I hear them talk a lot about "Looks, Looks, Looks", yup GM with their 35 different Looks "Packages" and still ZERO performance upgrades on their 1500s. Let's face it they put a $35 lift block kit with Slightly upgraded OEM shocks and a badge kit and call it a few thousand dollars good. Also that line "Yeah we made a truck for those willing to pay for it to look rugged" smh
The lift costs 2k installed. There is a block in the back. But a longer and tuned strut body upfront. Longer CV shafts, diff spacers too The best part of the trail boss /AT4 is they offer a slightly better than a level lift, but with full factory warranty .
Terrence Jones you must be new to the aftermarket parts world. Nearly every major suspension company offers lifetime warranty on their products AND mileage warranty on the powertrain thrusting said products. There isn’t a 2” leveling kit out there that costs $2,000. Hows that kool-aid taste?

@@aznikkoutv Magnuson- Moss does not apply if you are alternating how the suspension functions. A larger 4-6" lift with a new spindle can change wheel bearing loads, as well as offset wheels and larger tires. This is basic stuff. You should know better.
I would like to know why gm did not slap turbos on the 4.3L. Please ask this question tfl. They did back in the early 90's and had a performance machine that could keep up with the muscle cars of that era.
If the camera views allow you to see "through" a trailer behind the truck, It would have been nice to have something similar to Land Rover and see "through" the hood and engine compartment with your virtual tires shown for direction of travel. Not a big difference but cooler.
Enough with the lousy Rancho shocks. It's time to put some proper shocks on there instead of those bargain brand pieces of crap from a budget lift company.
87gunsnroses Rancho isn’t the problem. GM gives Rancho the specs and design for the shocks that Rancho must follow to the T. GM is far too conservative in bringing on performance products which is why the ZR2 is so unique with its proprietary shocks.

In that case def look into Bilstein 5100 series. They’re the go to reliable performing shock. They’ll be softer around town but still have plenty of performance on washboard and dirt roads. Fox 2.0 would be the equivalent but at a higher price and they’ll ride a bit too firm around town...no need since your HD Silverado already rides a tad firmer than LT trucks. Oh... and they won’t rust, they might show some oxidation, all cosmetic, but nothing that will make the shock fail overtime.

GM and Ram have really stepped up their designs, I wonder what Ford’s answer will be.
Probably some new colors and badges lol
Aren't they stepping up to try to outdo Ford?
What customer did they ask? They didn't ask me.
they asked tacoma trd pro customers, but...rock craw seems still better ...lol
Because you dont matter
I looked at the interior and for a minute there I thought I was at a Tupperware party
Longer CV shafts, diff spacers too
The best part of the trail boss /AT4 is they offer a slightly better than a level lift, but with full factory warranty .
@@aznikkoutv That's hilarious. For the record I've been in auto parts for 20 years. 10 of them in the aftermarket. I currently work for GM in auto parts. I know exactly what the lift kit costs. Because I can see the part numbers, and the break down of the lift kit/what comes in it.
If you install an aftermarket lift in your truck. Your suspension , hub bearings parts of your OEM warranty is void.
Move along junior.
Terrence Jones oh that’s just rich. Your employers must love how you infringe upon
the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
@@aznikkoutv Magnuson- Moss does not apply if you are alternating how the suspension functions. If you claim to be in the industry you know that even a simple spacer block changes your upper and lower ball joint angles. As well as tie rod end angles You reduce the lift span of those components in doing so. Show me a lift company that warranties failure of the OEM ball joints. I'll wait.
A larger 4-6" lift with a new spindle can change wheel bearing loads, as well as offset wheels and larger tires. This is basic stuff. You should know better.
GM picked the most unenthusiastic person to get people excited about the truck.
I would like to know why gm did not slap turbos on the 4.3L. Please ask this question tfl. They did back in the early 90's and had a performance machine that could keep up with the muscle cars of that era.
Seriously now ... in this hostile EPA environment a diesel is only really worth it for a heavy professionally operated vehicle, not a mall crawler.
Hanging out at a funeral would be more fun than hanging out with that first GM dude.
He’s probably nervous since working for GM doesn’t have the best job security.
