Never heard a better sounding stock exhaust on a pickup
Me neither
It not stock cause it a performance exhaust
@@843MudMafia. from the factory..... meaning stock......
@@843MudMafia. Its an upgrade from the factory so it technically still stock
over $2k option though
Highly motivated, truly dedicated, rough, tough, cant get enough, twisted steel, sex appeal, lean mean off road machine.
ANDRE IS AWESOME!!
Hey, cool truck too!
Awesome review Andre one beautiful truck and that exhaust rumble sounded like a high performance engine ..
Man that 6.2L sounds nice....
Totally agree, sounds awesome
all I hear is a vacuum sucking money straight out of my bank account
@Snake Plissken I agree with you that I need a bigger bank account, in all reality that is never going to happen, unless you are providing it to me
Ya i have the AT4 with the 6.2. It is absolute sex!
Looks good, sounds good. Lots of cameras but I'd like to see one more; a built in dash cam.
Thats... actually the camera that every vehicle needs.
Corvette has one, PDR!
Great idea for ALL vehicles!
Camaro has the Performance Data Recorder camera as an option also like in the Corvette.
this truck has more camera angles than the space shuttle.
Great review as always Andre! Nice truck, for a GMC. Man I can’t wait until Its warm enough so that I can wear t-shirts outside. 🇨🇦
Great, High quality video Andrew and the rest of the TFL crew
Man that V8 just gave me goosebumps. I love the sound🤤😍
I love it when Andre does a review.
You re looking much more relaxed Andre doing the review all alone! Great video!
Thank you for the kind comment.
Those complaining can't even afford a 90s Toyota Corolla
Your mom cant afford a 90s corolla
Like you could afford a $80,000 truck.
I'm not complaining and I cannot afford it. However, since I drive a 2008 Tundra with 180,000+ miles I don't have any reason to want to buy this thing. Oh what a feeling....
I just bought one and love it
those complaining cause they can't afford one, get off your ass and work.
TFL was in San Diego and I missed them, wished I knew they would be up on my local trail, I would have been there to check it out.
Great work Andre!
Nice review. I’d like to see a full OFF-ROAD comparison review, between AT4 vs RAPTOR vs POWER WAGON
It's not a comparison at all. Raptor would destroy the AT4, and the Power Wagon isn't even in the same category of truck.
Man I can't wait for the Rebel TRX. The comparisons will be epic. TFL needs it as a long term when it comes out
Nice review!
Can't wait to see the 2500 HD review 😀
Love exterior of GMC I just wish had better dash like RAM, love. 6.2 V8 sounds👍Great vid👍
Still love this truck. I just hate how much it costs. I would probably do aftermarket parts mainly because I would want a more subtle but throaty exhaust as that one is a little too high pitch for me.
MattChat56 I’m hoping in a year I’ll get a half cab AT4 used. Hopefully for under 45k
I chose the Chevy over GMC solely because of cost. 10% markup isn't with it, imo.
I Loved That High Output 6.2L Big Boy V8!
I would venture to say that the AT4 exhaust is on par with the Tundra TRD Pro. Pretty impressive fuel economy that 6.2 gets as well. Awesome video Andre!
What a good looking truck. Perfect for my use, boat, Travel trailer, hunting and fishing. Thanks gents!!
That exhaust sound at 4:40 😍😍😍
Now THAT exhaust sounds like Merica! Like a damned nascar cup car! WOW! I am ready to sell everything I own to buy one of these!
I want one. Excellent video BTW.
Beautiful truck my next one for sure
Shop around, they arent that much. I just bought my 20 AT4 and didnt pay even close to what msrp on these trucks. There are deals to be had. Love my AT4!
Super nice truck great review! Andre my OCD is going crazy with your uneven pants leg!
Wating for testing sierra HD AT4
The truck sounds great. Similar to the SS 1LE my friend has with magnaflow exhaust.
I believe that’s the Borla exhaust they use. 👍🏽👍🏽
once they get the composite bed i will be seriously considering the AT4
One of my favorite truck
But overall, great looking truck. Hey Andre, love the ominous music during decent lol
I would totally buy this truck!
Amazing!! First Chevy that I think I would buy.
I would like to see a side by side comparison of the 3.0 L Duramax Vs the 6.2, mostly in towing and fuel economy.
Hope to see this in the Gold Winch Awards testing soon. :)
Exhaust sounds good
I thought this was gonna be more powerful than the 3.5 high output. That woulda been amazeballs
That's what a real truck sounds like! 👍
Didn’t look like there were any skid plates under the transmission or gas tank.
Best looking GM truck in the line up right now imo
nice review quick question, did you air down the tires for this video?
