How does it do with transmission issues? My 08 xb has never had it transmission fluid changed and I heard it can cause slipping if i do it after time..
I’ve got a 05’ drove it off the lot with 3 miles on the odometer and I’m at 204k now. Thing keeps going. Recently lowered it on Tein springs, exhaust, added fogs, and sound deadening. It’s become a project car since pandemic started. Keeping me sane.

@@Big_lencho It helped to degree. I didn't doo the floor or the roof so if you end up doing those perhaps you'll get better results. Overall def makes it feel more solid.I did the rear hatch and all four doors. Used Kilmat, no complaints with the product.
I wracked hard my 2006 last month and I had to say farewell. It was my first car and added 240k miles without any problem. I simply maintained oil, breaks, tires. Added few fun things here and there. I had so much fun with DYI projects! KBB value may say $2k but my sentimental value was over $100k and I would not have gotten rid of my box if I didn't have to
Number 741 of 2200 of the RS 3.0 is sitting in a junkyard here in Memphis. It had the chrome plated door sill plates in it and I grabbed them for my '05. These little toasters run forever.
Mine has 225k miles on it and doing great. I've had it over 6yrs with no major issues other than regular oil, brakes, tune ups. I did replace the headlights and they are super cheap. I love my box. ;)

I have a ‘06 xB 5 speed with 107k. Bought brand new. The concept was no-haggle sales. There was a base price of about $14k and from there you could add different options like floor mats, rims, TRD exhaust, armrest, alternate tail-lights, etc… I got the alt tail-lights, leather steering wheel, leather seats, TRD exhaust, Scion logo mats, and arm rest. I added aftermarket rims and tires later, and the total cost for the car came out about $18k when the dust settled. My paint is still in great condition (garage parked, even at work), engine is running smooth (change my own oil every 3-5k miles, and changed the timing belt at about 80k), never changed the brakes or coolant (which I finally have to do now), exhaust is still good, and AC still blows cold. This car doesn’t have much power (about 104hp?), but with the 5 speed, it does pretty well (also added a Fujita cold air intake which helped from 2nd gear on). Overall, I love this car because it rides higher than a regular car -which makes it easier to see, and get in and out of, has lots of cargo space, head AND leg room (people are actually surprised by the amount of interior space), and it’s reliable (it is basically a Toyota). p.s. my windshield did finally get cracked by a little rock on the freeway in 2019, cost a little over $300 (in Hawaii).

Sooooo fun to drive this and save some gas instead of my 05 Sequoia. One for fun light hauling and the other for serious firewood hauling!!!
We got that exact same green RS for my wife years ago, fantastic, solid car. She drove it for a few years, sold it with about 170k to "upgrade" to a "low mileage" (around 80k), 2011 Voodoo Blue RS (with the sun roof!) and extensive maintenance records. While it's a little more fun to drive, it's a friggin tin can. Rattles and squeaks gallore, used oil from the beginning (about 1qt/1200mi; Toyota says its "normal", and it doesn't smoke), poor gas mileage for its size (around 25-27mpg... PURE HIGHWAY), and we've had to replace COPs twice, the alternator, the stereo unit, the driver's seat track welds broke (we aren't overweight people), and it has some howling bearings in the rear... and that's just off the top of my head. Oh, and the sheet metal will dent if you sneeze in its direction. But alas, my wife thinks its cute, so... For comparison, my 20 year old Ford E150 van, which we've had for about the same time and miles, has had fewer problems and can get over 20mpg highway (4.6 V8). I loved my 4Runner and the 1st gen XB, but Toyota didn't impress with the gen 2 XB.

