I seriously think this is the single best golf instruction video I have ever seen, and I have seen dozens if not hundreds.
Wow, thanks a bunch!
Been down a bunch of rabbit holes with YT golf instruction, and for my body type, age and athletic ability nothing touches Clay’s instruction (for tennis too)! Also got the smoothest Tennessee accent of all time ( pause).
Keep doing your thing my guy! 🙏
Thanks! Appreciate it.
This really helped my game! Thanks. I am 58 and have been playing golf since i was 12 and am now playing the best golf of my life! Thanks again!
Glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback.
This is the best Golf Tutorial Video I've ever seen. I've been play golf just for a month and having difficulties to do consistent shot. And your tutorial really helpful. I cant wait to go back on field
Clay I just got back from the range and had to post right away how useful this video was to me. This video has transformed my swing in a way no other video has...ever! I still have a long way to go but I just want to say thank you.
This can't get any better... You guys are the very best. Been following you and taking your lessons for a couple of years now and the quality of your instruction videos keep going up and up. Amazing.
Great to hear! Thanks for the kind words!
Best video teaching how to hit your irons pure. You had all the components and explained it in a simple way!
Increased my irons a distance of 30 yards
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Just starting the game. Thank you for the clear explanations with checkpoints throughout the swing. Helps to see body/hand position at each phase of the swing. Cheers!
No problem!
this is EXACTLY what I needed. Well done video. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Why would anyone, anyone give a thumbs down?? Clay, you are the best!!
Haha...thanks!
You are the best instructor I have ever seen on the Internet and trust me I have seen dozens. My club face was always open and I never could square the club face because I didn’t realize that my wrists were not bowing down like you just showed
Wow, thanks!
Clay, my man. I’ve watched all your videos. Improved my game from high 80s-90s to traveling and playing in tournaments with mid to low 80s CONSISTENLY. All I wanted to say is thank you. Keep up all the hard work and sharing your knowledge.
Glad to hear it
Nice of you to spend so much time teaching people
I'm glad you put this video out. I have been suffering from the open club face and short distance for the last few weeks and could not figure out how to square the club face at impact. This video has the answer for my problem. Thanks.
My pleasure!
My goto UA-cam coiach. after a break for 5 years, i already (after 3 weeks). Hit the ball better and feel better about Golf in general. Thanks for putting your time into this.
Thanks!
My break is at 19 years. Can't wait to go pratice again using these tips. Thanks.
I'm amazed how good you are at hitting the bad shots for reference. Pretty skillful :-)
haha...Thanks!
i'm 14 been golfing 3 times in the past week because there is a driving range 5 minutes from my house and now I can't stop watching golf videos. I unfortunately am not very good at the sport yet and have only hit the ball about 150 yrds with a driver but it is so fun. I have been using my friends driver but I need to save up for my own set or something sucks that they're so expensive.
Keep practicing and you'll get there. You can get used sets online for less.
Check Craigslist or Play it Again Sports
Thanks Clay. I really needed this as I’m in the rebuild the swing and mental case phase of my iron swings. I’ll try it out at the range.
My pleasure!
Excellent video on keeping lag tension through impact! This will help me explain it to my students. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely a great video. Can't wait to try it. Thanks Duey
Best videos I have seen to date! Ill update you tomorrow after I play.
Thanks!
Literally gained 25yrds on my shot the first day after watching this. You're amazing bro, I can't wait to keep practicing and continue unlocking my Irons
Best tutorial/explanation I’ve seen on UA-cam so far. Well done!
Glad it was helpful!
I agree. What i like about Clay's presentation is the lack of golf jargon. So many instructors speak a language of their own that only pros and other instructors understand.
Hands down this video made my swing so much better thank you so much
Glad it helped!
Only 1/3 through video and had to comment! This is amazing. Been fixing my swing to get more consistent (had too inside swing and no proper hip turn, leading to hooks and flip issue) and I overcorrected, creating the stand and flip issue/steap. Can't wait to adjust with the shallowing properly (was fighting the fear of shank and the roll hands will really help me). Thank you! Great content!
Thanks and thanks for sharing!
