    So I definitely found what the voice is! It's a commercial that is run on UA-cam. How it became imprinted onto the video is beyond me? It least my truck camper is not haunted!

      That's interesting how it became imprinted on your video....... It sounds more like your voice saying, "I'm stuck, huh", more than a commercial imprint... would have caught me off guard.

      When I was editing it the sound definitely cought me off guard. The truck was completely quiet while driving. I do that so I can get the sound of the engine and tires on the snow. I have no clue how the voice got there.

    I was camping in my roof top tent in Sedona one night when my pup started barking at something. I sat up and listened for a moment and didn't hear anything so I told her to be quiet. Then I thought I heard someone very quietly whisper "good doggie." It was so quiet I wasn't sure if it was real or I just imagined it. Maybe just the wind rustling the fabric and my imagination. That's what I prefer to believe anyway.

    We used to go to Itasca every summer when I was a kid. Haven't been there for over 40 years though. I drove diesels for many years & only had one gel up once. That was right after I filled it up with diesel. Made it 9 of the 10 miles home & dead. Pushed it home the rest of the way. Never had a diesel pickup though. I had a 82 Oldsmobile diesel & later a 82 Buick Park Avenue diesel. Loved the diesel cars. You wouldn't win any races but the mileage was excellent & you had a big 4 door car.

    A gas engine looks good to me. What a blessing to know what you know in order to fix the problem you had otherwise you would have been out alot of money. To see that little narrow creek is mind boggling to think it's what makes up the Mississippi river. I don't see how it's possible. It goes against logic I think. Maybe the creepy “I’m stuck” was a warning? 🤔 I’m thinking a big block gasser might be in my future, if I get a truck camper. Yet more adventures, who knew. I didn’t know fuel pump heaters were a thing, thanks! No matter what the adventure, that’s still pretty country. My wife, sons, and I camped at Itasca State Park many years ago. We got a kick out of the sign that said how the early explorers talked about the “vicious musketoes.” 🙂 Spelling was more free form then. Interesting that during Winter Camping , you had problems with the truck and not the camper. It appeared the truck was not plugged in overnight? It's funny but I had the very same problem driving across Canada on the Northern side of the Lake during winter in my 2500HD Duramax and truck would loose power and stall as I was driving. I would stop somewhere out of the wind and let the engine compartment warm up. I had old fuel filters and cold and high winds while drive 60 mph did me in. I have to stop 4-5 time on my way from Calgary to Montreal. Great video. Thanks Kenny. Safe Travels!

    What we always used for our semi trucks and equipment was the good old fashion Power Serve. When really cold we always doubled dosed......worked really well....most of the time. Every so often we would get sub par Diesel which just made extra work for us.

    Another great video. The icing problem is frustrating. I would ensure the fuel filter is heated however I’m not up to speed on GM. I have a Ram with Cumins here in Alaska and have not had those type of issues…so far knock on wood. I did have my DEF freeze up after a long spell of -20 temps and it sat in the driveway for a week. But running it daily avoids that issue. Looking forward to your next video and my offer always stands for your trip to Alaska someday.

    I have faith that you will solve all of the winter fuel issues you’ve had this year in the future. This will allow you to keep that nice (and probably fast) diesel as your camping truck. I as well have the FASS system and contemplated buying the additional fuel heater. I opted not to because I normally only see about -10F as my coldest temps in the winter. I have had issues with gelling fuel at -15F when it WAS treated with Howes. I limped it to the gas station and pumped in a quarter tank of kerosene. This did clear up the gelled fuel but has less lubricity for the fuel system. I now treat with Power Service white bottle fuel treatment without any issues. But take this with a grain of salt because I normally only see -10F as my coldest. Stay with it, you’ll get it fixed!!

      It's amazing how fast the deisel is. I have no problems with Hwy on ramps. There are so many pros and cons with the deisel.