I didnt know off road was all about cameras and cubby holes 👀
TFL can y’all please test the Sierra and the Chevy Silverado Trailboss?
That exhaust was phenomenal. You should only buy a GM truck with the 6.2 and a car back exhaust🤤
Nice review as usual Andre. That performance package should be standard. The GMC is overpriced, that’s why I went with Trailboss. People say interior is crap blah blah. They just can’t afford one. The interior is great actually. I don’t need massaging seats and built in makeup applicators. And no I don’t need a 20” monitor.
The trail boss is really nice but it doesn't get the 6.2. The interior is fine but for a gmc with this price it's hard not to wonder why they didnt match Rams interior. And what truck has a make up applicator?
He's being facetious there with the make-up applicator reference of course.
Finally they offer an off road package with the 6.2. Might consider GM now
True but not for $70,000.. You can get a REBEL fully loaded for $10,000 less easily. Hell a RAPTOR is cheaper. The AT4 looks good on the outside but the interior is a huge let down.
@@lance_r72 Totally agree with the interior being a let down. Just Sat in this, the Ram and a Raptor, at the Chicago Auto Show this past weekend. I am a Ford guy, but this truck looks good. Now only if it had the Rams interior, I'd be getting rid of my F150. The discounts on this and the Rebel, make it tempting.
@Joe Blow I agree it looksnice on the outside and the camera system is great. Being able to access the cameras anytime is way better than the F150's only in reverse system. But I can not get past GM's antics. And FORDs fit n finish. Plus its price. If RAM puts the 426 in it it's a homerun.
Lance It’s not $70,000. I priced one out fully loaded including the 6.2L + 10-speed and it came out at $64,000 that plus a 8-10 grand mark down 👍🏼
Also the Raptor is definitely not cheaper the 802A package alone is just under $10,000 and brings the price up to $66k. Add in the safety tech, giant sunroof, a bedliner, and the custom Recaros you looking at $73-77k if you want the decals and bead lock wheels.
Also that’s for a lariat level interior.
The Rebel is basically just a Custom Big Horn with the off-road package, 33” duratracs, a 1” lift(might only be with air suspension) and 3.92 axle ratio as standard equipment.
Lance GM’s infotainment is better than Ford’s too it’s just as crisp and HD as Dodge’s.
Plus yea the Raptor being the special model doesn’t escape from Ford’s poor fit and finish and on top of that they for some reason they put a aluminum shift fork in the custom T-Case and it commonly snaps.
Ram fit and finish is good, but they still need to work on overall build quality and fixing the new info’s bugs.
But the Rebel TRX is probably gonna be better than the Raptor, Dodge will have issues on cheaper models but when it come to special high performance models they are always solid.
The Hellcat engine is one of the most reliable American built engines next to the LS/LT.
GM’s interior might not be top notch, but their overall build quality and reliability is better. Exterior design on Chevys is questionable but I love the Sierra’s look.
Antics aside unless Toyota can mange to make the next-Gen Tundra on par with the big 3 or Tesla delivers that EV super truck with decent build quality I’m sticking with GM.
General Motors needs to start putting the 6.2 in the lower trims
Do you know if any/all of those cameras will also work as a dashcam? Can you go back and review footage if there's an accident, hit a button somewhere to record the last x seconds, that kind of thing.
Do they make the 3/4 ton 2500 HD with the Duramax diesel? in an AT4? Especially would consider a 2020 HD AT4
I need to see a Whipple coming soon, *do you?*
Great video, didn't like the "drama" song when he was about to go down the hill.
You can get a Z71 (at least in 2018 you could) in a regular cab. Can you get this in a regular cab as well?
Just bought this with 43k on it the other day. It's a nice machine!
👍👍👊
I’m really liking the AT4
Not sure why I’m interested in this badass truck !! I’ll never afford to own !!!
Seems like GMC could add that performance pkg much cheaper because they are not supplying the original parts.
Newton Washinton Those parts should be standard for that price of the truck.
@@pechmichaelchristina2640, Well thats true.
You can get an AT4 crew cab with the 6.2 v8 & 10 speed for $53k if you don't add all the tech. It's still crazy expensive but at least it's not $67k. Also, in 2020 you can get the 6.2 v8 on the Chevy Trailboss for $43k.
looks good sounds good
😍that sound.
which one do you think is better the AT4 or Denali
That exhaust sounds really good.
Nice review. I’d never buy one, but nice review.
Great review Andre.
It would be a worthy note that the 6.2L V8 in the Sierra/Silverado requires premium fuel (which costs about a dollar more per gallon in the Philly burbs at this time/60 cents more per gallon in other parts of Pennsylvania) while the FX4 package Ford trucks only run on 87 Octane fuel. The Hemi V8 in the Rebel also requires mid-grade (89 octane) fuel for reference. That savings at the pump could easily pay for a 2" leveling kit and some aggressive 33" tires.