All vedios have been benificial to the improvement of my game
Very good video that explained the process and showed it clearly. Drills were good. Now i know what i'm doing wrong. Thanks Clay. Paul from Australia
You're welcome!
Thanks Clay, finally a pro that showed and explained to me the piece I have been missing for 30 years - the turning “in” of the wrist to close the club head. I have been away from golf for 16 years but now at practice I am hitting such nice compressed irons. I have had a good looking swing forever, reach sub 80 rounds when playing my top days, but never consistent, ever so often losing it high and to the right, not understanding, rolling over the wrists to compensate, having some quick hooks, the sense to be forced to rush a little bit. The sense of the ball sliding sideway on the face. Now they don’, full stop
This is world class stuff! Grateful /Andy
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks clay.. Great video once again
Glad you enjoyed it
Got a birdie today because of your advice Clay! First one ever. Thanks!
Nice work!
@SweatyStartup, I've listened to your podcast, haha. Very insightful. Fun to see you on here!
Your videos help, fantastic, thanks!
Thanks! Glad to here they are helpful.
I have to tell you that this video helped me so much. I hit my irons better than I ever have in my life today. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Been golfing for 30 years and low to mid single digit handicap. ALWAYS struggled with my irons and never de-loft them. Have always flipped and slid (and probably stand up) but I use my timing to try and compensate. Most days I'm ok, but some days I'm terrible. I overcome it with hitting good drives, chips and putts. The rolling the hands over is something I have never seen. Not like you show. It feels to me like a reverse of the flip that I do. I also am steep. I will be heading to the range this afternoon or tomorrow and trying all of this and have no doubt if I put in the practice, my iron game will improve significantly. I really appreciate the UA-cam video. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! Hope the video helps.
These tips have been great use. Keep up good content
Thanks!
what a fantastic set of tips. instead of having to watch multiple separate posts, Clay has captured all the key checkpoints in 30mins and unravelled the mystery of why I cannot generate distance. Despite the right motions and actions, I would invariably spear the ball to the right if I accelerated my club. Now I know the trick is in the wrists! Cant wait to hit the range again.
Thanks! Best of luck
These tips helped me immediately. Relying on athleticism wasn't enough, understanding club position and why has helped immensely. Now to find your tips on the Driver.
Glad it helped!
Nice Class and tip
For me once I started bowing that wrist i started sweeping the ball more coming in shallow and really started elevating my longer irons up into the air a solid 10-15 more yards and adding much more distance and spin with the loft. Timing those wrists is big and practicing doing it for sure. Great info and spot on as always Clay.
Thanks and thanks for sharing!
Tried applying the upward facing wrist hinge on the range earlier today. Couldnt believe what results I was seeing, crushing irons/hybrids an inceedible distance. Unbelievable lesson, improved my tekkers no end. 200 balls hit, 90% of which were crushed 😳. Tremendous lessson and full kudos to you Clay!
Thanks Clay. I have been studying good golf swing techniques vs mine for yeas (I'm a 9 hdcp). Your explanation and demonstration is the best i've seen. Thank you! Can't wait to get to the practice range.
Glad to help
This is the best video for me! Whenever I’ve tried to shift my weight from right to left, the ball always go right side. I felt the club face was opened but I didn’t know I should’ve turn my wrist to make square the club face. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Really helps you to understand how to hit the ball to its maximum potential.
Premier golf instructor !!!
Thanks
Thanks!
This is the best golf instruction I have come across on UA-cam and I've watched A LOT! Thanks Clay for already helping my game, was struggling to break 80, shot 77 this week!
Wow....thanks!
by far this is the best golf instruction i ever watched good explaning how to square and how to delofting the club thank you!
Great to hear!
Clay where were you 30 years ago, I am 70 years old only had 3 lessons. But what you teach is right on point. Before your lessons I was driving 200 to 220 with what you have shown I now hit 265, irons are 25 yard longer. Now consistently. I need more practice, it will come. The great actress Julie Andrews, said, amateurs practice until they get it right. Profesional practice until they see no wrong. Thanks again
I was just a little kid 30 years ago! 😀 Glad the instruction is helping so much. Keep up the good work!
Great video explanation guys!
Thanks so much!
Great video and the fact that you actually hit those shots that consistently is impressive. Thank you!
