I remember when this song first came out. I was at Walmart with my girlfriend and a couple friends of ours. We were in the electronics section, and I was drawn to the sound of one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard. The display was playing a snippet of Good Enough. It was my first experience with Sarah McLachlan's music. I just kept on listening to it over and over again. It touched my soul somehow and I knew I had to have that album. It's amazing how music can trigger memories from so far in the past.

the person singing the song is singing to the person that thinks they are not good enough to be loved. it is saying let me show you you ARE good enough to be treated good and be loved. it could also apply to people who think they are not because of past abuses and the self abuse many put themselves through. it is about saying this person will be there for them when no one else might be

So exactly correct. Very insightful and inspired of you to see and then speak of what you have seen. The real tragedy is when the one who is not good enough has no one to turn to, no one there to share the burden. The spiral downward then continues. Hold out a hand to the ones you love, people. It does no harm and may possibly save a life.

I remember hearing this in the mid 90s. I was around 17-18. I had been entrenched in hip hop and rnb since the late 80s but started listening to a little more to alternate rock, club, etc around 94-94ish. I had really liked Possession the year before also. This song really hits emotionally, I interpret it as someone trying to help someone else look at themselves differently. I’ve never seen the video until now-it’s really hits home for me because I’m currently separated from my wife. We have horrific fights-verbally. I’ve definitely made some mistakes in our relationship but she will literally go off on me, calling me pretty rough things all in front of our kids. They are lovely, beautiful kids but I can also see some issues that are developing with them that I truly believe are related to our separation. I really worry about them, my son is autistic and daughter is very emotional sensitive. I get very sad thinking that my kids were too young too remember when her and I got along and won’t be able to experience seeing a loving example of a relationship between their parents.I often question how our lives all got to this point. At least things like music like this allows us to process life in a more emotionally healthier way. Great music Sarah-thanks

I've been a fan of Sarah McLachlan for nearly 30 years - in Southeast Michigan we can get Canadian radio clearly, and Into the Fire just caught my attention right away. I know most of her music by heart from the first few notes.
All that being said, I can't get through the first 30 seconds of Good Enough without tearing up. This song wrecks me.

I was handed a note by a volunteer at the hospital out of a jar of folded ones that said you are always enough. • @Bonkeyclunk

It's difficult to express emotion with words. The more real the emotion, the more difficult it becomes. There have been so many, that in the face of overwhelming emotion, lacked the words to release the emotion into the universe and finally allow the light to heal inside. Sarah has a gift to provide music and song to aid in that healing exchange and at times, is as vital as life itself, whether she realizes it or not. Sometimes it's the song, sometimes it is one line in a song, but I personally know many people that credit Sarah as being a midwife to healing from the most scarring wounds with her music. Words will always fall short when true emotion is the goal... but thank you Sarah. You've saved many from themselves because you found a way to make people feel the things they cannot say.

My cousin had an eating disorder and almost died ... now I do (tho mine is more minor but still no joke and harmful) so I understand you. I hope you find peace. This hits so hard for me though due mostly to my emotionally and mentally abusive parent. This parent didn't mean to but just couldn't handle a family my parents divorced when I was going into middle school. I thought it was my fault at first. My parents got 50/50 custody. Good parent who initiated divorce was only escape... every other week I was parenting 3 other kids, handling school, doing some of the parents work and house work. They are getting mental help now for Bipolar, ADHD, Panic disorder and Anxiety most I got from them but am handling better then I think he is. Therapists and good parent agree but I never felt like enough to them. Still it is hard but thank you Sarah.

A lot of people have the wrong perspective about abusive parents. When you have an abusive parent they use their power to make their spouse feel like they aren't good enough. This causes them to believe it after so long and it isn't easy for them to leave. If you know someone that is a victim, tell them you are there for them, and only once. Give them the option to get help. But don't cause them to stop talking to you because they will defend their partner until they see the truth.

Reminds me of the pain too. But listen to the words, "don't tell me I wan't good enough". People who don't appreciate people who have been there for somebody doesn't deserve them. I have moved on and realize that she didn't deserve what I gave to her.

Yes. her voice, her high lilting voice in everything she does, sort of reminiscent of Anita Baker, but very distinctively special in "Will You Remember," which I fell in love with, and then the musical motif was continued in "Angel," and "Sweet Surrender," though that's more of a k.d laing offering.

To me, it's about a close friend who's always been there to try to help their friend through a rough relationship and rough life. I've never felt good enough in any situation but thank God for my best friend Tracy for always being there & making sure that I know that I am.

I love so much her music has so many powerful messages. She’s one of those unique souls that sees and feels the deeper meaning and purpose of everything. I also love that she was adopted by such loving parents that supported her from day one. Her parents must be so proud and so inspired by such an amazing daughter. I know I would!

She "wants to Try to BE there." She is Trying and that says a lot. Even more so when the two try together you can tell there is lots of Love I'm sure whoever she is singing about has made her happy in the past and wants to continue to do so but doesn't know how to go about it. In Fact I believe even after the song was written they still made many great memories

I used to think external beauty meant worth, value. Perspective is so powerful. It's inner substance Morals, Values, principal and having depth, not shallow. There is so much that doesn't meet the eye💯True Beauty is how you carry yourself, the way you Love, kindness, staying true to your Soul 💜💯If only the outside and inside matched, it can be so deceiving.

Sarah is the closest thing I've felt to a Sisre. She has rescued my Heart from endless despair countless times. All I ask is that she one day sets my Heart ablaze and incinerates all the earthly dross that I've accumulated over times indefinite. "Even if we're just dancing in the dark".
