Queen of covers, and I mean that as the most sincere compliment. Can take any hit out there and make it her own, which is an extraordinary ability. Fabulous voice, I never get tired of listening to you, Joan!!!!
What an incredible singer with unbelievable phrasing, Joan Osborne sets one very high watermark, indeed. This woman is a singer amongst singers and a rare find.
The girl has it all what a voice...True singer with feelings...Makes the old Motown songs sound fresh with respect to the original performers....hats off the Joan O..
It broke my heart when she was nominated for a Grammy 7 times in 1995, only to lose out in each catagory to Alanis Morissette, who had just appeared in music videos that year as well and was more popular with the younger crowd.` At least she finally won in 2011 for Best Blues Album. She deserved it.
Yeah... I've never liked alines Morissette's singing nor her music style. She couldn't sing a single song without that damned yodel she liked using so much. It wasn't original, and it sure as hell didn't sound good. Ms Joan Osborne has a remarkable and very rich, powerful voice and is a true musician. alanis was just a flash in the pan as far as I'm concerned. Oh well, onto more important things. I am currently waging war against pollution. My PSA Video. Please watch past 00:01:47 for an important message. This video is only 2:12 minutes long: ua-cam.com/video/u5NRRvjrG78/v-deo.html
I think she's great. A few years ago, when she was touring with the Dead, there was a video clip of her singing Alabama Getaway. Joan rocks! I hope she is happy on Valentines Day. Cheers
Joan, I can't wait for you to come back to the West Coast. Humphrey's or where ever. One of the great experiences is hearing and seeing you live. Hope everyone is well.
i couldn't have said it better myself. i have everything she's put out as well, and i worship it all. every single one of her songs are sung with such passion. even the simple ones. she can do no wrong.
So glad I discovered what a great singer Joan Osborne truely is,hands down my favourite UA-cam discovery this year........I mean of course I knew "one of us" but if only I'd discovered she is so much better than that song ever was.
I first heard Joan when she guested in the rockumentary called standing in the shadow of Motown. I looked her up and found she mainly did religious songs. I'm so glad she's now doing other styles. Check out her version f the stones song shake your hips.
If this sounds like elevator music, it's because it's not the final album track. Still lots of production to add (back up vocal for example). Listen to the version on Breakfast in Bed. It's the best cover of this tune I've heard.
wow. she made it her own while still remaining true to the original. not an easy thing to do when talking about gladys knight. i think she did a great job with this one.
Joan Osborne: a national treasure. Imagine a white chick how can belt it out with the best of Motown (the Funk Brothers), and who can jam tit-for-tat with the survivors of the Grateful Dead (Phil and Friends)...her original material deserves to be reckoned with, as well.
Where's JACK! Bring out Jack! I saw Joan 3 times at the Metro in Saratoga, NY... before she did "one of us"... some of the best live stuff I've ever seen!

Saw Joan on the DVD "Standing In The Shadows" the story of the Funk Brothers who backed almost every Motown hit. She is as good as it gets.
As well as The Funk Brothers !!!
Joan has been a fave of mine since Relish. I have everythings she's put out. I adore her voice. To me it's like the voice of God.

Where's JACK! Bring out Jack! I saw Joan 3 times at the Metro in Saratoga, NY... before she did "one of us"... some of the best live stuff I've ever seen!
Saw her at Lilith in 97...awesome performer
You can bet they tried both a 49 & 47... This studio has several of both mics. The mic used however is a U67 ( a tube mic as well ) not an 87...
This is a better version than the one on her album (breakfast in bed).
I love seeing the rest of the musicians in action and giving faces to the instruments!
Joan and motown ...GOOD . WP3NK .
@Knobbleous yeah i just downloaded that song...I was really upset with the male voices added
Amen Markshields...
The best part actually is when she sings "I'm so confused" at 0:27
What a Great Bass! Whis I Could be as good!
The lady’s got soul
