Another masterpiece, full of beauty showing the vindication of purity over the darkness of sin. This lyrical hagiography opens with an elegiac introduction - like the first bars of a symphonic poem, because the script presents the motifs of the remarkable inner truth of the life of St Thaney of Glasgow. The sin of the world does not, nor cannot blot out or overwhelm the purity of a soul that loves the Lord. Her life's offering was like the beautiful fragile flowers that spring into bloom out of the dark, hard crevices of this earth's surface. These flowers, like her life, are our symbols of hope. We learn that despite Thaney's cruelly blighted innocence and childhood, that 'Christ can raise His most glorious saints out of the depth of sin', and we can rejoice in the assurance that 'Christ is never far away from purity.' Thank you Fr Seraphim, for this dramatic but tenderly nuanced biography with its redemptive message for all who are challenged by the darkness of sin (which is our sin too) of the world. Thaney's purity united with the compassion of the Holy Theotokos is a light for us. Amen

Somehow, dear Bethan, the Saints manage to use the evil hatred thrown at them by the world and the devil into Love - the right kind of love, the one that places one on the cross precisely for the salvation of those who subject them to these horrific cruelties. That otherworldly Love of the Saints is what gives my heart hope to move forward.

There are Saints who experienced horrific abuse, of all kinds, and yet they somehow managed to turn all that demonic hatred thrown at them into love. and not just any kind of love, but sacrificial love, the sort of love that reflects the Love of the Crucified Lord. Their lives are the greatest inspiration for sinful people like myself. May they all pray for us, so we may also find the way to Christ's Love
