Once Zero is fully upgraded, and (more importantly) you're playing the European/Japanese version instead of the American one, he's actually not that bad of a playable character. He still pales in comparison to his X4-X6 self, but it's better than nothing.
I know this is a bad game in all but around 15:37 anteator mentions stuff about “blue” and “red” but I get the vibe of the zero series from that, blue being described with lies that have ruined the earth kinda fits with copy X in some regard but how he describes red being sealed away forever could be a parallel to how zero was sealed away before the zero series. Sorry if this sounds dumb or has bad grammar.
Honestly, one of my favorite PlayStation 2 games! I know it didn't offer the energy the rest of the series had, but this was an experimental title in the end of the day. For what it has, I appreciate and enjoy it.

You can unlock him either by clearing all 8 Maverick stages or by rescuing a total of 64 reploids in those stages. Since there's 16 per stage, that means you can unlock X after a minimum of 4 stages if you rescue everyone perfectly. You also have to go back to get the parts for the Glide Armor, I believe. ...This game did him dirty. XD
The worst part is that his 3 hit combo doesnt even work properly on bosses, the subsequent attacks dont ignore the I-frames from the last attack, which is ridiculous.
Despite the horrible gameplay, the transition from 2d to 3d was a bit difficult during the ps2 era, not all games can be easily transitioned unless the developers know how to develop it correctly.
I feel like the game wouldn't have been half as bad if the movespeed wasn't so slow. The voice lines repeating to the point of earrape is kinda funny, imo. But there were def other problems. Lmao

Zero is so painful to play, but watching you play him so skillfully is so fun.
Sure is but he's still a charming character. Zero makes us appreciate sword-play even more.

@@wanolox9975USA version removed the aditional damage of the weapons when you use the weakness against the bosses iirc.

Red could also means Omega being banished away from Space, or both Omega and Zero being sealed

Zero scheint mit seinem Schwert keine gefährlichen Proteaner zu vernichten, sondern als würde er seinen Ruf aufpolieren aber die Musik ist sehr cool

I used Zero for all boss fights cus I didn't care about the other too.
