  • Magnus Walker is a legend and well known in the Porsche scene, but what's it like driving one of his famous builds? The STR II was famously sold at Pebble Beach in 2013, and has since found its way to the UK, where it's once again available via collectingcars.com/for-sale/1...
I find out what it's like driving a Porsche 911 hot rod built by the Urban Outlaw.

Enjoyed that Lee . Saw it at boxengasse a couple of years back … but also remember at Simply Porsche ages ago and being amazed to see in person . Gear change sounded lovely and precise

I agree that hotrod Porsches need to exist, but, as the stock of eligible air cooled cars dwindled so has the opportunity to build one.

Didn't he sell that for $300k at auction?
The blue hood lines are taken from the original colour of the car.

      Then there’s something wrong. 275hp/1000kg vs 300hp/1400kg?

Lee, I love what you're doing and my next point has nothing to do with you. I just don't understand why people have such a boner for Magnus. 911 owners have been hotrodding their cars decades before he came onto the scene, and he doesn't even build his cars-they are built for him. I'm constantly baffled how a bit of self promotion and his unorthodox (for the generic Porsche crowd) looks got him so well known in this space. Cool, I guess? Just don't understand the appeal.

Most people aren't trying to promote themselves and an image. They own a car, maybe post on a forum or whatever. Magnus has put himself out there. A lot. He does a lot of stuff with old 911s. A lot. And he's easy to remember. His image and to an extent his cars aren't to my taste but It's not remotely hard to understand why he gained the profile he has. Even a "regular" looking guy who had done so much with old 911s would gain quite a profile if they put themselves out there as much as Magnus. Add in his rather particular image and it's all pretty inevitable. I'm not a huge fan of Magnus, but at least he drives his cars and isn't obsessed with having the latest shiny shiny GT car or covering everything in protection film and wanking on about deviated stitching and Rolexes. He's a lot better than a solid 50% of the so-called Porsche community, that's for sure.

I like his (literal) story of rags to riches and his cars . But his twisted accent REALLY grates, so can’t watch him! 😂

What's the difference between putting himself out there and self-promotion? And better than 50% of the Porsche community? By what metric? Not trying to be pedantic-just trying to understand your point.

@@brewskiesbro I'm not pro Magnus Walker. Not that keen on his image or his cars. But at least he drives them and does a lot with them. Most modern Porsche owners are more interested in deviated stitching, covering everything in paint protection film and shiny shiny, status status. I dare say Walker is rather image conscious too, but at least he has some imagination and doesn't just queue up for the latest GT car like everyone else.
