You and the lady dance beautifully together! Makes me think that you've danced together before on numerous occasions, so that you can each anticipate how the other is going to move and can reciprocate accordingly.
Dying Flogmeat potentially. The only issue being my co-ordination is so bad I could fall off the earth while sitting on the ground. P.s. I'm British too. We brits understand the true English language /jk /s
I admire how you do that so naturally. I'm damn stiff and totally uncapable of doing something like that. I mostly watch these vids 'cause I'm amazed by what you do, and how you do it.
Lloyd, what would you consider to be a good tune to dance lindy hop to for beginners? With a beat that is perhaps more easily matched to the steps when you're not that familiar with neither the music nor the dance style? Cheers.
About 37-40 bars a minute is a good starting mid-tempo (138-160 beats per minute). Slower is not easier - it's harder. Apollo Jump by Lucki Millinder is quite steady. ua-cam.com/video/Vn6IEs07psk/v-deo.html
Most of you people are really strange about what you consider special/unusual. Get a (social) life. Learn to dance. Or learn some other great social skills. Strange enough, you'll meet a lot of beautiful, smart and fun people on a daily basis.
The tuck turn has never been known to kill Frenchmen. However, when well executed in front of a madamoiselle, it may afford one the opportunity to stuff the French.
FSquid i can only imagine him buying them, you know those old surplus army fatigues that are way too baggy? You git those in black? But without the cargo pockets
The Bren is so accurate, that it's been considered for use as anti-satellite weaponry. The -MG42- Spandau is so inaccurate, that it's most useful as a bludgeoning instrument. You can find more facts like these, only on UA-cam.
Is there any chance you can make a video talking about yourself? I've spent so much time listening to you talk about the origins of just about anything, but I'm curious to hear you tell us where you came to learn all of this. I'm sure it'll be a good story.
Ah, the old tuck turn. I'm pretty sure that this "dance" was originally an evasive movement learned by 16c infantrymen to lessen the chance of being hit by over-sized double-bitted axes, fire arrows, highly poisonous swords which killed instantly, the arrows from ineffective mounted archers and even the charge of a berserker....sadly the infantrymen could never avoid the flaming Spandau's!!!
I'm still trying to get the long legged Charleston to work. All my friends say "Yuri you are a powerlifter not a dancer please stop" but I don't care, it looks fun. I just wish I could do it better.......
It's sort of strange to me, albeit oddly satisfying to see European embrace something that's so quintessentially American as jazz and swing. I say the satisfaction is odd because I don't usually feel a sense of vicarious satisfaction or pride in aspects of my country's history or culture with which I had nothing to do
I agree. Most cultures in that general area are somewhat insular but South Korea has almost been craving new an interesting cultures to come share. I have been there once or twice. They have really taken a liking to American style BBQ by the way, ha. It feels like a two way street though as they seem more then happy to share their culture too, which is nice.
Hi Mr. Beige. i have a question for you. cant really find anything about it on the internet so ill ask here :P Have Bulls (cattle) ever been used as cavalry? maybe its why cowboys made a sport of trying to ride them? no idea
Hey. Iv enjoyed most of your videos thus far, however some cause a fair bit of controversy to my mind. Such as this one. I like that you have a wide and varied range of interests. Keep up the good work and I'm sure il enjoy future posts. Peace
So did Lindy change his mind? I quite find that it adds something to my appreciation of Lindy that I disagree with him on some things, sort of like the idea he illustrated in that video where he crosses out articles in the paper that he agrees with.
Clearly Lloyd will have changed his mind now since that was an old video and everything Al Gore and his expert scientists predicted turned out to be true, the polar ice caps melted back in 2013, polar bears are extinct and food is running out. Billions will now die because we wouldn't hand over all power to a global government. International socialism could've saved us. With socialism no one has to starve.
Part of me likes to imagine that these videos were made to prove to an organization that you can teach swing dancing classes and that all of your historically oriented videos before this were just a practice in teaching for this specific series.
