I'm replacing the transom and I notice that the part of my outboard that hooks over the transom will only fit 1 1/2 inches. How will you connect your outboard? After reading the comments I researched the cost of materials using fiberglass and realized that it will be much less expensive for me to use Seacast or other similar liquid, plus an amazing less amount of time and effort.
I appreciate your comment. It caused me to actually do the math today and that changed my mind about how I'm going to complete my transom replacement. I was about to step into a deep swamp.
Thank you been looking all over youtube for some one doing the transom this way just you and one other is all I found .are u using polyester resin to putty the transom in or epoxy I'm struggling trying to figure out what I need to use for mine
All Polyester resin, since none of this boat had Epoxy back in 1972. I like working with Polyester and its cheaper, especially when you need sooooo much resin. Used over 45 gallons so far and just bought 12 more gallons!!
True craftsman. You could probably use that Mako as a mine sweeper, she is heavy duty.
Thank you Jeffrey! Hope I never find any mines out there, but if I do, the Mako will survive. Haha
God bless your pocket lol im rebuilding a similar boat. What an awesome project! Great job 👍
Thanks Justin! Yeah, never intended to do this project and trying to keep cost down without skimping on quality.
Should have used coosa, no rot, wood always rots, water always finds a way

Seacast costs less than half of what u spent, 3 times stronger, and more bouant . 45 gallons? Holly crap thats 2700.00 bucks just in resin.

I used polyester as well
What type of resin have you been using for this project?
Staying with Polyester resin like the original boat was made from. I don't like the cost or working with Epoxy resin.
You fibreglassed over the gelcoat mate
Where is the gelcoat I glassed over? I ground it all off of the outer edge of the transom before glassing it.