Now I know why DJ cups his wrist
Glad you enjoyed!
Just watched the video and saved it! Explains a lot why I'm so inconsistent. Heading out now to try out the advice - in particular the hip turn and the club trajectory and wrist flex. Thanks in great expectations!
Glad it helped!
Clay is about to get a lot of my money, this video is gold.
Thanks!
Fantastic information.
Glad you think so!
Very good info -has helped improve my contact tremendously-thanks
Glad it helped
This is by far the best iron tutorial on the internet, heading to the range tomorrow to have a practice before I'm due on the course Thursday. Irons are killing my game at the minute so hopefully this gives me a good direction to start fixing the issue!
Thanks!
this video is frigging amazing
Thanks!
I have played five rounds since I watched your video (many times). I don't have it grooved yet but the move from the top into the slot gives me a real feeling of power through contact. I am struggling a bit with rolling the wrists to square the club face but it will come with practice I think. You have the best video on this that I have seen!
Great job!
Clay is super easy to understand, definitely helping my game.
Glad you think so!
Yes
멋진 영상 잘 보았습니다..레슨 많은 도움이 되었습니다.
Explained brilliantly
Thank you!
So solid. Always just enough detail to not overwhelm. KY players represent!
Haha...thanks!
Hey Clay, I never leave comments but I have to for this video. I am a noobie to the game of golf. I love the game. Tried taking lessons from 2 different “pros”. After watching this video a bulb turn on.went to the simulator and wow I’m hitting the ball correctly now. Still have a lot of work to do but just wanted to say thanks !
My pleasure! Glad to hear it's helping!
Easily the best golf tutorial I have seen. Watched this and hit the range right after. I have never hit my irons better. This video perfectly describes shallowing the club and allows you to visualize how to do it.
Great to hear!

Clay Ballard...Always the best tips on UA-cam.
I appreciate that
Ok so I know this is an older video but it kind of gave it a chance since I've been having a problem with my irons. A little back ground I started playing when I was 28 I am now about to turn 60 on June 22. Well I stop playing about 2010 and started again beginning of 2019. So I started from the beginning and tried to work on my swing. Well back in the day I used to hit my 8 iron 160. When I began again I now I am older but still I should be hitting it at least 150. Well was having a terrible time getting back to my distances. Well I watched this video and understood exactly what he was teaching. I went today and warmed up. Well I started hitting my irons using this technique and guess what? I was hitting my 8 iron and avg of 172, my 6 iron 200 yrds, my 9 165 yrds, My driver!! 302!!!!! Yup and I am 60!!!!! Man thank you sooooo much!!!
Always good to practice these things, which every golfer should do.
100% agree 🙂
Thanks for the video
No problem!
Wow. I am 34 and have been playing since I was 14. After watching this video and hit 100 balls at the range. It was the straightest and longest I’ve ever hit my irons. Life changing! I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time and never knew it. Thank you!
Awesome! Keep up the good work!
I am a 10 handicap and this tutorial is a great learning tool and hoping to improve to single digit this year. My son is just picking up the game and has a nice natural swing. Your example of tossing a ball down the range is great visual for him to see the importance of rotating the hips!
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck to you two!
First time I hear about bowing the lead wrist. Great advice !
Glad it was helpful!
@@TopSpeedGolf I went to the driving range and worked on it. It was relatively easy to figure it out with irons. I started with my 9 iron that I usually use for distances of 130 yards and I ended up hitting close to 145 yards. 5 iron was close to 200yards. But even better, most hits were straight hits... no fades. It was a little more difficult with my driver. Just need to work more on it. I noticed if I slow down my swing with the driver it helps and I still get quite good distances. I guess with the driver we all try to hard :) Thanks again!!
Clay is really helping my game. Thanks. I should be watching you on Sundays final rounds with your swing! Stay safe. Thanks
Glad to help
Really helpful videon
Love the way you explain driving the nail into the ground to create compression. Great tips!! I have a feeling this is gonna help my iron shots,, thanks.
Thanks! My pleasure.
oh man that wrist roll, can't wait to try that out. I can get to parallel and turn my hips but still miss sometimes to the right. Something new to think about
Best of luck!
good hints here
Thank you!
