1:13:10 Should the opponent have maybe tapped their Creeping Tarpit for black mana, used the other 5 lands for Treachery, untapped Tarpit and at least 1 blue source, taped 2 lands, 1 of which is blue, used the black floating, activated Creeping Tarpit, and attack with it to steal the Coveted Jewel?
After some thought, I don't think so. He doesn't have good blocks for the tokens and is rather winning the long game, so letting both players draw three seems risky.
@@Kettwiesel25 Trade with Titania, chump with Stoneforge, or possibly even Cathar Commando to block to block the token, depending on where it is in the deck when the 3 cards are drawn, and Stoneforge to block the Shifting Woodlands, which can only be a Fyndhorn Elves. It's hard to say for sure without knowing what cards are in hand, but I'd be hard-pressed to not want to draw those 3 cards, knowing I'll have access to 5 mana, which is likely a UW+Jewel. Considering he plays Teferi 2 turns later, which would also be enough when combined with Stoneforge, to prevent a creature from getting through for the 1 turn that it matters, we know almost for certain that it would have worked out, unless it was like 4ish cards down, and he only got access to it because of Top.
Hi Luis! I just ordered an entire proxy cube as a birthday present for myself and will be playing with a group of friends in a few weeks. Another top 50 video or archetype breakdown would be AMAZING for helping us (cube noobs) to get into the swing of it :)
Nice detail on the halfway point of a draft. You mentioned it's just after pack 2 pick 4 because that's halfway through the new cards to see. Never thought of it that way, but adds a little more urgency to those first 8 picks in pack 1 and 4 picks in pack 2.
Loved this deck and wish LSV went busted style more. After all vintage cube is all about winning with busted cards and channel is great! That second deck had me on brink of going crazy with nothing but answers.
Just because you mentioned Key during draft once: I had a deck with Urza's Saga and Bristly Bill, and Manifold Key was actually kind of nuts as a win-from-nowhere card with Bristly Bill, as long as my deck had anything for the Key to untap. Really interesting corner case for a marginal card.
Opponent missed a really slick line at 1:13:00. Tap out and cast treachery floating a black off of tar pit, then uptap the tar pit and use the floating black to animate it, letting them swing to take jewel.
Man I just don't understand why there weren't any big creatures up there at the end, like what was everyone else at the table taking? You had all the big flash/sneak style cards lol
@@LucianDevineyeah, I figured the Natural Order / GSZ player probably got the Woodfall Primus. Even though LSV was getting some green cards, it was clear that at least one other drafter was cutting green.
MODO will give you a match loss for not interacting for 7 minutes, but being 10 minutes behind is apparently fine. It's amazing how quickly these players can play once their clock hits 5 minutes.
Especially bc he was saying it is maybe even over minsk but minsk wouldve been insane in that deck (like in every other deck tbh that card is just nuts)
Same. Stoneforge on turn 2 into batterskull turn 3 is still fairly solid, IMO, and I do feel LSV underrates stoneforge slightly. Obviously you'd rather have kaldra, but I would bet the sandiest of dogs has won quite a few games with stoneforge into batterskull in 2024. That said, in the game he lost to batterskull a 5 mana 4/4 would have sufficed.
@@brianh5844 There's just so much cheap removal that it just doesn't come together and stay together as much as it used to, and of course it can be EASILY outraced by basically every combo under the sun.
Top targets for Stoneforge in 2024: Kaldra Skullclamp Jitte Maybe Cryptic Coat? After that, I think the other targets are mostly value/backup level. As in, you will play them, but they aren’t exciting.
The way I interpret it is that Stoneforge+Batterskull isn't completely unplayable, just that it's not nearly as good as people tend to think because of how good it was in the past. Compare it to the effect of grabbing like Kaldra Conpleat or even Skullclamp. Both of those typically completely swing a game when they're in play. Batterskull is more of a nuisance. Can it help you win? Sure, it has power and toughness. But even a Grizzly Bare can win if there's nothing in play to block it.
the underrating of OUAT is so strange to me because it’s not like minsc or bombardiers which were never in standard or modern. OUAT is banned in like 4 formats the card has been nuts for the past 5 years
Yeah in my defense I didn't said he should draft it. I said, since he drafted it already, he should consider side in the thing cause he was burned out first game lol but he is right. I usually talk too much.
It's really a shame that leading into the coolest vintage cube event of all time the format is at it's least interesting and most agro heavy on MTGO. Average game length is so short now and the current cube list supports 5-6 agro drafters, games are just far less complex and interesting which is what made vintage cube so amazing
But agro decks usually don't kill before 4 more likely is turn 5 or 6. Combo decks arent much slower. I wonder how long do you think the average game takes? I've had many games go to turn 10+
@@Lollerpwn1337 The average game is down about 1.5 turns from 12 months ago's Vcube. That's kind of the nature of Vintage and Vintage Cube. You have access to your powerful cards before your opponent does, and if they don't have Force, it's free.
No matter how out of control life gets, you can count on LSV to deliver daily drafts. Thanks for your exceptional work and being an anchor in life!