They actually feel more well built from ly experience. My stick-shift 15 gets 28 city, 32 or better highway. Only way I see 25 is exceeding the limit 10 mph, which I never do. Oil consumption is common on earlier second gens. 13-15, pretty rare. Toyota had a mass campaign covering a rebuild. If the owner came in within 10 years from sale date and under 150k miles. Mine never consumes oil. Some early models prone to, never do as well. Both great cars. I saw a lot of benefits going with second gen.
WT Heck are you talking about? The 2nd gen is bigger more safer- more powerful with the Camry engine and way more space and style. The crappy gen 1 was a Toyota echo rebadged. I have a 2012 "Hot lava" RS 9.0 even the front and back emblems light up when you press to unlock- the 10.0 has navigation, wireless phone charging, scion logo lights protruding onto the ground ALL STANDARD EQUIPMENT they go from $6k -to $15k used in 2021. Look it up. Anyone who hates the 2nd gen is missing out big time.
Bought mine used in 2010 with 15k miles on it. Currently it has 70.5k miles with few maintenance in between. I would definitely buy another one if they ever come out with an updated one with the same form.
Bought me an xB last Christmas for $4,200 @ 196k. Ive always wanted one and this is really reassuring to hear. I could possibly see myself getting and engine & transmission change way down the road and keep it going.
Those 1st Gen. XB's are just gonna keep going up and up in value like the FJ cruisers. They have a cult following and they're 17 years old now, just wait another 10 you won't be able to touch one for under 14
Nice video. I have an '04, original owner, will be 18 years old in two weeks, 186K on the clock. A few things I've seen that need replacing once they get up in miles: wheel bearings & motor mounts. Other parts that I've replaced: water pump, starter, wheel cylinders, rear coil springs (originals rusted out and snapped), exhaust (rust), valve cover gasket, fuel filter, PCV, EVAP canister and catalytic converter. I change my shocks and struts around 170K to KYB too. Still on original alternator, ignition coils, AC, radiator, fuel pump. It burns a bit of oil, especially when cruising on the highways at 80 mph for extended periods, but not a leak to be found. Car should last forever, as long as the rust doesn't completely destroy it first. 👍
I bought my 06 a year ago from a single owner lady in Texas.my brother in laws 06 has 546000 in change on it original engine auto trans.when I got mine I added a temp gauge and brand new coolant system. Water pump Thermostat Temp fan switch’s Radiator.for less then 500$ it didn’t need it but be safe.
When my wife and I spotted one of these in 2004 we thought it was the silliest looking thing… It was so ugly we had to get one. We had a baby in 2005 and my WRX was too tight to fit the car seat. We traded it in and I’ve been in love with the XB ever since. We were so mad when they changed the design.
Just bought one in California for 1200 bucks. 182k miles on it. Did a little tune up and new brakes and she is running nice and I save so much money on gas compared to driving my 2013 Honda pilot exl

Needed a battery and oil change and spark plugs and a smog... it was a great deal for me lol
Toyota should build these again. I have a Gen2 and it's perfect for me, I love it. Although Scion was originally created for the youth market, every time I see an xB it's being driven by a middle aged adult.
I just bought a 2011 xb8 (1 of 2000) with only 16000 miles since new for 5k...( my neighbor bought it new, when she was 72) 0of course it's Voodoo blue.
Bought my 05 brand new 2 tenths of a mile it has 114on it now and looks still like new runs even better than ever only problem is clear coat and have put in wheel hubs both sides.

Both gens are worth money. It’s not a rebadge Toyota echo. Just completely box design out of. Only things that’s stay the same is the engine and transmission
Nice I just got a 09 xb in ok condition runs great everything works just replaced the passenger motor mount also need to replace the windshield also needs new headlamps assembly set and might have to replace the bumper and hood in the future but i love it👍😁
I have a navy blue 5 spd '06 and yep the engine is reliable as heck. Pushing close to 200k miles on it now. I've changed the pcv valve, pcv hose, water pump, ac compressor, did front and rear brakes. Synchros do seem like they're worn so that might be next.

