You should read, “this is your brain on music.” By Daniel Levitin. It explores the relationship between music and the human brain.

If you are looking for an interesting read, try “The Feather Thief.” It’s a completely unbelievable but true story, and there’s a flutist at the center of it. ❤

March is the start of crazy rehearsal time for me, so on my stand are my folders for the orchestra, band, and flute choir I play in, plus the score for a pit gig (Cinderella, never played that show before!).
I would love to see a video on “required reading for fun and education”!

Greetings from Puerto Rico. My name is Samuel Valentín, I play flute, sax, clarinet but in a municipal band in Puerto Rico I play string bass and in a Latin jazz big band I play alto sax, I am simply a music fan. I'm curious to know if you have played jazz with the flute and if you have recorded any jazz with the flute and if you haven't, I would like to hear you doing some jazz piece at some point... I ALWAYS watch your videos.

I’ve just started playing the flute. Having a bit of trouble playing the octaves. And it’s your cute how your dog sings the song is it’s people.

You should read The Mystwick School of Musicraft br Jessica Khoury. It's absolutely beautifully written, and even though it's technically for kids, it's whimsical and relatable even for adults and if I'm remembering correctly she plays the flute😊 And I think you should look into a Happy Hoodie for Miguel.

    Hi Katie!
I can recommend the Book The Musical Brain by Lois Svard. Super nerdy and really interesting, it's about neuroscience in the musical field, with various studies that give us musicians helpful practice tips.
I am still in High School (from France), and next week I am heading to Warsaw, Poland for a competition! :) I love watching your videos, they are both helpful and entertaining!

Love the Korngold violin concerto! Was it the Ysaye Ballad 3 for the encore? Another favorite! Cool idea to to do an overhead shot in your studio, and the sound was good, too. As for snow, though i spent 15 years of my life in Delaware where it snowed, most of my life has been spent in central Florida, so no snow! No Valentine's Day for me, but I have sung in house concerts a few times, and I always enjoyed it! One particularly memorable time I sang the Rossini aria "Bel raggio lusinghier" the fastest EVER.....EVER....we were flying! I do have the Galway flute book (also bought used), and I got to attend a masterclass he gave at my university (though I was a clarinet/voice major) and even got to ask him a question (about his amazing singing flute tone, and whether he sang and recommended singing to flutists.....he loved the question and gave an enthusiastic 'yes'!). Not as big a fan of Rampal's as of Galway, but I do like Rampal's jazz flute suites by Claude Bolling, and he inspired me to get the music and try to actually play them! Also, I liked that last camera angle with the afternoon sun coming in and lighting up your face......really artistic!

Hi Katie, I am a beginner flutist, and I was wondering if you’d be interested in filming a video, or multiple videos, playing all the scales? I’m really struggling with this and need help, and I think a visual would really help me out!

I was obsessed with James Galway, when I was a teenager. I've been listening to him a lot again, in recent months.
Also, Adam Walker and Emmanuel Pahud, are worth listening to.
    ❤🌈👍❤️🎶🎶🌈

hi katie! love your videos as they have been a great addition to my week :) i had a quick question- have you ever had to deal with tendonitis from playing? if so, do you have any advice on getting over it? i'm a flutist in college, and i have found that it has been getting pretty intense as we're approaching concert season- not to mention my junior recital coming up. thank you so much!

Dear Katie the Flute: Why didn't you tell us [plebeians and philistines] last summer that your husband is featured on "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa? Also, clearly you aren't jealous! [Just kidding, I know they probably didn't record in studio together. And Duâlipə seems to be a consummate professional.] No, I haven't watched Barbie and I'm not sure if I will.
