Wake up babe new William Basinski album
This is like the soundtrack of a ghost hopelessly stuck; wandering around the human world and refusing to let go of something, or trying to figure out why things turned out the way they did.
Have you seen “a ghost story” ?
@@andree2449 ❤
@@andree2449 Yes. This melancholy reminds me of the atmosphere of that film.
This album has the hypnotic depths of peak Lustmord, the sound palate of SH era Yamaoka, and the airy atmosphere of Aphex Twin's Ambient works vol 2. I have found a new love.
ua-cam.com/video/pt03QG1R-Zc/v-deo.html
Definitely reminds me of SAW 2.
speaking of Lustmord. can you recommend his albums that sound like Lamentations?
@@SewSawThief That's actually a really hard question. Lustmord's solo work doesn't use the sort of classical music elements on many tracks here, but the sound palate stuff is somewhat reminiscent of parts of Where The Black Stars Hang (Metastatic Resonance I think is one of the greatest ambient tracks ever made), The Monstrous Soul, and arguably Purifying Fire.
If I were to recommend any Lustmord more generally then I would say his collaborative soundtrack work in recent years is fantastic. In particular The Empty Man and First Reformed have some amazing parts, The Empty Man specifically has stuff that blurs the line between like Tibetan horns and distorted synth vocals.
@@PseudoMystic thank you so much! I've tried for a few years to get into Lustmord, but it ended up with some random raw dark songs. I guess this is what he's all about, and I like that kind of music, but I just wanted a lighter starting point to go further and deeper after that.
listening to my favorite tracks since my teen years with "for whom the bell tolls" in the background is something else, it's like feeling the end of every stage of my life
''O' My Daughter, O' My Sorrow'' is so so so so beautiful. Almost sneaking up on you like ''Forgive'' by Burial
jesus christ thank u for directing me to this song, unexpected love just happened
Holy shit someone else listens to Burial? I could not in this entire world find anyone else. This just made my day
@@desapole I'm saying this because I haven't met a single person!
I do! And in trans lol
Theres a slowed down version of forgive on soundcloud that could be worth you checking out. Even more melancholy
Great album, good to know he's still with us

The wheel of fortune.
It's something.
Epic.
So good. Such a sense of derangement and liberation
gives me some Twin Peaks The Return vibes
Basinski is a master of his craft. Signature aesthetics

perfect soundtrack to my crippling depression. cheers
try this (not spam just discovered him some days ago and totally obsessed):

[Harold Budd's Abandoned Cities album has entered the depression music chatroom]
right there with ya bud
If all people are depressed (for media informations) why most people are overhappy in tv or social network. The depression is not a joke my friend
Its like the things you didn’t experience but you have memories from them
Thats called imagination
Memory is dynamic. When there are gaps in your past, it fills them with things you never experienced, memory stores and creates
Its impossible to have memories from things you didnt experience cause u must have a basis=experience.
Deja vu is other thing.
Or imagination,fantasy.
So u have a good imagination.
William Basinski helped me to know God, as an atheist, without my awareness when I was 18. Now, at age 30, I bask in the formless forms. Thank you William
Kudos to you
Really I’d think it would do the opposite, but anyways good for you🙂
@@elilope7992 well back then I knew there was a feeling I'd get from music and ambient music in general. That 'timeless' 'infinite' void feeling. Only after being fully engulfed in that spaceful(less)ness did I realize what it actually was. Good day yall
@@Knifymoloko makes sense
@@elilope7992 This music is very sacred to people. Profound internal experiences mean alot to people and we express it in very varied different ways, some things you just cant explain, most emotions and conclusions of thought experienced through cathartic music is one of them. I'm into god alot and I think he exists in these kinds of music.
You can hear it’s Basinski from the very first second on, in the most positive way.
The composition "O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow" transported me to distant memories as if I were under hypnosis. A fantastic musician!
my soul yearns
Punch and Judy is like being in the bowels of the abyss.
Fun
I want 'Tear Vial' to be played at my funeral... I will die a happy man.
Wheel of fortune is absolutely fantastic. Foreboding, yet uplifting. I cant describe it, all I know is Basinski never disappoints.
Perfect music for "I could've saved this nut" moment.
@Ryan Smith post-nut clarity
Aww.
@Ryan Smith poor man
This is art
A good source up there told me William Basinski’s playlist it’s been played at heaven’s reception area as a welcome sound and to ease the tension
Wow. fu#@ing intense. The best music release I've heard in a good while.
It really is intense. In a way that no one would use that word in
I think this album is a 7 out of 10 which was entirely my opinion not influenced by anyone else
@Goodie2shoes good point I hadn't thought of that. I've never been influenced by anyone else though.
@@Gpig20 except that one thought you hadn't thought of before obviously
@@gado__ good point I hadn't thought of that. I've never been influenced by anyone else besides you and that other person though
@@Gpig20 and I guess you also had a childhood... Which influences people a great deal
At least 8th the first track is darkness turned into music.
Sample for last 3 songs: La Wally: Ebben? - N'andrò lontana - Compagnia d'Opera Italiana
thanks
good ol' Billy done did it again!
Tear Dial, "Melancholia" vibes
I wish the first track was about 5x longer
Maestro!
LOVE this record. Very excited about purchasing.
sounds like Eno on a lyrica binge. Dark but compelling.
What or who is lyrica
Pregabalin. The original and best version the generics vary in quality
What a glorious work! Incredible sounds, Unique.

Great music for 2021

The Wheel of Fortune is so moving. I hear something of My Bloody Valentine. Might be the loops or the use of the sampler.

It's the soundtrack to walking down a deserted back road, bordered by a forest, with ominous headlights in the distance, slowly coming towards you....

Tape Counter. Great name.🙂
this album remembers me The Caretaker (musician)
yep
Right, that comparison was in the back of my mind too. What I know of these two artists seems to suggest that in a way they are exploring the same topic from different starting points - how memories fade. Leyland Kirby tries to represent how the mind disintegrates and memories fade away, creating, at first an uneasy nostalgia which becomes increasingly fragmented and dislocated. Then, from what I've heard, William Basinski is interested in how recorded sound fades, e.g. The Disintegration Loops. Here, these sounds are still memories of a kind, memories which might last far longer and, at first give the recordist a false sense of permanence but in the end they too dissolve into the deep shadows.
@@adrianwolmarans thanks!
@@adrianwolmarans I think you're overthinking, tbh. It is true what you said regarding them, but you're over analyzing things later on, lol.
Yeah.At second track i say "the Caretaker" ? But ,Leyland Kirby/the Caretaker who his this year? the Caretaker is really dead?

Indeed
Felt some ''The Caretaker'' vibes on Paradise Lost
I wish i can enjoy that music without remembering my friend and our past events. I wish i could unhook him from that music and finally enjoy it like everyone else
is there any similar albums like this one?

Sounds a lot like Billy ripped off Tape Loop Orchestra's 'Return To The Light' on this one.

In a future, when someone asks you about how 2020 and the pandemic felt, you can show them this album as a soundtrack
As much as I love this on UA-cam--I can't get into a real flow when I have to watch 1 or 2 commercials after every 'song'. It ruins it for me. I think maybe this is why people could be pushed to find this...somewhere else if you catch my meaning.