M9A1 MAN Hahaha good one! I was thinking along those lines but you nailed it
I hope that most of the cameras have washers
LOL LOL if had Dif lockers won’t Have that problem :( climbing the dock rocks
Sadly, it HAS a rear locker, but the front differential refused to split the power. Garbage 4x4 system if you ask me.
No it’s doesn’t have it , has Only if One tire spins a half revolutionary one revolution then engages automatic you lose the momentum like that:(
@@mgp-bct7723 the electronic locking rear differential is so smooth and quick that you really dont lose a whole lot of steam. However, a manually locking rear diff would have been nice, it is not necessary. Hear we can see the rear axle locks, but front passenger tire wedged against a rock, all three other tires were on smooth rock allowing the tires to spin.
They should put the rear one on the front and the manual lockers on the back :) will be much nicer
@@mountainmanjim6366 if it was so smooth and quick why did it not engage. You're out of the middle of nowhere and going up something like that I don't want to have to put in Reverse to get over the top we should be able to engage that lock ourselves and leave it there.
Alright Roman finally got a thumbs up from me on a GM review!
Vern Anderson agreed
It has to get momentum in the first obstacle. 😂😂😂
I was at a dealer and there is no skids plates only on the engine and it to tin :( that’s all :(
They need to put the interior from 2021 Yukon :) and electronic lockers to :(
I'm starting to have a better understanding of what a rear-locker does and is for (the G80 for the GMC's) but I'd like it if TFL could do a video to better explain how the front locker works when the AT4 is in "auto".... specifically, is there a G80 under the front axle? if not, what's making the "auto" work for those two wheels?
EDIT: Also, if you go into 4Hi or 4Lo, how does the G80 stay in continuous "locked" mode? I'd like to understand how this works too....
VM were a Chrysler partner long before the FCA relationship. I was driving an European built Grand Cherokee with a 3.1 Diesel VM back in 2001.
They also made 4pot diesels for early range rover classics.
D Gilbert And for the Cherokee, I think it was a 2.5
The Jeep liberty had a diesel here in the states too
Was that Cherokee Canadian? I thought only the liberty had a diesel 4cyl in the entire US jeep lineup. And wasn't the diesel VM unit originally a MB clone? I was looking for diesels years ago and really wanted a Cherokee diesel, but only found Canadian vehicles for sale
Rancho....? 1985 called, they want their shocks back
Nic Restrepo what shocks should I get to replace my ranches with ?
Brian Mattingly anything from Bilstein, Fox or Old Man Emu will be a good improvement. Within those brands there are everything from entry level (already better than anything rancho) to more committed off road builds. Personally I think the DSC fox shocks are the best of both worlds. Nice smooth adjustable city driving and a separate adjustable off road driving. But you’ll pay more of course.
Nic Restrepo I have a 15 Duramax , it doesn’t get off road a lot. Just around the farm I’ll never need the high dollar fox shocks but I would like to replace my ranchos soon they are getting rusty . Ive been looking at Bilsteins . Thank you for your time and answering my question!
@@ozzy7763 Bilsteins
A G80 IS NOT a rear diff lock.
Change my mind.
Works just as well in my tahoe
Locks up great on my 2500HD as well
Explain how it's not a locking differential? Its certainly not an open diff and locks the wheels together once 100rpm wheel speed difference is met, below 20mph.
@@hogrod when rock climbing and you lose traction and then have to start spinning your other wheel to 20mph for the "locker" to engage a lot of things can happen you would definitely lose your forward momentum. Tfl has a few videos of it struggling. Where the actual rear diff lock didn't even sweat.
Wow. Finally a video with a truck and mud!
Good looking machine
"It's an AT4, but a special AT4 ...". Yes, it rode in on the short yellow car carrier 🤣😅😛😜😋😆😝
You should try a Chevy Trail Boss and a GMC Sierra off-road comparison.
I'm already liking this truck!!
