Since its a new ship, Bada saab has a peacefull life and can pursue his painting habit, agar purana ship hota to line diagram aur drawings he le kar bhagte rehte. :)

So true! I have sailed for 24 yrs with my husband in various types of ships, my husband is no more. He was a chief engineer. I miss the sunsets at sea!

If you want to continue ship job for long time, deck side is better,
But if you want to shift to shore job later on, then engine side is best. I knew a chief engineer who later on became a General Manager in Mahindra. A chief engineer due to his wide technical knowledge has plenty of opportunities where that knowledge and experience is required, and it is not just limited to shipping field.
I sailed upto 2nd Engineer and joined Shore job. Presently I am working as Director in Pakistan's Maritime Affairs Ministry. Ship service gave me lot of knowledge, confidence and experience.
