I had a 2001 Catera and they are really solid, nice driving cars with good balance, taut ride, sharp steering, great brakes, excellent ergonomics - just a little short on power. if only they didn't stuff the Omega full of extra insulation, detune the cam profiles, and ditch the six-speed manual when they brought it over... talk about lost in translation! I might still have mine except no one wants to work on these things, the Caddy dealers always hated them and the indie shops won't touch them.
In Germany the Opel Omega was a quite succesful car in it‘s class. Sure, it was a bit cheaper to buy and to run as it‘s competitors. But Opel or should I say GM didn‘t bring a real successor on it‘s way in time. So, the Omega run too long (94-03) and the only facelift was in 2000. My father owned one for ten years and loved it. It was a 2003 station wagon, called „Carvan“ in Opel languge. It had a 2,5-litre straight -6 Turbodiesel - made by BMW. The perfect cruiser for long distances through europe. Big, comfy, reliable and economic. I miss the Omega.
The CTS was the successor. I don’t know what ‘CTS’ means, but I think of it as ‘Catera Touring Sedan’, since ‘STS’ is ‘Seville Touring Sedan’ and ‘DTS’ is ‘Deville Touring Sedan’
Yet another rebadged German import that flopped because of poor marketing and advertising. The Opel Omega (Cadillac Catera) and Ford Sierra XR4i (Merkur XR4Ti) were both 2 such examples.
Gto got the 5.7 and 6.0 and 6.2 and 7.0 did fit no problem and with auto or stick but i had the catera 1 st gen and 2nd dealership sales car model that was not meant to be sold and a GTO and the cts -V in change over only one i didn't waste money on was black wing due can't find parts and a good one
I still want one of these the interior is amazing and yeah the engines are trash but with that being said the 3800v6 is a great engine and could be adapted to fit
Honestly this should have been an Oldsmobile or a Pontiac
Yeah and they should be added Buick 3800 with supercharger if they really want sporty thing

This was also the base for the Holden commodore and that did come with a 400hp V8
Caddy has the right idea with their BLACKWING with a sharp body and I seen a orange CT4 BLACKWING took my breath away
4:31 Intend to have a long and popular life... and GM canceled this in 2001 :)

To be fair, he ends every review that way.

So that was the Original CTS
Ah yes, the infamous Cadillac POS.
I had one of these!!! I loved it!!! Got into a cts v next now I’ve got a sts v
In 2024 i still do drive the german equivalent Opel Omega 2.2 manual. Excellent car still today.
Cadillac Catera is beautiful car. Catera is Opel Omega from Europe
opel omega. other brands are license cars.
bmw m-5 vs caddy catera's? is there a gm made counterpart? I like the body-style on-these🙂
they should have put a LS in there

The sport v in black was a mix of them two and thats what i had
Sport....
I still like this car. I know I’m a weirdo.
First time i see this cadillac at first i thought it was a opel omega and after i watched this i found out they are almost the same car
Yet as per usual Motorweek got their predictions wrong again.
Shoulda had a V8
slapping a cadillac badge on an opel does not make it a caddy...this is why car companies have seperate nameplates w/in the same company....
Should have left them supercharged.