Lindy i gotta be honest mate- i really like the fact you're enjoying Lindy Hop enough to want to push it to a wider audience, but you should set up another channel for this- i really wanna see more history videos mate- as you are to me like the awesome History teacher I never had and the reason I have a renewed interest in History. hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. all the best Ben
I'm a Lindy Hop fanatic. Most of the things I watch on UA-cam are dance. But I agree 100% with BenniboiBadman. Just my opinion but Lindy fans and History fans would both be better served by separate channels. I'd still watch both.
Lloyd clearly labeled all his dance videos so I don't see a problem with them being on this channel. He also puts up rants that have nothing to do with history.
Maybe you could also explain from the follower's perspective? For example, during the turn, follower should follow their elbow to increase comfort and connection, but more importantly minimise shoulder injury.
Coming from a martial arts background, I watched this as martial arts instructions - I'm confused though: Where's the grip? The throw? The finishing blow? ...maybe this is why I never waltz. (It's interesting and educative to learn about new arts. I appreciate it!)
My father knew how to dance like that, though he never showed me. He died on the dance floor, of a massive heart attack, doing a Jitterbug. Thank God, he was surrounded by friends and family. He died happy.
Oh man I love these Lindyhop videos. Where can I find a place to learn in Germany? EDIT: Or asked differently, could we as viewers commission a basic course?
Lindy, I'm thinking of writing a story that involves Roman legionaries. Can you recommend any resources that'd be particularly useful toward the end of maintaining some semblance of historical authenticity?
Lindy do you think maybe you could make a video on your favourite music/bands/genres? if you like music that is... It would be an interesting yet not to intrusive glimpse into your personal life and your mind you can tell alot about someone by the music they listen to :) just a thought
Did laura not want to talk in your video? I feel like we've gotten better introductions to and heard more from chickens in the background of fair videos
Wait?! Where is the part about axes? :-D Lindybeige, you're a rather awesome gentleman, if I may say so myself. On a side note, this looks very similar to jive.
The last bit about the footwork is just like grammatical rules in creative writing. At beginner level, you don't know all the rules. At intermediate level, you're following the rules as they're written. At advanced, you've learned when and how to break the rules for creative flavour or a personal touch.
How do you have time for all your interests. Btw, you should use your assistants name when referring to her rather than "she" all the time. Mind you I do tend to refer to women who's name I've forgotted as she or Dave
The gall on this man, how dare you teach me how to dance, I am forever grateful.
I don't care what anyone else says, I love the variety of topics on your channel.
You and the lady dance beautifully together! Makes me think that you've danced together before on numerous occasions, so that you can each anticipate how the other is going to move and can reciprocate accordingly.
Ok. I have no interesting in dancing. But....I watch everyone of these vids. Anyone else like that?
Bloody auto correct
yeh same for me
You should see if there's a local organisation! Who knows, you may really enjoy it?
(Yes, I say 'Organisation', because I am British)
Dying Flogmeat potentially. The only issue being my co-ordination is so bad I could fall off the earth while sitting on the ground.
P.s. I'm British too. We brits understand the true English language /jk /s
kinda, i read the comments on Lloyd's videos even though i don't like lame jokes about machine guns and throwing pommels.
I admire how you do that so naturally. I'm damn stiff and totally uncapable of doing something like that. I mostly watch these vids 'cause I'm amazed by what you do, and how you do it.
I have no interest in lindy hop but I still watched this. Why are you so enchanting?
Fancy British man +1
Attractive woman +1
Fancy old school dancing +1
One day we are Greek fending off the Romans! The next, well we are studying Lindy Hop! Is there anything else we need?
Some beige shirts?
Lindy fashion.
Katanas and Bren guns.
Cooking?
He already showed us how to make the shirt so I think that's fashion.
I'm not a dance fan and don't subscribe to you channel for the Lindy, but I appreciate your passion for the dance, and I love Ms. Halttunen's curtsey.
do you call yourself lindybeige because you do the lindy hop and wear beige?
Yes he does.