Jonathan Swinford HOW ITS SOOO SHIT 🤮🤮🤮
@@mustangdbest220 coming from a ford guy
bmackins94 because Ford is the number one best Ever
Only problem I have is where are the front an rear lockers the g80 is junk
@@mustangdbest220 just because you're number one dosen't mean you're the best
@ 9:44 this is why we're here guys. Awesome vid
Isn’t that the guy from the Trail Boss video you did when it came out ? Playing in the mud video
Good morning TFLT it’s 5am where I’m at and I just pulled an all-nighter
Love the fact they went w the l6 that’s awesome lovin this truck
Hello Expert, how about 2020 3500 dually denali is ok to put in 4high while am moving ? thank you
any idea on when you will get to do the new super duty tremor package?
I'm waiting on information on the same Truck, 7.3 4.30 axles.
it doesnt look like the front has any brake actuate traction control
Watching these trucks makes me consider the inline 6 Duramax more and more 🙂
Well curious to see a *0-60 & mpg run on the 3L Duramax* . I like it personally so far definitely the #AT4 package & so does everyone else in town its popular along with the Denali. They have Silverados running around but mostly LT, RST, Custom, TrailBoss & below not many High country, LTZs. Unlike the Gladiator which i have only seen 1 literally to date on the road & 1 other at a shop. 19 newgen Rams are kinda semi-rare see one here & there but quite a few 19 classics which is what i like as well.
Oh my, a carbon fiber box... and people were complaining about the cost to repair the fords with their aluminum panels. I bet that box is astronomically expensive!!
I LOVE the matte gunmetal color grill and foglights. I have a 2019 Sierra SLT and wonder if I can order the new color grill and swap it out with the chrome that is on the 2019 SLT?
Still happy I bought the 2020 Chevy Trailboss LT with the 6.2L.
too bad the interior doesn't match the exterior.
Outside of the front camera, i think my 13 FX4 F150 has pretty much every off road thing this truck has. The Ford has a selectable rear locker and doesn't need a 2 inch lift to clear the factory 32" tires. 33's Fit a stock F150.
And 35's fit a stock rubicon Wrangler....whats your point
Yeah but you only get half the Life
artiaga1547 bazinga!!!
@@artiaga1547I came from a gm family. I don't think we ever owned a Ford. My first one. I owned 3 GMC pickups prior to buying my Ford. I used to be a GMC guy but a man's wallet can only take so much of a beating before you try something else. This Ford hasn't been perfect but compared to the GM stuff I had, it's had a small fraction of the issues. Had it almost 7 years and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
Almost went back when the 16 Chevys came out because they were sexy... But damn the interiors suuuuuucked compared to my Ford. It felt like going to a midsize from my F150 and soooooo cheap feeling. Too bad, that was the best looking truck they've made in a decade plus. GM used to set the bar for design IMO but they've fallen off a cliff this century in that department.
Well when you're bringing your F150 back for another recall! Just remember somebody tried to warn you first!!!😲😱
Raptor wouldn’t have had an issue for similar price
Why don’t they throw front diff lockers in the AT4 and trail boss vehicles I think it would be a game changer.
Because the front diffs are garbage in ifs trucks and tend to break....coming from a guy who owns a few.
Yup, a locker would pop that aluminum diff like a grape. It’s possible to make a real steel/Iron ifs (Tacoma/H3) but modern day GMC sells mall crawlers to the uninformed.
Why the right front tire now moving. Smh 0:35.
A GMC is just a Chevy that's had all of the bolts tightened.
I want a real tfl test without a manufacturer set up off road course please ☺️.
How nervous do you think they got at 9:00 when that brick bounced right towards the back window lol!!
Can't wait for that Vid from Colorado!
The locker isn't it the same thing that comes in the regular Chevy /gmc truck?
"The camera revolution has made off roading so much less stressful." Are you serious right now??? These trucks are designed for people who want to look cool but dont want to do cool things. Go to moab in the off-season and look what real cool trucks are, 80s Toyotas and 90s jeeps with very little electronic babysitters built in!
Good slow motion video of the mud pit
Just bout a new At4 3.0 diesel. The coolant temperature reaches up to 230 when driving down a road at 40mph but when cruising at 70 it drops back down to 210. Is that normal? Took it to the dealer they said it was but I’ve never seen a truck go past 210. Any help I would appreciated. Also my emission light came on, on the second week of owing the vehicle it’s been at the shop twice in two weeks. It’s a head ache. Kind of regretting getting this truck or this engine.
A Pallet of concrete is just north of 3000lbs. How long would this truck last hauling that amount of weight in the bed back and forth?