I’d say this is why you protect carbon fiber parts, not why you don’t buy them lol. If you let paint or carbon sit in the sun or course it’s going to damage it over time.
I like you video bro I got a 2005 xB love this vehicle my only problem is that it needs a clutch job when I start to drive from a stop the engine shutters and jumps lol so what I do is just release the clutch without giving gas it’s ok on level road but if I’m on an incline road I must give gas otherwise car is fantastic

Those 2005 Scion xB RS3.0 with a 5 speed manual on envy green, are pain in the ass to find. Because they are considered a collectible cars. Those 1.5L 1NZ-FE are solid build. Very rare and very hard to find those beautiful box on wheels 😍😍😍😍😍😍. And yes, 5 speed manual’s transmission fluid needs to be change every 30k miles. On 4 speed AT is every 50k-60k miles.
@@toyotabrony I got over 171,000 on it but she runs very good the LED mirrors still work and I still have the DC sport muffler it came with it was my aunt's car for 15 years. She got it in 2005 I bought off her for 2500 in 2020 but the car needs a little love in the body area but overall great car.

I thought some of the earlier models along with the TC hadcan issue with burning excessive oil causing the engine to grenade. I could be wrong though and maybe just affected early TC models. I am wanting to buy an Xb but maybe a purple releaee series one. There was one fimir sell near me but sold right away within a week.
You mentioned on the first gen you could run e85? I just bought a 2005 Scion xB about a week ago and I have done some work to it as far as plugs, oil, starter, tires, windshield, valve cover gasket things like that.
@@wakawaka1976 so it’s a solid little car I ended up replacing the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and all the o rings as well and the ac is very cold even in hot Texas weather. I fixed this over a year ago and it’s still very cold. I don’t have any issues other than it’s a slow as car but it gets 30 mpg
The horse power has me a little concerned. I don't need a speed demon, but do need to merge onto highways safely. I don't want some monster truck rear ending me.

Coolant should be changed ever 3-5 years minimum
Has a timing CHAIN, not a belt that requires changing.

There is a Toyota Service Bulletin on the oil consumption. Talk to your Toyota dealer.

I have the 2012 RS 9.0 Xb. Worth 5,200 to 12,000 or more. Gen 1Xb is old old old and is a rebadged Toyota echo. 2nd Gen Xb is worth the money.

I like you video bro I got a 2005 xB love this vehicle my only problem is that it needs a clutch job when I start to drive from a stop the engine shutters and jumps lol so what I do is just release the clutch without giving gas it’s ok on level road but if I’m on an incline road I must give gas otherwise car is fantastic

Forgot mention they chew through wheel bearings. Had a 05 and an 06. Put multiple wheel bearings on both

Those 2005 Scion xB RS3.0 with a 5 speed manual on envy green, are pain in the ass to find. Because they are considered a collectible cars. Those 1.5L 1NZ-FE are solid build.
Very rare and very hard to find those beautiful box on wheels 😍😍😍😍😍😍. And yes, 5 speed manual’s transmission fluid needs to be change every 30k miles. On 4 speed AT is every 50k-60k miles.

@@toyotabrony I got over 171,000 on it but she runs very good the LED mirrors still work and I still have the DC sport muffler it came with it was my aunt's car for 15 years. She got it in 2005 I bought off her for 2500 in 2020 but the car needs a little love in the body area but overall great car.

I thought some of the earlier models along with the TC hadcan issue with burning excessive oil causing the engine to grenade. I could be wrong though and maybe just affected early TC models. I am wanting to buy an Xb but maybe a purple releaee series one. There was one fimir sell near me but sold right away within a week.
07 and up for the xBs, have oil issues. 1st gens are bulletproof. Idk about the tC, etc..
You mentioned on the first gen you could run e85? I just bought a 2005 Scion xB about a week ago and I have done some work to it as far as plugs, oil, starter, tires, windshield, valve cover gasket things like that.

@@wakawaka1976 so it’s a solid little car I ended up replacing the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and all the o rings as well and the ac is very cold even in hot Texas weather. I fixed this over a year ago and it’s still very cold. I don’t have any issues other than it’s a slow as car but it gets 30 mpg