    Kenny, beautiful video, thank you for posting. Tim here from Kansas City, we just returned last night from your wonderful state, we picked up our new Palomino Back Pack truck camper from the dealer in Ramsey and we just beat the tornados in Des Moines by about 3 hours. I have a question about air bags, do you run air bags on your truck? I have a Ford F-350 duelly . I was not prepared for the amount of sway back and forth (maybe because I’m new to a truck camper and used to a bumper pull travel trailer) if you run air bags did it help with that? Can anyone jump in and give me some thoughts? We are planning a trip to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in 4 weeks.......seasickness was NOT in my vacation plans 😉

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 роки тому

      I do have air bags, plus a heavy-duty sway bar. To combat sway I run my bags around 50 psi. At that point the truck is seated on the overload Springs.
      I don't believe airbags are the answer to getting rid of sway on there own. In fact, I have owned trucks where the airbags contributed to the sway. I use the airbags to level the camper, but not fully support it. I leave that to my leaf pack and overload Springs, along with the sway bar.
      Before fully committing to airbags, also look at Timbrens. They both have their place in the truck camper suspensions. Sorry I can't give you a specific answer. It seems like every truck camper setup I have owned required different tweeks to the suspension depending on the truck.
      I did a video a while back on my suspension upgrades. The Silverado has a few different things done to handle the Arctic Fox.
      I'm glad to hear you cleared the tornadoes, that looked crazy. I hope you love your truck camper as much as I do mine! Safe travels.

    @johnlord8337 Рік тому +1

    Well, if you have geling problems, then I would suggest easy solutions.
    (1) Turn on the camper generator or the bumper generator.
    (2) Plug in accessible cordage of previously installed electric water pipe heater wrapping around all of the susceptible hose and metal piping - warming up the radiator fluid, fuel lines, etc.
    (3) Also have a (magnetic) oil pan heater (adjustable heating temperature control, hot oil, no cold seizing of dry pistons and rings) and rising heat from warm oil heats up the engine block, the diesel hot ignitor, and the radiator antifreeze. No more engine block heater only warming the block and radiator fluid - while the oil remains frozen and slapped by the cam shaft until finally warmed up. Could also run pipe heater wrap around the oil filter.
    (4) One might even run a hot pad on the gas tank so that it also can heat up the fuel, stop geling, or any fuel pump and filter in the fuel line.
    (5) Run this assembly 20-30 minutes before driving off and the engine and fuel will be easily ready for combustion.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  Рік тому +1

      I'm going to look into those suggestions. I've been wanting to do something like that for the last few years. It really is a good suggestion. 👍

    I am not a big fan of fuel additives in diesels. Too many bad experiences. I keep a propane heater in the truck during the winter. One of those camp stove wire frame types that set on the ground. Mr Heater I believe. I put it under the tank and oil pan before I start the truck if the temp is below 0. Never have an issue with extreme cold starts. Also good to have to heat the hands and feet!

    Thanks for the content Kenny. Did you ever find out what was causing the jelled fuel? Was it just a temperature thing?

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 роки тому +1

      I can not prove it, but I'm thinking contaminated fuel. I stopped by the gas station a few days later, and the deisel pumps were out of service. The employee said they had to change out the filters. I'm assuming they had water in the fuel.

    What type of battery pack did you use?

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 роки тому

      I'm going to go over that in a video shortly. It's called a Gooloo 4000 amp. It is an awesome jump pack. It's rated for a 10L diesel. I have used it with two dead batteries on the plow truck and diesel, and have started multiple vehicles between charges. I looked at many brands, the Gooloo had the better reviews and out performed the Noco on bench tests. It was 159.00 dollars. I was going to go with the Noco GBX155, the reviews on that jump park are really good as well. The Noco was 379.00 dollars.
      Both are really good jump packs that I would carry.

    You should never Gell up if you properly Treat your Fuel. Do you ever plug in your engine heater to shore power? When I lived in the North West I always plugged in the engine heater which made for easy starts on the engine. Nothing is harder on an engine than a cold start.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 роки тому +3

      I should plug in the engine heater. I installed a flush mounted plug on my bumper. It looks clean. I don't know why I don't plug it in? I should do that. I think the gas station may have got a batch of bad fuel. The diesel pumps were out of service the day after I filled up. Supposedly their filters in the pump froze. Maybe the got some water in the fuel.