My goodness, Holmes!
My God! You're a Genius!
Hey, he asked. And you never can be sure if a question is legit.
Amazing 😂😂
You make me want to learn dancing better, it seems like a great virtue of manhood.
Lloyd, what would you consider to be a good tune to dance lindy hop to for beginners? With a beat that is perhaps more easily matched to the steps when you're not that familiar with neither the music nor the dance style? Cheers.
Glenn de Moor deep purple highway star
About 37-40 bars a minute is a good starting mid-tempo (138-160 beats per minute). Slower is not easier - it's harder. Apollo Jump by Lucki Millinder is quite steady. ua-cam.com/video/Vn6IEs07psk/v-deo.html
In an age where everyone uses jump cuts, i found this rather impressive! Especially together with a silent partner. well done!
Those dancing videos are awesome.
I wish they taught dancing in school when I was a kid. Waltzes and dances like this.
How am i supposed to use this information to survive in medieval society?
....Once i build my time machine....
it will help you find a wench, the wench will feed you.
I swear, Lloyd meets the most attractive of women on a daily basis...
I double that, she's amazing. Would be awesome to stalk her on instagram or something... :d
The real question is: is she a Viking shield maiden?
Actually, Lloyd is James Bond's alter ego.
Most of you people are really strange about what you consider special/unusual. Get a (social) life. Learn to dance. Or learn some other great social skills. Strange enough, you'll meet a lot of beautiful, smart and fun people on a daily basis.
Lloyd is such a renaissance man, it's amazing
dammit man, when are you finally gonna show us how to employ these moves in combat??
These moves will prove useful in dodging bullets fired from a Spandau
the dance is distract them while you unscrew your pommel
GroovingPict do you have your beige uniform ready, sewed by hand?
not beige, but I do have a handmade uniform, of this type: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-VN4mVhEktnQ/U3eBAMB0SlI/AAAAAAAAzvs/XhmXK6UNEHA/s1600/2014014.jpg
GroovingPict you shall be my commander, sire
Hey Lindybeige which kind of bearfat are you using to tame your natural wild hair and beard ?
I actually had to google what Lindy is when I started watching your video a year ago. I never expected to see it here.
BRAVO lb, great instructional vid
love the follow ...
Came here for ancient history, got intrigued by the rants, stayed for those moves, damn!
But can you kill Frenchmen with it
You'd be surprised
Tuck turn is really hard to dodge, even for Bourrée Auvergnate experts
The tuck turn has never been known to kill Frenchmen. However, when well executed in front of a madamoiselle, it may afford one the opportunity to stuff the French.
No, but you can take off one of those shoes and end them rightly.
heroofcanton101 omfg yes
I love your dance videos. I haven't seen all of them, but I'm pacing myself.
I've always suspected it, but now i know its true. The ladies love LindyBeige. Tall and cultured, they can't get enough of him. They're impressed.
I don't know what's wrong with me but I can't get over how awesome those pants are.
His or hers?
yes.
FSquid i can only imagine him buying them, you know those old surplus army fatigues that are way too baggy? You git those in black? But without the cargo pockets
the trousers look like they belong with the zoot suit, which is appropriate for jazz.
+George Patient I believe they are bags which were popular in the UK around the 20's I believe.
so that part is basically the basic steps for dancing jive. :)
very interessting to see the roots of a dance i myself enjoy quite a bit.
I wish the teacher at the lindyhop class I once attended was half as good as you at teaching! Maybe I would have continued then.
That lady has excellent posture.
Rockin' the bow-tie!
Quite the dapper chap.
that "PAY ATTENTION" got you my like
I don't dance, but I find this interesting for some weird reason. I guess all knowledge is power, even dancing i am never going to actually do.
+tebweb1 precisly.
its all about that trivia show you might one day be on.
I bet an army of Lindy hop dancing hoplites would scare the Romans off.
I'd like to see a video of you two just dancing, to see the things you're explaining put in practice.
Exquisite tutorial, man.
