Just listen to Hugh's clever guitar work in this. Baz Warne going round telling everyone that being the guitarist in the Stranlgers is easy. Yes? Tha'ts because this man did all the work for you mate.
High Cornwell oftern says the stranglers should change there name only 2 origanal left baz is big mouth geordie see hugh Cornwell he does 2 sets at he's gigs first part he's songs goes off second set stranglers stuff 2 gigs in one
I read an interview where Baz Warne was saying quite the opposite and that it wasn't until he joined The Stranglers that he began to appreciate just how intricate and unique Cornwell's guitar playing was.
The new Stranglers better be thankful there was a Hugh, and The Stranglers were so great. Nothing will EVER even come close to the original true MENINBLACK!!
Sweet Dave at his best here.... as is high kicking intricate bass line playing JJ, tub thumping tight as Jet & l love Hughs eclectic spider web guitar work and vocals on this oft forgot and unappreciated masterpiece.
This is great. For me the band started getting a bit spottier on their albums starting with Gospel According To The MenInBlack, and as much as I love the first few records, The Raven album was their best all around. The Stranglers were about as genius as the era got. Thanks.
This should have been the second single lifted from The Raven LP, after Duchess, in place of, "Nuclear Device", which wasn't really single material anyway, only reaching Number 36 in the UK charts ("Duchess" was almost top 10). This was poor placement for a Stranglers single, in the UK record charts. It reminds me a bit of releasing "La Folie"(the single), as the next single after their mega-hit "Golden Brown" (another faux pas - you've got to capture the momentum, not experiment). Great song by a great band (the original line-up, I mean). Thanks for uploading; liked it and subscribed.
@@herb79 You're welcome! Yes, that whole album was a big musical shift for them and away from the 3 or 4-chord New Wave/Punk stuff, they'd been doing, particularly on the 2nd and 3rd LPs, which was good but couldn't go on forever, as they wanted to expand musically. I saw them at London's Battersea Park in September 1978, which was the London stop on the "Black And White" tour. I was only 14 at the time and there must have been more than 6,000 people there, most of whom were much taller and bigger than me! I remember the Scottish band The Skids was one of the support acts - "Sweet Surburbia"; "Into The Valley" - and even Genesis's Peter Gabriel grabbed a guest spot. He pushed and forced his way through the crowd to get to the stage, passing me in the process! My favourite album of theirs is "The Gospel According To The Meninblack", where they took the musical experimentation to another level. Glad to reach out to another Stranglers fan (R.I.P. Dave and Jet) and best wishes for the New Year to you!

Sorry mate, but this song is not from album La Folie, it's from album The Raven. By the way, great song, tanx for uploading. God Save The Stranglers!!!
This song is amazing. No one is playing the same thing.
"Let's make the most complicated song we can." Tick. This tune has always mesmerised me.
C'est ma préférée ❤ C'est pour moi, la meilleure intro que j'ai entendue...

@@MisAnnThorpe True. He never said it was easy. I like how he described Hugh's guitar playing
The Stranglers one of the best band died when they lost Hugh's voice and his original guitar riff
hahaha is that so? going to see them this year in the uk its now 2020

Incredible amazing song, just like nothing on earth ;)

Great performance. One of the best live mixes I've heard from The Stranglers. Certainly the best I've heard Cornwell's guitar mixed on stage.
