I actually want them to ask that here, because it bothers me a tiny bit that every time the cashier gives me the shopping receipt and credit card receipt and the credit card itself together, and I have to separate, credit card goes into wallet then receipts go into a dry shopping bag (one that doesn't have cold/frozen stuff). If they can do that for me instead, I'll be 10% less tense when standing in the shopping line :D

I work as a Walmart cashier and the worst thing is you keep gotta have the EXACT conversation with EVERYONE on the line. Average person takes 4-5 minutes (depends on how much groceries/products we gotta bag for them), and I usually work for 8 hour shift so yeah. Let's just say I drink 9 bottles of water a day :P.

Very accurate, but sadly a requirement. It's kind of our own fault because we have to ask a lot of these kinds of questions before we can even bag some of this stuff. It's why I hate bagging in paper, because there's so many more questions that need to be asked.

XD Working at a grocery store, I can say that this is accurate. Some of the questions you are required to ask where I work are as follows:
"Would you like Plastic or Paper?"
"Do you want it all in one?" (if there isn't very much to bag"
"Do you need your milk in a bag?"
"Do you want your meat separate/in plastic?"
"Do you want your potatoes in a bag?"
"Do you want this bag of apples/bananas in another bag?" (We sell them already in miniature bags)
"Your eggs are cracked, do you want me to get you ones that aren't broken?"
"Do you want your Shatto milk in a cold-sac?"
"Do you want your card in a Hallmark bag?"
"Is it okay if I put your lightbulbs in this paper bag so they don't break?"

That magazine Jeremy was buying...
Omg, I work at a movie theater, and this is pretty close to exactly what happens! I can't imagine being a cashier at a grocery store. When I work in the box office, I have to ask if they have a card, I have to ask if they want to donate, I have to ask if they would like to APPLY for a card if they don't have one, in addition to all their movie ticket stuff. And when they get their ticket, there's three other tickets that are just advertisements. Ugh. When I do concessions, we ask if they have their card, and if not they can apply for one in the box office, we have to upsell them, we have to try to get them to buy a candy in addition to their popcorn, we have to ask them what size for everything, we have to ask if they want an additional box... And in box and concessions, we have to ask if they want a receipt. It's insane. I wish we didn't have so many questions to try to make them buy more, then maybe the lines at the theater will go by faster... Because yeah, people complain all the time about the lines taking too long. I go as fast as I can. But we're required to ask so much stuff, other guests get mad.
