I hate to be the one to break it to you, but I have lived in Peoria almost all my life until I was about 48 years old. I was from the southside and the drugs, gang murders and serial killers in that area absolutely ridiculous and for you to be trying to get people to move there just to make some money because you’re a real realtor you need to reevaluate your situation and look at the facts before you send people to their deaths.
Peoria Illinois is a depressed city...sad but true. Born and raised here...54 yrs. This city has lost its life unfortunately. You see it when you drive around. Downtown is DEAD! People look miserable it seems. We were voted one of the rudest cities in the US a few yrs ago. I hate leaving this comment yet I'm being truthful. Someone needs to come in and turn the city around...breathe life back into it. So much history and beauty here. I'm praying for it! I live out off Farmington Rd near the county jail...a hidden gem yet im ready to move. The state has done it for me and I do cry thinking of leaving yet I must. Life's not a dress rehearsal and I'm not getting any younger. Tired of waiting on positive change 😔💔
I hear ya. But, you have a few choices - Be the change you seek, or go somewhere else. I know the area you’re talking about, and Iove it. Far enough out and away from things, but not too far, that it takes forever to get anywhere. Where would you move to? Do you think Peoria will ever come back to how you remember it?

I love what the younger people are doing on the west side of downtown tho...gives me hope. 🥰 The thing I don't see anymore and this is with society as a whole...the joy, laughter, etc. I see stoned people... I do feel when CAT left that was the punch that damaged us the most. My business struggled after too. When they left downtown you started seeing downtown become "vacant". Now it's even more. I went to midstate downtown in the 80's...so full of life. 70's too. Shops, diners, PEOPLE! Moving...been planning since 2018. 2020 was suppose to be my year. Instead this will be lol! It got put back a bit we'll say. I'm heading to Florida...of course 😏 Don't get me wrong...I love my home...the city I was born and raised. It is honestly unique and as a friend from San Francisco said...when you come down that hill (talking about I74 in EP) and see Peoria, you know you're home. I always loved that and it's true tbh❤️🔥
I hear you. CAT departing was a huge loss. The good thing is the medical community creating jobs in the area. IL in general is not the most business friendly state, which hurts us all. When it is time to move, my team and I would love the opportunity to help you sell, if you are going that route.
I know exactly how you feel. I'm in my 50's and been here most my life. I've been in my home 23 years and love my neighborhood but it sickens me what's become of the city. I just can't tolerate this town any or state anymore.

I remember u would go in there and u had a brother that lifted during that time too. Your old man was strong as hell, I remember him bench pressing 405 to 425 on a regular basis. He was friends w Dave Wooley RIP.

I'm in Peoria for work. I would never move here. Thank God I'm leaving this city tomorrw. Went to Walmart and didn't even feel like it was safe to get out or my truck. They had those blue flashing police poles all over the parking lot and I was the only white guy that I saw. The roads are crazy. I'm pretty sure there's a fart tax here too.

I got talked into moving to Arkansas. I loved the nature. Everything else is hell. I have culture shock too. Child abuse is a sport here. You can get away with abuse and carrying an AK down the street but don't get caught with pot or go to Prison for 10 years. The schools are about worse in nation. I miss seeing people that aren't white . I am older and want to move back to my beloved Illinois. The people in Central Illinois are the best! Every place has it's problems but I will take Illinois anytime. I love to walk but don't here because I could be used as target practice. My cat was shot and I live out in country. I'm looking to move to smaller town close to Peoria. I have lived here about ten years. If you want a place with 20 acres in Arkansas, I will be selling. There is no place like home.
Crime stats are overblown anyway. They're always reported relatively but they don't tell you that the highest crime rate cities actually have a REALLY LOW crime rate if you don't think of it in only relative terms.
Currently live in Texas and am considering a move to...somewhere else. It's unbelievable how cheap the houses are in Peoria. I've never lived in a place that got really cold in the winter, though, and I'm not sure how I'd handle it.

DONT move to Illinois! Not anywhere in Illinois. It sucks here. There are many places to live with cheap housing but there’s a reason it’s cheap. If you want cold, just visit Northern Michigan in January. Or Bismarck North Dakota. Don’t move to a place because it’s cheap.
I'm from central Illinois and lived here my entire life. Literally EVERYONE I know all agrees Peoria is a bad place and to avoid it at all costs. I had to go there for orientation at a new job once since the main location for the company is there and I hated every second. Construction that never finishes, the roads are laid out in extremely confusing an needless ways. Not to mention the crime is abhorrent no wonder the housing is so cheap.
Cahokia IL has good homes for less than $100k. Close to lots of good shopping and close to St Louis which has lots of fun things to do. Cost of living in Cahokia is relatively low.
This city sucks don't move here. There is nothing to do there unless you're going to a bar or restaurant. Taxes are outrageous in Illinois. Now the crime is out of control too.

We already pay sewer tax which is run off but these corrupt people here think because they call a tax by a different name that it's not a double tax. Lot of trashing remarks here about Peoria. I have lived in the tri-county area all my life. Is it the same as it once was when CAT was a major force in the community? No....but where in Illinois is it better. Crime? Its up everywhere, or don't you watch the news. Taxes in Illinois are high, its true. Fact is any area as densely populated as the Peoria area is will have issues. I for one, think about moving all the times. When I look at the overall picture, I decide to stay put.
I wanna move there. I am in Oklahoma now. As a trans man, I don’t feel safe here. I think I would be safer up there. I have less than a year and I will have my house here paid off. I want to sell it and use the money to put a down payment on a house in Peoria.
Moving To Peoria IL??? Wow that is a stretch. Maybe 60+ years ago when employment was plentiful, taxes were somewhat reasonable, public schools weren't horrible and crime was lower. My wife and I left Peoria the day we were married in 1986. The lack of economic opportunity in a town dominated by 1 employer was the main driver to get the hell out and so glad we did. We have prospered personally and financially by moving to an area with a growing economy, appreciating property values, better weather and reduced taxes. We go back multiple times a year to visit and can see the area contracting in size. Cheap home purchase cost is about the only positive aspect about living in PIA.

I have lived in a number of states and cities in the last 70 years and one of those was Peoria, Il. I can tell you without hesitation there were only two things in Peoria worth mentioning. First, was Big John's Bar B Que which was magnificent and I never left there without answering John's question, "you all get enough to eat" with a "yes." Second was Richard Pryor's grandmother's brothel on Aiken Alley which was great with good looking, experienced, and well endowed women. Otherwise I would consider this analogy if Illinois was human body Chicago is the a$$hole, Rockford and Peoria are the armpits. Maybe they confused Peoria, IL with Peoria, AZ.

Peoria itself may have more crime than some. But, there are also other areas outside of Peoria that are pretty quiet. Taxes are awful though.