Gary Blatt but we don't talk about adding truck mods yourself here
The lift in this truck is a much more than a level kit. GM has made it available as an upgrade. It cost 2k CAD to buy and install. It have new front struts, a diff drop bracket, new front CV axles. A rear block spacer and new longer travel shocks.
It's not a cheap space pick system , that causes long term Suspension geometry issues.
Ecoboost requires premium fuel (93) in order to reach the maximum rated power. Same goes for this 6.2L from GM. Most, if not all engines these days, will adapt to lower octane fuel just fine.
What really made me laugh was my old Infiniti QX56 said premium fuel recommended on the filler lid but an Armada said regular was ok. As far as anyone who tuned the engines could figure there was no change between the 2 models. So I used premuim only when I was towing.
Test it against the Ram Rebel
Is this rear end the same limited slip rear, or is it an actual full lock rear, 2nd question, is it switched on by a switch in the cab, or activated when 4x4 engaged? Thanks
It is an actual full locking rear differential, it is however fully automatic and never switched on and engages whether you're in 4wheel drive or not (so it does also function in2wd) when one side begins to spin excessively relative to the other the locker engages. It's a tried and true mechanical system that GM has been using for decades and I can tell you from much experience that the unit does function well, that being said, I (& many others) would still like, and (much) prefer to have a manually engaged locker that has a control on the dash that you can engage when you want to (in 2wd & all 4wd modes) like the unit available in the Fords FX4 package and Raptors, though also available as a stand alone option in 1/2, 3/4,&1 ton trucks (& also 2019 RAM Rebel & all years Power Wagon, though I believe the units in the RAMS can only be engaged in 4wd unlike the Ford which gives you the flexibility of 2wd engagement as well). Hopefully GM will get smart and offer such a system in a ZR2 package like what is available on the Colorado (which is also the other, along with Toyota TRD package Tacoma's, & Nissan Frontier & TitanXD & non XD with PRO4X package, so others actually) model(s) that have a selectable locker as well. Even if you're just doing semi-serious Off-roading on occasion, but especially if you're doing even more challenging trails often, a selectable locker is just the better way to go. So to sum it up, an auto locker is certainly better than a limited slip rear or nothing at all but you can't beat a selectable locker.
Love the looks, love the color, LOVE the sound. Great truck! (and I'm not even a truck guy)
frig, gm makes hit so hard to choose between the trail boss and AT4
Any update on when you will get a 3.0l diesel 1st drive? I think initially one of you said last Oct. but we all know how that goes.
We don’t have a date yet.
But it can't be soon enough as far as I'm concerned.
Bad ass truck.
Where in San Diego was this test area at ?
It would be nice to know the real world MPG 5.3 vs 6.2
You can get this truck for $57,350 at a lot of dealerships right now for $57,350! OR you can get the GMC 1500 Denali right now for $57,948!! I want people to put this in context! The AT4 is a 5.3L V-8 4Wheel Drive. With a nice set of upgraded off road tires and wheels as well as an upgraded suspension. Spray in bed liner with that new fancy tail gate that opens a bunch of ways. All Leather Interior. A BIG back seat with the 4Door that has all the room you need. Upgraded exhaust that sounds really good. It has OnStar and all the extras you would want. This is the AT4 model for $57,350. Now you think I'm some GM lover trying to push their vehicles? NOPE! I have NEVER owned a GMC. The point to this is that I can go buy that truck RIGHT NOW!! With all those extras for $57,350. OR I could go buy a Jeep Gladiator v-6 it will haul less, tow less, ride worse, burn more gas more than likely (FCA lies a lot about mpg's) It will carry fewer people, it's warranty does not match the GMC, It is slower than the GMC, Does not sound as good as the GMC and it doesn't have nearly as many extras as the GMC and I am going to pay $65,000 for the Gladiator!!!! Loaded the MSRP is $62,000. The Gladiator is new so NOBODY is going to be selling them that cheap. They will be at least three thousand over the MSRP!! That is $65,000! First thing people will do is put bigger tires and wheels on it and get a lift kit dropping the mpg to probably around 15 mpg on the highway to the GMC 20 on the highway. Now your in about $70,000 for the Gladiator!!! OR the GMC AT4 Double Cab 4wheel drive Leather Interior decked out at $57,350!!! The GMC despite being an upgrade in every way is $12,650 CHEAPER than the GLADIATOR!!!! If you like the Gladiator go look at both trucks!! Remember you will have to pay $12,650 MORE for the Gladiator (after lift, wheels and tires) than the GMC AT4!!!!! Now, buy the Gladiator! Congratulations!!!! Your an Idiot!!!!! You can do this with whatever brand you like! Chevy, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, it doesn't matter! When you buy the Gladiator remember to bring some lotion with you so it does not hurt as bad!! Jeep charges extra if you want them to use lotion!!
