  • Grab a cold pint, sit back and enjoy this great Master Class. This class was taught by Charles Frizzell who is the Head Brewer and Owner of Broken String Brewery in Orlando Florida.
This class dives head first into Barrel Aging. Charles covers topics such as choosing the right barrel, where and how to get a barrel, storing, and filling the barrel. Charles also takes us through a transfer of beer from a barrel to a brite tank, while doing Q&A from the audience.
    Hope you enjoy!

Home brewer question. After months in a barrel, can you bottle condition? Will there be enough yeast in suspension to carbonate the beer?

So as a home brewer, would you go from the boil to the barrel, and then in 6 months or so time add the yeast? Or would add yeast straight away and therefore use the barrel like a fermenter? Or would you ferment first in a separate container and then transfer to the barrel?

Ferment it first and then transfer into a barrel to age.