NICE OVERALL TRUCK 👍
I just saw Redline Reviews do this exact same course. But I'll watch this video anyway...
I’m curios to where gm sells these test trucks?
I love the KTM's at the 8:20 mark!! The best!
Man.. I’m mad at GMC. I had a bad experience with my GMC 2018 Canyon duramax. Seeing this makes it hard not to stay mad. That truck looks and sounds amazing
What kinda probs? I have the worst with chevy tahoe as well
I had diesel exhaust problems. Radio problems. Power steering problems. Check engine light was on a lot. Derated warning symbol. I bought the truck on December 31, 2018. In March I had enough. The truck was at the dealership most of the time. It had to go
Hopefully it doesn’t have the same def tank placement as the HD trucks because that thing hangs lower than the diff. Huge liability off road
TK BRAYER That has been addressed already. DEF fill is now located next to fuel cap behind fuel door and tank is mounted above the frame rails. I agree though the previous DEF tank and fill location was straight up ignorant.
Rock sliders and crawl control must have
2:39 they still have that same old clunky shifter action... Professional grade all the way 😂
And I hope it they don't get rid of it...
It's missing a front locker. 🙁
It's also missing a selectable rear locker. They continue on with that half ass G80.
Bob Roggio , and rear to the G80 are junk
How is it at towing?
So where is THIS diesel made? Italy or Thailand??
Alfred Dregger * of globally sourced parts. Don’t forget that important disclaimer! So it could be all coming from Thailand or some other armpit and assembled here.
Almost lost that back window!
Nice. Also the same color as my friends Jeep....MUD.
Thanks for the awesome off road, daily, work truck and Chevy/GMC content video, I love my 2010 Sierra Crew Cab SLT (I’ve had for 6+ years, 90 of 160k miles) and look forward to buying a NEW AT4 1500 or 2500 in a couple years but still not sure on which. I’m thinking Duramax 2500; but for as little as I tow my little show truck bagged S10, I’m still thinking 2500 at the moment. I’ll see what the 2021/2022 has and then I will know. I just hope Chevy/GMC keeps the 1500 Diesel for my options later on. Thanks TFL truck, love the videos. All you guys are awesome and I hope the more words I type help you out, lol. Thanks again. Love the Hummer H2, Land Rover, Toureg stuff and more, too. So many cool trucks and SUV’s all the time, I need a bigger garage and driveway. You guys are the best.
You're going to be better off with the Duramax 2500HD
Were you able to get any impression of the revised suspension tuning for 2020 on the 1500?
10:26 is the definition of “clear as mud” lol
Where is the dual exhaust on the disel
Leave it to Roman to get stuck in a manufacturer's event. Out of the 4 clips I saw he's the only one. It was a gnarly obstacle but the others made it with the same truck. Maybe wet tires?
He asked "will it figure it out", at that price point, yes the GMC should have figured it out. I do believe Toyota's crawl control would've figured it out with open diffs to boot.
@@joshmclain2152 sure it would have, and then the engine would have blown because the sump wouldnt be pulling oil in at that angle.
With all due respect, I love all these Toyota fanboys making assumptions. Meanwhile the ZR2 already put the Tacoma out to pasture. Full size trucks are not comparable to a Tacoma. A Tacoma is much lighter. Even despite that Im not sure it would have done any better. As stated by others here, Roman was the only person with an issue. I like Roman, but hes like my wife. He seems to have issues no one else has.
I think he does it on purpose tfl hate Chevy they like Dodge!!
It would be nice to see a Torsen style front limited slip like the Raptor has. Even the Tremor is getting a limited slip in the front as it should. I also like that GM hasn't went to the huge screen display on the dash. The Dodge has that and it just looks stupid to me. If I'm not going to watch movies on it I only want the screen big enough to do the job and not look like an I-Pad got stuck to the center stack.
GM rep: Ok stop here, now shift into 4hi
Roman: This truck has 4hi? How do you do that?
GM rep: I've watched your channel, we know you love 4lo but 4hi is only one small turn of the dial, not the full turn
Roman: Oh! That's what that is?
Lol 😅
Put this engine in the ZR2!
Waiting to see the MPG's on the way back to colorado.