You should dance in Hoplite armor.
so he can become the first Lindy Hoplite? ;D
Katanas, Spandu, Vikings, dual-wielding; fire arrows, ended rightly with pommel throw.... Did I just get the first generic Lindy comment??
You forgot the french. Shame on you and your elderberry-scented father.
Let the buzzsaw war begin
The Bren is so accurate, that it's been considered for use as anti-satellite weaponry.
The -MG42- Spandau is so inaccurate, that it's most useful as a bludgeoning instrument.
You can find more facts like these, only on UA-cam.
I heard that the longest tank kill in the world was made by a British gun-must've been a 120mm Bren!
Thrax Hunter end it with and dancing!
Why am I watching this? Will never need it anyway. Uguu.
Wonderful.
You make a splendid (dance) couple, a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for explaining the...uhh...lead theory? Now I know why my wife is always icing her shoulder after weddings.
I'm early on a lindybeige video. I should say something snarky to get a reply...
..........
you're not early, you're on time
Sorry im late guys.
Am I still early?
That's only because a wizard is never early or late, he arrives precisely when he means to.
***** What is a hobbit doing in the comment section?
Is there any chance you can make a video talking about yourself? I've spent so much time listening to you talk about the origins of just about anything, but I'm curious to hear you tell us where you came to learn all of this. I'm sure it'll be a good story.

LOL hilarious! Thx! Smackedinthejaw! You are a fall down scream laugh riot!
I'm still trying to get the long legged Charleston to work. All my friends say "Yuri you are a powerlifter not a dancer please stop" but I don't care, it looks fun. I just wish I could do it better.......

I say the satisfaction is odd because I don't usually feel a sense of vicarious satisfaction or pride in aspects of my country's history or culture with which I had nothing to do
The revival started simultaneously in Britain, Sweden, and the USA. The biggest swing dance scene in the world is Korea.
Lindybeige
I can see that. Korea seems to be particularly open to trying new things, culturally. sort of a stark contrast to their northern neighbors
I think many of them would love a change, actually.
I agree. Most cultures in that general area are somewhat insular but South Korea has almost been craving new an interesting cultures to come share. I have been there once or twice. They have really taken a liking to American style BBQ by the way, ha. It feels like a two way street though as they seem more then happy to share their culture too, which is nice.
Yayyy, more from the nice lady. I feel a dance in my pants.
Damn I actually learned something new about dancing, and this is coming from a latino used to salsa dancing and the like.
Hi Mr. Beige. i have a question for you. cant really find anything about it on the internet so ill ask here :P Have Bulls (cattle) ever been used as cavalry? maybe its why cowboys made a sport of trying to ride them? no idea
is that the Emily from dishonored? :D
The Lindy and Mindy Dance show!
Hey Lindy! Sweet moves keep it up ;)
Hey. Iv enjoyed most of your videos thus far, however some cause a fair bit of controversy to my mind. Such as this one. I like that you have a wide and varied range of interests. Keep up the good work and I'm sure il enjoy future posts. Peace
Looking very dapper Lloyd
last time i was this early lindy didn't believe in climate change
>2016
>Still believes in climate change
So did Lindy change his mind?
I quite find that it adds something to my appreciation of Lindy that I disagree with him on some things, sort of like the idea he illustrated in that video where he crosses out articles in the paper that he agrees with.
Which video was that?
And also, I believe his opinion on the matter has not changed.
With socialism no one has to starve.
wait.....has he indicated that he believes in it now?
So, is lindyhop teacher lloyd's regular day job?
Used to be.
What is it now?
Lindyhop night teacher
I believe he lectures history at a university, but don't quote me on that
From hoplite to tuck turn in 3,2,1 and of you GO. ;)
Part of me likes to imagine that these videos were made to prove to an organization that you can teach swing dancing classes and that all of your historically oriented videos before this were just a practice in teaching for this specific series.
How about a video on how common the Lindy Hop was in the UK before and during 1945?
