My initial test wasn't very promising, it lost my leg immediately and everything was very jittery. But will give it a more serious look in the next few days as it is a bit more affordable than the other two options.
@@hyperbolicfilms I have been on a similar journey and am having mixed results with Kinect. it works on my older PC and not my newest one which is annoying. It constantly restarts, did you run into this issue and if so how did you fix it? Cheers
@@KeremAvclAudioProduction My best successes have been with the original Kinect 360, because you can run two on the same laptop with little fuss. Using them with iPISoft has been good, I found that it had the easiest workflow.
@@hyperbolicfilms The first Kinect? Im using the Xbox 360 Kinect. It keeps restarting but works fine on older hardware. Must be a driver issue but I'm stumped. Haver the SDK for it, drivers etc. ALso toying with the iPad Pro for importing to 3dexchange via an app called MoCap.
In the time since I made this video, there have been a few big developments with video motion capture tools. Radical is highly improved now, and there are a few free motion capture from video sites that popped up over the last few months, though they generally require that you film your scene from multiple angles to work. I’ve since done two projects with Radical.
I am still deciding between Brekel Body 3 and iPISoft. Brekel allows you to mix different sensors, so you can use Kinect 360 with Kinect Ones. It’s also simpler to align sensors than IPISoft, but I haven’t had as good results yet.
I’ve since tried iPISoft with 2 360 Kinects, and it’s soooo much easier to set up than two Xbox One Kinects, and the results were good. I am about to buy iPISoft in order to make that my main setup now. They have a sale for a few more weeks at 30% off.
Awesome! That's what a like to hear (or read ) just a couple questions Please... does the XBOX 360 kinect need a USB 3.0 to function properly on pc ? And I've heard that crouching will make the sensor lose sight or vision of the skeleton movement, is that true ? (please and thank you)
@@admiralnelson655 I didn’t do much crouching, but I did sit in a chair and stand and it captured that well. I believe USB 2 is fine for the Kinect 360. The Kinect One requires USB 3
I was also wondering about this. You'd need an app to process that data, and the best one I've used on iOS is Moves by Maxon. GREAT for face mocap into C4D, though still pretty rough for body tracking. Hopefully the new lidar cameras will help with that.
Did you need to clean up the mocap. Also iClone with Kinect is ok if you are willing to zero the Jittering on the hand and feet - which is like selecting the bone element and setting its x,y,z to 0 and then hand tweaking it a bit. Also the iClone tools are very intutive. There is an example of basketball shoot and the tweaking process. Short and sweet I'd say here's the Reallusion's youtube URL - ua-cam.com/video/Q_2N_IthX74/v-deo.html
I cleaned up the mocap just through the smoothing within iPISoft, no manual cleanup. Since I posted this, I discovered that Brekel has a Body 3.0 on the way that allows the use of multiple depth sensors and is much more affordable than iPISoft. I haven’t tested it significantly yet, but the alignment of multiple sensors is way easier than in iPISoft, so if I can get the data into iClone or Unreal easily, that’s likely what I’ll use in the future. Trusting one sensor to capture the movement is just too limiting.
@@hyperbolicfilms I was impressed with Brekel too - specially the 6 simultaneous character motion capture but you are right about the limiting nature where one must always face the Kinect sensor and there is a bit of mess up during 180 Degree ++ turns.
@@hyperbolicfilms One disadvantage is that only 1 Kinect 2 can be connected per machine. Surprisingly more than 1 Kinect 1 can be connected. Evolution needs redefining.
I don't know of any free options available for a phone. Radical may be your best bet because it can be shot on a cellphone and the price to convert the footage to motion capture data is quite low.
Hello, so uhh, since I'm Mega Poor... is there like way to y'know, hack the system in some way? Like is there a way to get ipi mocap studio for completely free with out any trials? (Merry Christmas)
(By the way, I'm sorry if I'm being annoying /asking too many questions, hopefully those are the last)...Alright then, how about this, could it be possible to Re new the free trail everytime by redownloading ipi studio but with a different email and info ? And does the free trail version let you export your creations ? (Again, sorry for being annoying, I hope those are my last questions 🤗😁)
Consider that the cheapest alternative is $1500 for a suit, plus more for that software. There is a single camera version of iPod for $195. With the current discount, that’s under $150.
that film was actually really good!
This is really cool would love to hear how some of the future testing came out
OMG, Radical looks very promising, Im going to try it.
let me know how kinect with iclone goes. I'm about to test the same setup myself

hi Elvis,
please keep posting videos related to virtual production
thanks ! I'll have a canadian day tomorrow in Rio... ! cheers ps. thanks for precise thinking... meanwhile watch your back!
Wow, FANTASTIC video, learnt a whole bunch from this, definitely gave me a ton of places to look, PLUS added 'lil film to boot!!
Thank you!!!

Very helpful video. I was thinking in getting iPiSoft and buying a couple Kinects. And maybe a iPhone X for facial mocap.

It's amazing, can you do a video showing us how to connect the Kinect, Softwares and UE4 please!!
I’m not sure if there is a direct way to connect the two together, nothing I have seen yet.
@@hyperbolicfilms I mean, how to create a short film or animations for game like you did with Kinect and Unreal
@@santiagoacostarendon4462 I hope to do some more about that in the next few weeks.
Thanks bro. I wen work with ipisoft locks batter solution. And iclone is for fixsing and mixing animations. Unreal for last step.
is brekel a one time buy softare or monhtly pay ? appreciate some answers
It’s a one time purchase last I checked.
Thanks 👍
