    I can see how the joint leverages work but wouldn't this work better against a push or a grab (preceding a haymaker)? A jab isn't left out like that, it would be snapped back quickly, assuming the guy throwing actually knows how to jab.

      This is the problem with the vast majority of traditional martial arts demonstrations: they only demonstrate on compliant partners and fail to address the reality of actual combat.

    It's almost impossible to catch any punch since they are snapped back.

      A little bit unrealistic, you need to be super fast to hold on to the arm, I think Sifu should go through what to actually do when they snap hands back, I'd use some more silat ideas like invade the opponents space, if my arm is still contouring his or flowing with it, lock it under armpit, step around his back and step forward for the shoulder lock idk but Sifu should make a video that details this longer than less than 2 minutes