For that price you get Ranchero shocks?? No way!
I wish ram, would do a off road ram performance package
They do, and beat GM to it
I love the look of the truck, however I don’t see the value for what you are getting. I’d need to get 5-10k off msrp.
Exactly! If you are going to pay that much, might as well get a Raptor or Power Wagon
Just bought it and got 10k off MSRP $66k to $56k from Everett GMC in Bryant AR
Just bought one with $64k msrp for $55.4k. There are some dealerships out there with some good deals
My local dealership has Denali with 8-10k off msrp so that’s doable.
Anthony Harris Nah, ones a Ford the other is slow and gets under 13 mpg.
I hate how that’s considered a descent off road corse/trail. It’s just an easy little trail that most 4x4s can go on with ease.
Ike Gauntlet boys, that's what that truck needs.
This GMC costs a few grand more than Tundra & Titan because the Asian trucks are still 1/2 generation behind Ford, Ram, & now even GM with respect to the truck segment. The Ranger & Colorado have advanced features compared to Tacoma & Frontier as well.
Resale value is also very close between GM & others in the truck segment.
I like it, but can't afford it.
The Silverado wished it looked this good
If they put the 6.2 v8 in the trailboss and the multipro tailgate then i am set with the silverado
Thankful that they moved the gear shifter back where it should be for a truck.
Rancho shocks!!! Pure orgasmic delight!!!
Hey GM, 1985 called and it wants those shocks and instrument cluster back.
I actually just realized the similarities myself I actually love it !
1:29 looks like "Duck mode". 😁
Oh and
Long live the V8!!
Still waiting for GM to come out with the 3.0l Duramax
Yes exactly, that's going to be THE motor to have in this truck!
I plan on getting the double cab 6.2 it's cheaper and also pit the borla s type on It instead
Where do I sign?
It's my dream truck. I want it badly. However I HATE how the seats look in the AT4. I would LOVE to know if the leather seats could be swapped with SLT or Denali seats. I can't stand that brown mixed in with the black. I may be in the minority and it might not be a big deal to some, but if I'm paying that much for a truck, I want to LOVE the way it looks on the interior, and the seats are a deal breaker to me if they can't be swapped out. Other than that, I. Want. This. Truck. Looks wayyyy better than the SLT/Denali versions IMO.
The 6.2 is a whole different animal than the 5.3
What's the name of this trail and is it open to the public?
This trail was on private ranch land. The trail was picked by GMC.
Wow... Sounds like a vette, usually the 6.2 in these trucks sound more "trucky" (Idk how else to explain it lol). 👍👍💯
The cam normally sounds wimpy to my ears, I think the 6.2 has more valve lift than the 5.3
let me get this straight, you get a cool new tailgate but because of all the new stuff there is also "nanny tech" in the tailgate that prevent you from using the bed extender that you need to use because the bed is only 5 ft long......
thanks but I will use the plan old tailgate on a useful size bed.
You can drive with the gate down like in a regularly equipped truck (with or without a bed extender gate) but you can't drive with the step in the gate down unless the tailgate is up at which time that notch that functions as a step when the tailgate is down now functions as a semi pass through in the tailgate like if you're needing to haul some 2x4's(6's, 8's, etc.) and you know their going to be sticking out the back of the bed but with that "notch thru" in the gate (that functions as the step when the gate is down) that lumber can at least be riding lower and a bit more secure. It's a six way tailgate system and he should have taken a moment to demonstrate its 6 way functions as it would have taken less than a minute to do so. It's a versatile system that other magazine testers unanimously like and I have checked it out at the dealer and feel that it's a multiply beneficial tailgate system that easily bests the step only gate available on the Ford. I'm sure TFL or someone else is going to demonstrate its functionality in an upcoming video soon.
But wouldn't you want a turbo diesel for off road? That exhaust note is orgasmic though.
Cost difference between the 5.3 and the 6.2 liter engine?
The difference is about $2,500. However, the 5.3L has an 8-speed and 6.2L has a 10-speed auto.
Sounds good but I’m surprised they didn’t push to beat the F-150’s 450 horsepower EcoBoost V6.
I was disappointed all "new truck" yet they use the same old heart.
What no DSSV shocks not impressed at all maybe the GMC division should talk to the Chevy truck division about upgrading those shocks. I hope you guys at TFL get another chance to really test this truck.
If only the wheel welds were circled then you can fit bigger tires like on the silverado
