kq5b I think Putin was concerned about NATO expanding onto Russia's borders. It's common sense that superpowers should have buffer zones and he mentioned this numerous times. Not everything in the west is as nice as we'd like to believe. The caller would probably have explained this but the host did his usual twists and turns to avoid it.

We only have to look at Trump to realise just how readily people who support him will WANT to believe everything he tells them. Recently Trump said that he NEVER said "lock her up", even while we can SEE the video of him and his supporters saying it. Yet his supporters will insist that he never said it.
