The Kurdish peshmerga withdrew from Shingal (Sinjar) in 2014 without a fight and caused a Yezidi tragedy and genocide. The Peshmerga were controlling Shingal and were supposed to protect it.
There was a small peshmerga force deployed in şingal atm, the city was controlled by the iraqi army and they all ran away, leaving the under armed peshmergas there, and they were faced with high end iraqi weapons left by the iraqi army and now at the hands of isis, outnumbered and outgunned, they had no choice but to retreat, and they liberated the city shortly after, it was a disaster but inevitable