Also, maybe an article on proper period outfits & hairstyles ;)
Lindy i gotta be honest mate- i really like the fact you're enjoying Lindy Hop enough to want to push it to a wider audience, but you should set up another channel for this- i really wanna see more history videos mate- as you are to me like the awesome History teacher I never had and the reason I have a renewed interest in History. hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. all the best Ben

Lloyd, You Rule!!

LMAOOOO I LOVE YOU LINDY "I have a tiny head" I CANT STOP LAUGHING
Lindybeige is a stud
love it! Thanks.
The chub and tuck? No? Dude..
you are drunk, go home!
There's no chub and tuck here!
the most interesting man in the world
I love seeing lindy dance, you can totally picture how skilled he must be in a knife fight
I have really been feeling the lindy videos. I mean I came for the beige, but I am staying for the lindy.
I like the way you explain! when another step? :)
My father knew how to dance like that, though he never showed me. He died on the dance floor, of a massive heart attack, doing a Jitterbug. Thank God, he was surrounded by friends and family. He died happy.
I wouldn't like to die but if it has to happen well this is a nice way. :-)
Lindybeige is the James Bond of D and D players.
there you go man ! now time to end her rightly ...
I doubt this can work well in a tense hoplit formation though.
It would be cool to see you guys do a short dance at full speed.
Oh man I love these Lindyhop videos. Where can I find a place to learn in Germany?
EDIT: Or asked differently, could we as viewers commission a basic course?
Are you perhaps still in Finland? What is your favorite place here in Helsinki?
Lindy, I'm thinking of writing a story that involves Roman legionaries. Can you recommend any resources that'd be particularly useful toward the end of maintaining some semblance of historical authenticity?
Read the Eagles of the Empire book series by Simon Scarrow.
These dancing videos were fun for they're novelty, but he keeps uploading more...
Lindy do you think maybe you could make a video on your favourite music/bands/genres? if you like music that is...
It would be an interesting yet not to intrusive glimpse into your personal life and your mind you can tell alot about someone by the music they listen to :) just a thought
your dancing partner is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.
Did laura not want to talk in your video? I feel like we've gotten better introductions to and heard more from chickens in the background of fair videos
She specifically requested not to speak.
what type of music is this? (sorry my lack of musical knowledge).
Lloyd's hair under some sort of control? I suspect an imposter. Did someone call for a stunt Lloyd or something?
Your pants look really comfortable
So there's no lethal violence involved at all?
Wait?! Where is the part about axes? :-D
Lindybeige, you're a rather awesome gentleman, if I may say so myself.
On a side note, this looks very similar to jive.
Those pants are 3 sizes too big, or is that the point? I don't know much about Lindy hop fashion.
more like 6 sizes
or lindy's legs are friggin huge
Do you ever look at some of the content from this channel and wonder "Is this the same person?"
The last bit about the footwork is just like grammatical rules in creative writing. At beginner level, you don't know all the rules. At intermediate level, you're following the rules as they're written. At advanced, you've learned when and how to break the rules for creative flavour or a personal touch.
what's the end card music on this video? the link in the description is for the normal theme.
I forget the track name, but I'm pretty sure it's by my favourite: Artie Shaw.
Lindybeige
much appreciated.
I don't know about everyone else, but the end screen links aren't working for me and I'm not on mobile.
Possibly you were so early that the annotations hadn't started working. They don't work immediately.
You just made "so early" joke, and you weren't even joking. Well played.
Lindybeige Great Guide of how to turn 300.000 medieval enthusiasths to Lindy Hop dancers
How do you have time for all your interests.
Btw, you should use your assistants name when referring to her rather than "she" all the time. Mind you I do tend to refer to women who's name I've forgotted as she or Dave
Lindy the ladies man!
Charming chap
I know this is supposed to seem easy, but it appears extraordinarily complex to learn...
So lindy gotta know. Did ya ever hit that?
MORE WAR LESS DANCE!!!
Just kidding great video keep it up!
That's a ballroom spot turn (pushes glasses back on nose and snorts).
