- For the beauty of the earth, music by Philip Stopford, composed in 2003 for the choir of Belfast Cathedral. Performed here by Ecclesium in the Chapel of Keble College, Oxford, and with video footage of the West Coast of Ireland and Galway Cathedral.
For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.
For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon, and stars of light:
For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled
For each perfect gift of thine
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven:
For thy church which evermore
Lifteth holy hands above,
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love:
Philip, keep the music coming! The prayerful words of gratitude, accompanied with such beautiful harmonies give such an amazing glimpse of what heaven is going to be like. My Chamber Singers are studying this piece right now and, as our pastor said recently (with regard to GOOD music), we can feel the very presence of God as we sing. Thanks for writing music where GOD alone is glorified.
NO, not ruined. This is the most moving, beautiful music and I am so grateful to you for creating this. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. My daughter's choir sang this last weekend and the audience was STUNNED. We sat in silence for a second and then erupted into applause. You have a God-given gift. Thank you for sharing it.
I am in tears. This is just beautiful! Lord of All to Thee we raise... this our hymn of grateful praise. Thank-You.
This is one of the most glorious pieces of music ever written, in my opinion. The music reflects the text so well. It is a beacon in a cold weary world. Philip Stopford, you have been touched by the hand of God to be able to hear this in your mind and write it down, and so beautifully convey the meaning of the text. How this got 5 thumbs down boggles my mind(Rutter fans maybe?) LOL. I like the Rutter, but this is just beyond any words I can give it. Love singing it. When I do, I always think of these pictures. You have to be a countertenor. I am , and we always seem to have the juiciest part. Thanks.
One of the first satb choral pieces I learned and still gives me shivers.
Just absolutely wonderful - surely one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. And how clever to match the fantastic footage of the west coast of Ireland with the words.
This melody won't let go of me. Some pieces of music you just have to own.
I thought "Do Not be Afraid" was going to be my favourite, but this tops that for me. Love singing this piece. Exquisite.
Absolutely lovely setting. Glad you are coming to Philadelphia soon.
Best,
afd

Beautiful - can't wait to hear you sing this!
Sing well, Sr. Annette - I'm sure those listening will be blessed!
Beautiful and different from the original. Very melodic and restful.
Dear Philip,
I very much loved your composition here, combined with the performance by Ecclesium, it is exquisite.
Would you mind if I cross-posted this piece to my Channel? I'd want to use my own photographs (the video here really doesn't compliment your music). I shall give you full credit.
I don't monetise my Channel.
Best wishes,
Anthony.
I've found your music on the net. I must say : it's very beautiful; I like " the beauty of the world" and your carols are splendid.
