My Uncle Joe, performing his country single, "That's why I need you", produced by the Oweman record label in 1973. Listening to it brought me back to days as a kid, visiting my family in the woods of West Virginia at my grandparents house. My Grandpa, uncles and cousins were all so talented. Starting with my Grandpa who they say could have and should have played at The Grand Ole Opery. Mom believes he was afraid to fail and didn't pursue it. And then there was Uncle Jimmy, who died at a pilot in the Vietnam war before I was born. Mom said Uncle Jimmy had the looks of James Dean. She said he was destined for stardom as he even drew crowds at the grocery store, bringing his guitar along to play their favorite songs whenever he went to the store. He later had a bridge in West Virginia named in honor of him after he passed away. He, as the story goes was the best. But, as my mom would say, make no mistake they were all good, drawing crowds and packed venues wherever they went. Even my cousin Jesse made a nice career for himself in music.
Although, like the rest, Jesse never making it big time (but he came pretty close to say the least). Uncle Jerry, Uncle Dennis and more would play with the rest of the musicians in my family in those days back then. It was pretty special, holding a special place it my heart that I will always remember. But it was always about more than the above. It was always about family. And that's what made it so great. It also has inspired me to keep pushing no matter what life dishes out. I truly believe that we all have greatness within us. With that said, Rise Up Champs. If you haven't reached where you've wanted to reach at this point in life, remember that there's still time on the clock. Because through it all, the Journey is what we will remember. God Bless. May your Journey be the best. May you be the best! Enjoy. Click to play.