You bet!
this guy is pretty awesome with the instruction. I wish I found this channel sooner. keep up the good work.
I appreciate that!
This is one of the best explanations I have seen for this move. Very well done.
Wow, thanks!
Excelente. Pareciera que lo hiciste para mi. Mañana lo pongo en practica en el driving. Saludos desde argentina
Excelente. ¡La mejor de las suertes!
Great video, found my mistakes in it, thanks...
Glad it helped!
Thank you
My pleasure!
I've watched tons of golf channel on utube but to me TSG is one of the best as the details in his explanations really open up my eyes to my issues etc. & The explanation is clear and concise. Keep it up
Wow....thanks!
I stopped playing golf out of pure frustration because I couldn’t hit my irons well. Been to many teaching pros over the course of 30 years of playing and none of them explained it quite like this video, i.e. the slot and the wrist rotation on the downswing. Can’t wait to dust off my old clubs and try this at the range. Thank you Clay!
Best of luck!
I watched this video, went outside immediately in the backyard and did exactly what I just saw and I'll be damn!!!! Ball jumps off club and feels so much easier striking the ball. The wrist turn was key. I'm new to golf but this has helped me tremendously. Not to mention I've watch tons of videos and nothing did for me what this one did! #FACTS Thanks!!!!
Awesome! Glad it helped
There is not much instruction on this essential topic. It's as if teachers know this and keep it secret, focusing too much on other areas of the swing, whereas where the rubber hits the road is really where it's at.
This is the best video i've seen the diffence big time
Thanks!
Wow shallowing out the club helped so much. Many draws were hit
Glad to hear!
Ok can’t wait to go the range because I do everything correctly until it comes to impact zone and then my right hand takes over. In the northeast so I’m practicing on a mat with rubber balls flying around my living room!! I’ll keep you POSTED!
This dude is legit! As a 16, who shoots 9 over one day and then 23 over the next, he explains this so simple and pure...This game is not about powering through it or showing how much of a better athlete I am today......Mind Blown and Damn, I love this game for guys like this!!!!....Thank you Clay!!!
Thanks!
thanks
thank you. a lot of unanswered questions for me got answered with this vid.
Glad I could help!

Such good content, really enjoyed this trio. Ty Clay & Q.
Thanks!
Seems like it should be so easy! Aaaaaa🤬 I love golf!
Clay can you teach my kids how to play golf? Enjoy your instruction very much, super helpful.
Yeah, the videos can help golfers of all ages
I implemented this recently and it works like a charm. The key for me, was @ the 3'47" mark. Gets my club perfectly on plane, and you can feel theres more power packed into that position. I even now focus at the spot in front of the ball and am getting an extra clubs distance on ALL my irons. ...and flying over the green. lmao. THANKS!...SO much for this video!
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
@@TopSpeedGolf Im curious to know what you think about me "focusing on the spot in front of the ball"? (my thinking being that "the ball is incidental" anyway. Its seems to have me a lot more accurate and / or a higher percentage of the time, hitting the ground AFTER the ball...) (?)
Had to pause the video at 2:40 and let you know this is exactly my challenge. I feel I need to use my right shoulder/arm to create power, but I'm actually going over the top and slicing my irons or worse, topping everying. I'm looking forward to hearing how to correct that........
Game changer
Thanks!
I've added about 20 yards to each one of my clubs by hitting them "pure". For me the biggest eye opener and best practice was to open up my stance which forced my hands to be ahead of the ball and really compress the ball. The sound is amazing as well.
Man, you guys done a great job with this lesson 👍
Thanks! 😃
The slow motion views are what really helps me to ‘see’ the moves you talk about making. Real time is just too fast to learn a move.
Thanks for sharing! You can also slow down the video in the settings on UA-cam.
Such great instructions, I told a few guys at my club to take a look at you guys videos. After practicing a little the iron drills to deloft the club i was able to feel the slingshot in my swing for the first time and i gained 2 clubs . Unfortunately when i showed up on the course i we t back to my old swing , so i guess I'll go practice some more on the range untill it gets natural so I don't switch it on the course
Thanks! It will take some time and reps for this to be course ready. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
