  • Follow along as we take you on a trip to Northern Wisconsin to the fifth stop of the Lifetime Grand Prix: Chequamegon 40. The days leading up were dry and fast, but with race day came the rain as the Chequamegon National forest became a muddy mess. With over 2600 riders taking on the same course, the carnage ensued and 2 hours later Braydn Lange was crowned the 2022 winner.
    Alexey is currently sitting 2nd in the Lifetime Grand Prix standings with one race left to go, Big Sugar.

    It's so bizarre and awesome to see so much of this old race we used to do in the 80's all over cycling media now. Nuts. Born and raised in WI. I think the last time I did it, Lemond won.

      So awesome! Next year I want to do a bit of background on the history of the race! You should come back for the 40th year!

      @@alexeyandavery That sounds like a good goal! Friends of mine from college at UW (graduated '93) organize a White Rim Tour where we support ourselves every year. They're dedicated. We should rendezvous in Cable once again too. Gary Crandall is legend for keeping it going and building.

    The Chequamegon Fat Tire Fest is awesome. I grew up in northern WI and I was just back there and did the IMBA Epic ride Rock Lake. They're doing a great job of maintaining and building trails in that area. I hope you grabbed a shot of rum from the pirates - aarggh!

    Bike check? Love to learn tire choice - sealant and liners or no liner?

      Chequamegon was an all out race! Shimano XTR 36T Front ring - 10/51 rear cassette - Silca Waxed chain - Orange Seal w/o liners! Ran 2.4 Kenda Rush tires at 18psi/19psi

    See ya at BWR Michigan! Solid race, brutal conditions!

  • @pantherto
    @pantherto Рік тому +1

    Given the wet conditions, do you think the Kenda Rush tires were a good choice? How do they compare to the Maxxis Aspens?

    • @alexeyandavery
      @alexeyandavery  Рік тому

      I don't think the Rush or the Aspens are great mud tires...they don't hold mud, so that can be helpful...but I would say they are similar to the Aspens but roll a bit faster and have a bit bigger side knobs when you really lean it over

    Good work shooting solo and fantastic result with 3rd, that early pace plus long grass sounds brutal! Great to see the pre riding and bike setup, did the plugs survive the whole race attached? Avery good on you for looking out for the family, has to come first, hope all is well.

    • @alexeyandavery
      @alexeyandavery  2 роки тому

      Yep! Taping plugs like that is pretty bomb proof because they are so light! To take them off you have to twist each direction to loosen the tape, and then just pull.

      This is a purpose built Factor Lando HT. For Chequamegon I ended up going with a 36T front chain ring and a 10/51 rear cassette, all Shimano. I chose a 2.4 TR Kenda Rush and ran a full waxed Silca chain! Always happy when equipment performs throughout a race as dirty as this!

    Hey Buddy, I’m thinking about racing this race next year how would you compare it to Iceman?

    • @alexeyandavery
      @alexeyandavery  2 роки тому +1

      Very similar to iceman...more grass, 10 miles longer and less single track!

    Alexey, do you use a power meter on the mtn (or gravel) bike?

    • @alexeyandavery
      @alexeyandavery  2 роки тому

      Yes for most of the races...I chose not to for Iceman because I wanted to race with everything I had and not have anything to worry about!

      @@alexeyandavery I started racing when I lived in Green Bay in 1992. Cheqamegon was grass roots type of race in 94 or maybe 95.
      Most all of us were on ridged bikes maybe half the field had front forks or suspension stems. There were very few full suspension bikes.
